Southport Going Full-Time

Seems crazy to me

SOUTHPORT are set to announce a switch to full-time football.

The Haig Avenue club, currently bottom of the Nationwide Conference after six consecutive league defeats, is one of only three part-time outfits in non-league’s top flight.

But an announcement concerning a change of status for the Sandgrounders is due to be made tomorrow.

big gamble. dont think it always works out.players will have to give up jobs,or(most likely)club will have to bring in new players.

who is paying for it? wouldnt have thought it was from the gate money.

just shows how competitive this league is now.

how long before it becomes part of the league structure?

division 3 anyone?

I know this could sound strange!!

Is there not something sexy about being a "pub team" (not full time), that beats those full time teams and offers all of our lower league colleagues the hope that one day they maybe able to do what we are doing now.

I have to say I really enjoyed the conversation I had at Exeter with a couple of their young supporters.

I was trying to explain to them:-

Keeling, Crowds of 600, Potter, Kingy, Yellow, Wardy, Greggors, Boylan, Duffy, Nans Coffee, the drums, the sea wall, the flags, Canvey actually being an Island and the fastest developing club in the Europe.

Then taking 3 points from them.

PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!

i think it better beating "bigger" teams than us, when we play smaller teams and win its not always the same unless we win 5,6+
