Harlow v Enfield Town

Recommended Posts

Southport, you're discussing it, I'm arguing about it! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

No argument about the importance of branding and sponsorship, but I woud say there is a limit though. The FA Cup is the FA Cup, NOT the Acme Fizzy Drink Cup. If Coca-Cola offered us a million pounds if we changed our name to Coca-Cola FC and played in their corporate red shirts, I would vote that we declined the money.

Money is nice, integrity is priceless.

Well said The Invisible Man. My other team play at KitKat Crescent. It will always be Bootham Crescent to me though. We did get £100k for changing the name and it's not permenant. Didn't Huddersfield Town do the same when they changed from the McCalpine?

I can accept the ground naming as this enabled us, the fans to buy back our stadium and home. I would however have drawn a line at us changing our name like the welsh club who became Total Network Solutions.

PS..The only people who was confused about why we played in yellow, was a fan who wasn't at the game.

I was surprised Lovely Stuff. 'Confussion' does not come into it! I have only missed 4 games this season and we've played in the white shirts or Steph's red/black shirts in all the games I've been to.

You mentioned earlier that you didn't like the red and black because of reminders of Hayes and Yeading. Now you seem to be confused LS - Hayes play in red and white shirts. Yeading on the other hand hardly have a long history with Enfield football. EFC played them for the first time in 1990 and there haven't been many meeting since!

As long as we're winning I'll be happy regardless of the colour.

See you on Tuesday!

EFC v Yeading

12 x Isthmian
1 x FAC
2 x MSC

I am not sure but maybe yesterday was practical, trying to get all the kits washed and dried over the holiday period, and people having to work, then the yellow kit was available, dunno...

Oh yeah 15 shirts, socks & shorts being washed & dried in 6 days that would be expecting a bit much I suppose! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" />

Down here we've got automatic washing nachines now you know, so we dont have to go down to the river & wash them out on a stone then take them home & put them through a mangle! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue2.gif" alt="" />

Yes, Huddersfield (my adopted northern club) changed the stadium name from McAlpine to the Galpharm. Not something I agree with - but the club were in very dire straits (not the band) not long ago and I suppose had little choice. One other little factor - all the brown "tourist" roadside signs had to be changed! I know that a brown sign cost 300 quid a few years ago (you have to pay for them if you want some. How about one or two pointing to Goldsdown Road, home of ETFC???).

I must admit I hate ground names like the Reebok, the JJB and so on. They sound pretty daft now, what on earth will they sound like in a few years time? Or will the name be changed every few years?

I believe TNS used to be Llantsantfraidd. I nearly went to see them (under that name) in a pre-season friendly v. Shrewsbury one Tuesday in 1999 when I was staying on a campsite outside the village. The campsite owner/farmer (Mr Williams, predictably) was club secretary - and barman in the local. I didn't bother in the end, went to the pub instead I think. Nice part of the world though.

Don't know what that's got to do with anything......

You might regret that Steph, as long as you keep winning ?

What makes you think you'll win on Tue's ?

PBTFC are on the up now just watch us go.

Beware ETFC !!!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/argue.gif" alt="" />

Good for you for adopting a northern club TIM. Well done for finding a club that needs the extra income generated from footy fans like you. I know a lot of southerners have 'adopted' Manchester United as their northern team for years!

Enfield Town are my adopted southern club so there's proof of karma in action! All it needs now is a Huddersfield Town fan to adopt York City to complete the triangle.

Up the Terriers, Towners and YCFC!

Yes,Hayes colours are Red/white/black.I've atttached the main picture from their website, not sure if Hayes are in Red or yellow. But it shows that our kit is far from unique and IS reminisent of many other teams.

Red and black shirts will remind you of Yeading because it is such an unusual design. If Town wore red and black hoops it would probably remind you of QPR away!

The only reason yellow kits don't remind you of 'other' clubs is that there are so many clubs in this unimaginative change strip it is hard to pinpoint it to a specific club. The yellow team in the attached picture you posted is is Hayes! It was taken at Yeading on Monday 2nd January. Hayes home shirts have been red and white since the 80s. Hayes won the game 2-3.

We've played at least five clubs at Goldsdown Road this season who have worn an all yellow kit. Every division of every level of football is littered with clubs playing in the standard 'off the peg'/'away'/change kit.

As for changing the kit I think it's a great idea to change every couple of years in order to bring in more money. You must admit, it was great seeing Bryan Hammett answering his critics by scoring his hat trick at GWR in the classic red and black shirt?

Alright, keep your hair on Steph.

That still only adds up to two strips. One white, one, err, not white. If the argument is that the second strip sponsor would not get his name advertised at every away game (i.e. only when we played another team in white) and thus doesn't get his moneysworth, it doesn't quite follow, as he won't get his advert when we play a team that clashes with the away strip - like yesterday. Who's name was on the yellow kit?

The preferred second (away) kit could be white as at home, but with the second sponsor's name on it, as would the third, non-white kit. So, the home team sponsor's name gets bandied about at all home games, away team sponsor's at all away games, and ETFC get to play in the sacred white as often as possible. Same as now but with two whites and a non-white, instead of one white and two non-whites...

Of course with a striped shirt (or any two-colour shirt) for a change strip, there is always the chance that either colours could clash....

I'll get my coat........... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I must ask, what colour is the coat and do you have an alternative if it ever clashs with someone else? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Because the sponsor of our home strip wouldn't be happy!
