I wasn't there today, but listened to the commentary, and Well done Clarke and Hallet! Come on CANVEY! We can do it

Was an absolutely amazing performance, couldn't seem to do much wrong really. Hallett was truly amazing, and seriously looks like he could be a problem in very soon. His pace and strength really shone today and showed what a promising young talent he's looking to be.

Minton had one of his best games he had in a long time, was just like watching him back in the Ryman days, running round defenders like they're non-existent.

Truly outstanding performance from the whole team, never looked outclassed and took control of the game from the first goal.

Attendance was apparently 1445, looked quite a bit more to me personally, but hey, when doesn't it?

Well done to all the players for todays performance, hope to see more like that this season!

Very well done boys! Everyone will look at these results and be stunned (Heard a surprised tone when the score was announced on Soccer Saturday a little while ago) but WE all know that this was CIFC v Grays - they may play well this year but we know what they are really like.

Onwards and upwards now! Hopefully, if other fixtures go our way, we will finally get into that top-half of the table.

Here's something I posted over on another messageboard nearly two months back. Why didn't I put a bet on?! I knew it was coming!

Got back into the UK this morning and firstly what a result at The Rec - absolutley gutted I wasn't there. Spoke to a mate who's a Grays fan and he felt we really dominated and rated Hallett quite highly.

Great team performance today although it didn't start brightly with Mcghee left covering three Grays players. Great work rate by the players this afternoon and we certainly matched them in what was probably quite a tight game.

Wonder what Stimmo is saying to Jamie Stuart after getting himself sent off for having a pop at one of his own team!

Hallett proved a real thorn and they just didn't seem to get to grips with his efforts and work rate - very unlucky when his shot deflected off the cross bar and caused Jamie Stuart to have a go at his own player.

I did start to get worried when Grays started to lump the ball forward and play direct in the last 20 or so minutes. We didn't seem comfortable with what was going on and the substitution bringing Ibe on didn't seem to help matters.

Fantastic results and if there is only one club we do the double over this season then I'm glad its Grays - YES! What a way to start the new year.........

Great performance from the lads today we fully deserved to win. Gave away a poor goal but once we equalized we dominated the game. A bizarre sending off for gGays with Jamie Stuart throwing a punch at another of their players(shades of Dyer & Bowyer).

Hallett is getting better and better and could well soon be attracting the attention of a few League sides.

So nice to do their double over Grays. Their fans sick chant about Jeff King sums up their mentality and makes the six points even sweeter.

Can't wait until the game on Saturday against Accrington it will be the ultimate test.

A good win for Canvey, but not that convincing.

Hallett's goal was superb. Clarke's goal was good too. The best I've seen him play all season. Unlucky Hallett hit the bar, but quite funny seeing Jamie Stuart punch John Nutter.

Grays' goal came appalling defending. It's been said a million times before - Put them in hard and low and they can end up in the back of the net from anybody, which was the case today. Once they scored I thought we were in for a tonking! Would've made the other Grays game a total fluke.

Potter collected some important balls in the second half to keep the score down after yet more suspect defending. I can't believe they missed that chance that went over the bar early in the second half, but we took advantage of the extra man.

Kezie Ibe's performance today was the laziest I have seen from a Canvey player this season. If he continues to play like that again, he can be the first out the door.

Yellow Army was quality today, full voice and entertaining lyrics.

Last twenty minutes we started to tire, this seems to be the norm now, so we really need to make the best of our substitutions.

All in all, it's three more points, no more, no less, and they will count towards the end of the season. However unless we address some specific tactical issues, I can't see us doing the same again against Accrington next Saturday. In fact, if we get full points from our next four league games, I'll be more than happy!

Attendance could've been better as well with Southend playing away. 1445 isn't bad, with roughly the 445 coming from Grays. Seems people were more interested in the West Ham/Chelsea match than the Grays/Canvey return fixture.

Poor Stimmo. If I remember rightly, his Grays team have never beaten Canvey since he's been in charge!

Really impressed with today's performance and with Jason in particular. It just shows that we do have the quality of players to do a good job at this level, such a shame that we aren't always up for it in the way we were today.

No weak performances today, everybody contributed with perhaps the exception of Kezie. He came on with fresh legs but didn't seem to be involved.

Well done Yellow Army, you did us proud and the players obviously responded. Even Stimmo gave you a wave in admiration.

Brilliant performance today. I feared the worst when Kightly scored but we seemed to close ranks and grow stronger after that.

One man who deserves credit was Ben Sedgemore. The guy has been an unsung hero all season but has held the midfield together all season and deserves so much more credit than he currently is receiving.

Mario and Dom were outstanding today and what can you say about Jason that has not been already said. The potential the lad has is frightening.!!

Agree about Sedgemore, definately an early potential for player of the season along with Sterling.

Mario was impressive as well, although he seemed to be one of those that tired the most towards the end. I suppose with more playing time that will clear up. I could see him jeering up the Yellow Army today.

We're back up to 12th now, and not that it matters what with the state of our ground at the minute, but had we won at Cambridge as well, not only would we have taken all 9 points over Christmas, but after today's results, also jumped up 5 places in the league to 9th to be in contention for a LDV spot.

Think that's a ridiculous statement to be honest! Your willing to let a quality player go just because you deem one of his performances to be lazy? Thank f**k your not the manager, cos some of Ibe's performances this year have been top draw.

Think thats spot on to be honest, sorry Matt but todays performance i thought by Ibe was ok, didnt do nothing special but tried hard. He is our 2nd or 3rd top goal scorer so to say he he is lazy is abit harsh i feel as evry time i see him he works very hard.

As for the game, when they scored the 1st i thought the worst but we showed great character to come back and win, Jason won man of the match (he played exceptinaly well) but i feel the whole team deserve a pat on the back for the peformance they put in today, so much much passion and aggression. You know you got a team rattled when they start punching the [****!!****] out of each other. .

SEDGEMORE FOR ENGLAND, the bloke has been superb the last couple of weeks and deserves the praise.

Lazy is a harsh statement for Ibe I'll openly concede that.

I've seen him perform much better than he did today, and being under the cosh from Grays for the last 20 minutes I found in rather frustrating that he didn't show the magic I've seen of him previously as he could've almost certainly had a goal himself.

I agree whole heartedly with Mr.Dover, Ibe done what was required of him you may be critisising him for the lack of closing down he done today but by not closing down the keeper was not rushed into a quick ball out thus wasting more time.

I felt Gregory's first touch was critical it was important for him to get over the ball greatly improving his chances to give the scum player a serious injury(proper dog and duck challenge).

I have been saying Sedgemore is a legend for a while now the bloke never gives less than 110%.

I hear there were 2 or 3 players who gave their all today who shouldn`t have even been on the bench, thankfully they played and with the rest of the team they did us proud.

I think Gregors should've come into the game about 5-10 minutes earlier than he did. I know the substitution itself wasted the final minute of added on time, (4 minutes?!) but he was standing under the dug out all kitted up and by replacing Hallett it would've given Ibe a chance to attack harder with Gregor's holding the ball up for him.
