Cheners is a legend

I've not been too happy with the stick my mate's been getting. He is 100% committed to the cause and this club would be a poorer place without him on and off the pitch. He has a better pass completion rate than me surely, unless you're counting how many times I find someone outside of the ground! Come on he;s been here a good few years and has helped us to some of the greatest moments in your (and mine)supporting lives. Yes we can all have a go but not give personal abuse. We're not allowed to discourage at school otherwise it will lead to failiure perhaps the same rule of thumb should apply here as well. A community of teachers all encouraging each other, canvey island or fantasy island? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" />

It's been going on for a while, and as I said in the other thread, often unfairly.

Hasn't been his best season so far, but that can be said of the defense as a whole. Injuries and other changes have probably contributed, and I was sad to see Dave Theobald go, although he's probably enjoying the dentist's chair as I type.

I can't recall any personal abuse on this forum aimed at any of the players including Chenners.

Fans will always be the biggest critics of a players performance - good and bad - but it should never be personal.

However, this forum offers a greater opportunity for people to offer up their reasoning than the terrace on a Saturday afternoon.

I suppose it shows how strong a character players like Chenners and others are to turn up, train and give 100% week in, week out with critics waiting in the wings........ I know I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Not my favourite player but anyone puts on a yellow shirts should get 100% support.

I have never heard anyone dig him out, if I did I would invite them to pop off down the road to Hornchurch or ricay.

Yeah, i dont understand it either. Yeah, he fu*ks up occasionly but so do other players too sometimes... hey Wardy! lol.

But seriously, people should lay off him. Remember, he scored the winning goal in our FA Trophy win and he has been in every side that has gone and done something great in our FA Cup runs and Ryman League triumph!

I agree with everything everyone has said on this thread including those that have said negative things about players.

Sometimes as fans we get frustrated and shout things out that does not mean we are against a player or the team it just means we have shouted something out.

I did not hear what was said to Chenners but if he made a mistake I defend a fans right to say something.

I will give you an example:-

I am a real fan of Mr Boylan, (quality and I am confused as to why he is not playing at a higher level).

Top player and a top man, with a top family.

(I think it is great to see his mum dad, missus and kid at a game. You can always see them and it is brilliant).

Twice in the first half that big fat slob of a number five came from behind Lee and took the ball off his boot and left him standing, Lee walked away and looked ordinary (I know he is not ordinary).

I shouted out, for [****!!****] sake Boylan you are better than that go and get it back.

Minton lost the ball a couple of times, I shouted for [****!!****] sake don't be lazy go and get it back.

I hope both players ignored me and got on with their game.

My point is I get excited, frustrated and scream at everyone. I also pay my money every week and I do not dislike anyone in a yellow shirt.

No player gets away with a bad game and no player should ever get an insult but if I do not think they are good enough, or committed enough I defend my right to say it, even during a game.

I think there is nobody beyond criticism, except the 100% club who should be allowed into the changing room after every game as they have earned the right to say their piece.

There's an award isn't there for best supporters of the season. I'm sure there is. If we keep it up with the drumming and singing, we will win it for sure!

And even if there isn't an award, fu*k it, lets keep on doing it anyway so everyone else knows that we are the best supporters in this league!

Come on you Yellows!

Thanks and interesting you have taken the time to start a thread on this Steve. This should tell us on the terraces alone what the feeling is in the dressing room at the mo for you to do this.

I'm hoping that for Chenners and others sake that the message reaches them that at least the ones who are shouting this abuse and not helping are the minority. I just can't think what good this abuse does to a player.

All we ask for is players 100% commitment, and we get it. We should leave them alone to concentrate on the game, and that's where we can do our bit and help by encouraging. Not the other that brings confidence and concentration levels down.

mob i take it you don't stand in the main terrace as there is 2 or 3 people who spend every game having a go about Chenners, but they wait till he's defending a corner or free kick and then ridicule him. he could be playing a blinder but it doesn't matter to them. yesterday they did it on the first corner of the game, and chenners looked up, surely you want him concentrating on defending not listening to mindless morons. i actually think Chenners has been v good this season.

I don't believe in slagging a player off during the game. If a player does something stupid, he's gonna realise it. He doesn't need 600 people shouting it at him.

However, as soon as the final whistle blows then here on the forum is definately the place to put your comments. I can't remember any critiscm on here of a personal nature, but I am aware that it goes on during the match.

Chenery certainly wouldn't be in my starting XI, but if he's playing I'll support him just like I would do any other player. Hopefully he's experienced enough to take these comments from the terraces on the chin and keep giving it his all, which is all you can ask of him once he has been selected. Any abuse of a personal nature I'm sure will be stamped out sooner rather than later.

I always stand directly behind the goal and I heard something only once about ayear ago,I slagged them off on here and told them to shut up at the time.

I always stand high up at the back though.

Chenners has done OK this season. He wouldn't necessarily start in my first team but he does not deserve the abuse he has got in some quarters. He isn't the most cultured of footballers but he does his job well and so far deserves to be in the starting 11.

Defenders are there to defend first not worry how good they look on the ball, if we had no-nonsense defenders like Tamworth we wouldn`t be having this thread.

For me Sterling has been our best defender (player) so far this season with Chenery close behind.

Think the criticism he has been getting is unfair as lately he has played extremely well at right back IMHO. He wouldn’t necessarily be in my starting eleven but while there has been a few injuries at the back he has stepped in and done a good job.

As others have mentioned, it doesn’t matter how well the team or an individual is doing, certain people seem to have tinted glasses and still abuse the individual players. Seem to remember Duffers having the same problem with some people standing next to the seating area week in week out. When he Scored that 35+ yarder against Northwich he went running over to them given them the Shoosssshhhhhh sign. Classic.
