I think we played well, but not as well as we should have.

They got a few lucky breaks and made them count

The Ref was not jut poor, he was abysmal. Both teams looked like they were never going to score but yet again, we conceded in the final few minutes to lose a game which we never at any stage looked like not getting a point from. Can't really think of any real goalscoring chances that Canvey made and a draw would have been a fair result to be honest.

Highlight of the afternoon for me was the "reception" reserved for the useless excuse that passed for a Linesman (sorry, "Referee's Assistant")from the Yellow Army in the last 15 minutes or so of the match, not forgetting of course either some highly entertaining ball juggling skills from Gulliver at half time!!!

the linesman and ref were cr@p for both sides, but we did miss out on one of the most blatant penalties. the moment we took Keeling off we looked poor. and for the last 20 minutes they completely dominated the game. i dont recall us having a single shot on target and they had a few. im not saying we disserved to lose but we certainly didnt disserve to win and in the last 20 minutes they edged it, i dont think we can complain

A draw would have been a fair result, neither team put any decent moves together mainly because of good defending by both sides. We did have at least 1 shot on target from Ibe but it was a game of very few chances.

I thought the ref was ok (although i did hear it should have been a penalty)and we`ve certainly seen at lot worse at Park Lane.

Hallet had only been on the pitch a few minutes and had beat thier defender to the ball by the buy-line, thier defender dived in to knock the ball out but instead swept Hallets legs from underhim. It was a blatant penalty but the ref somehow didnt give it and waved away any appeals .

I feel if we had got the pen and scored it we would of won the game as halifax offerd nothing and didnt look like scoring

blatant tackle from behind on Hallett in the box, the ball went out and the ref gave a goal kick.

i was down at the away end dead inline with the incident (so was the linesman) and not a thing was given. even the Halifax fans who had been moaning at the linesman all game (he had made some terrible decisions) said that he had screwed that decision up.

Ref was poor but I've seen a lot worse. Thought overall a draw was about right. Both defences were on top and it was a very poor game. We played our hearts out but it wasn't quite enough.

Think that all the points you make above are true there Yellow. At least the players were up for it and really (as you say) played their hearts out for the team on Saturday.

Although Halifax were a reasonable side, they were not Real Madrid and to be honest I feel that they did not really deserve to come away with all 3 points. Once their number 23 came on and started to run at our defence near the end, I just had a feeling that we were going to lose and yet again it happened - we conceded a goal in the last 5 minutes to lose the game.

This is becoming a worrying habit as it is happening far too frequently. Losing games at the death and throwing away points that are almost in the bag, unless we can rectify the problem, could well cost the club very dearly at the end of the season I feel in such a tight league.

Is it that the lack of fitness of not having full time training catches up with the players? Are we incapable tactically of closing out a game? Does the players concentration waver towards the end or simply is the defence not good enough? What do other posters think is the reason we regularly seem to concede important goals in the closing stages of matches?

Lack of stamina. Against Cambridge we seemed dead on our feet at times in the second half. If we are to play a chasing, harrowing game, denying the opposition space then we need players with good fitness and stamina levels to do this and at the mo, I don't think we are quite there yet.

Wasn't there also one where instead of awarding a penalty he booked Keeling for Diving? Now if you are a decent ref like Uriah Rennie then you get these penalty decisions spot one, especially for handballs

As for lack of stamina, try going to see Audley Harrison fight!

I would imagine it's a combination of things - we just seem to recieve the last minute goals more than we dish them out.

There have been a number of games where we have worked very hard and looked dead on our feet but currently the lads can only do so much training.

I'm probably one of those, rightly or wrongly, that would like to see a sub chucked on a bit quicker - sometimes for tactical reasons and other times as a straight swap because individuals pick up knocks or are knackered.

In the closing stages of a game it's really a team effort and I wouldn't lay blame solely at the feet of our defence, concerntration or otherwise. If we fail to remain strong in midfield or we start giving the ball away easily on the wings or up front then opposition teams will always have the opportunity to deal us a sucker punch.

The main point is how tight this league has become this season. Grays are riding high partly on the back of clawing results in the last 10 minutes of a game. Daggers have been slipping down the league slightly whilst Aldershot have been quietly getting on with it and are now above us with a game in hand.

Rather than look at what's below us it's nice to look above and think if we did capture those extra few points we would be challenging for a play off place.
