Somehow, I feel we have been here before, Chalky my point was not that McFly are any good but that Oasis are crap, they were quite relevant t when first on scene playing to their peers.

McFly are the same relevant to their peers albeit their peers are 13/14 girls just on the verge of putting away Barbie and picking up a copy of Smash Hits.

Oasis are now older than their target audience who they are not relevant to anymore.

The older and more descerning music fan recognises that Oasis have not progressed in quality as their audience have matured in taste.

Therefore they are "McFlyish" in that sense. In contrast super groups/artist re-invent themselves or improve and therefore gain a new fanbase or keep their existing fanbase fresh.

Oasis have not re-invented themselves and have not improved therefore they are now irrelevant, McFly on the other hand are improving (agreed they are limited)and still relevant to their teenybopper audience and therefore McFly are a more credible force in british music.

Great thread this... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Just can't work out how a posting regarding Justin Edinburgh leaving Billericay has turned into a debate about McFly's music & their merit(?) to the British music industry, lol...

Actually I have been sober for over a week, I did not consider my thoughts deep though.

I just cant stand pretentious pricks like the Gallaghers, and feel sorry for those lonely souls who follow them.

Also it just does not feel right that somebody who has the insight and intelligence to follow Canvey could also be thick enough to be taken in by such eegits.

I think you are spot on MOB, there are a number of bands that re-invent themselves and are not afraid to try different things.

Yellow- I was not claiming that FGTH were a joke band but saying people dont tend to look at them in a serious musical light, a fact they even admit themselves, personally think they are a landmark band.

Oasis are now churning out crap like "she is love" and "let there be love" and songs like "little by little", nothing special and very ordinary.

I have been to about 5 Oasis concerts and after seeing them at City of Manchester Stadium have decided that enoughs enough, they are turning into mediocre

I saw Oasis a few years back at Finsbury Park when Heathen Chemistry came out. They were quality that day, but I'm not sure if that was them being on top form or the atmosphere getting me carried away.

Whatever, I really enjoyed it and as long as people can enjoy them then they have a future. So they may not write the best music these days, that isn't the highest in the list of criteria to be successful. I reckon that the last album was steady enough to consider them to be around for a little while longer.

What night did you go? I went on the Friday night and got absolutely drenched in a torrential rainstorm. To be honest although Oasis were very good the atmosphere was horrible. Very menacing and too many Manc hoolies looking for trouble. Vowed never to see Oasis in this country again.

Charlatans were on the bill as well and were superb, as were BRMC.

Being an old [****!!****] myself, I would argue with anybody that the 1960's/early 70's was the greatest era for music.

Stones, Floyd, Led Zep, Beatles, Hendrix, Beach Boys, Doors, Janis Joplin etc.

Sad that Janis Joplin is almost forgotten by music fans now as what a great bluesy voice she had. Has anybody ever listened to any of her music? She is my favourite female singer of all time.
