Enfield suffered their first defeat in 2006 at a very cold Rothwell this afternoon.
Today's team 1 Steve wright 2 Mark Whittington 3 Michael Spencer 4 Nick Turner 5 Kevin Kilroy 6 Paul Oshin 7 Leon Green 8 Curtis Johnson 9 Marlon Stuart 10 Danny Gabriel 11 Sherwin Stanley,Subs 12 Lee Allinson 14 Warren Leader 15 Gbenga Sonugu 16 Grant Osborn GK paul Daley. Still no wesley Borghys who is nearing full fitness.

A dangerous situation was cleared up by kevin kilroy in the opening minutes and as the ball was cleared downfield sherwin stanley put Danny Gabriel away and his shot deflected off martin flannigan and over Tom smith only for the ball to rattle the rothwell bar, on 9 mins rothwell went ahead when Justin Jenkins theatrically fell over kevin kilroy's outstreched leg and the referee awarded a penalty . Steve Towers converted 1-0. A half chance for E's soon after for Marlon Stuart shooting straight at Tom smith. Michael spencer was then booked for a foul on Michael Tolton.Rothwell almost made it two when a near miss by Rob Maddox very too close for comfort. Rothwells stuart spencer was then booked for a foul on Marlon Stuart. On 28 mins Danny Gabriel was put clear only for him to be tugged back It looked inside the area but amazingly a free kick was awarded OUTSIDE the area !!!. Kilroy's free kick then appeared to strike an outstretched hand only for the referee to wave play on !!! Then a crunching tackle by Andy Brown bourght danny gabriel crashing to the deck and yet NO BOOKING !!! Curtis Johnson was then booked for a foul on michael Boyle-chong (hardly a surprise there!!!)On 38 mins a good stop by steve wright from steve Towers and then Boyle-chong shot wide when he should have scored.Danny gabriel was then taken down by stuart spencer NO Action taken by the referee !!!. As the first half closed mark whittington was adjudged to have committed a foul and walked away from the ref and was booked for WALKING AWAY!!!. As the players left the field mark was then sent off for Foul & Abusive language when involved with other players. The 2nd half saw Kilroy clear two situations and a dipping 25yarder by Boyle-chong was very well tipped over the bar by wright. From the resulting corner Boyle-chong blazed well over when the ball found its way out to him. Another good save by wright this time from Towers Then on 54 mins another foul on Gabriel just outside the box. Paul Oshin's free kick then crashed against the Rothwell cross bar .68 mins Grant osborn replaced marlon stuart. Michael Tolton then got clear down the right wing and lobbed over the advancing steve wright only for leon green to clear off the line. Then at the other end Kevin Kilroys centre was knocked down to nick turner and his shot was then cleared off the line and the rebound was blocked by a mass of bodies. Nick Turner then booked for dissent. Rothwell made the game safe when Tolmans corner was headed in by Justin Jenkins at the far post 2-0 85 mins. E's almost pulled a goal back straight away with michael spencers cross being fumbled by Smith and paul Rice headed off the line .This was the last significant action. So a disappointing day ,On reflection a Very debatable penalty ,A handful of odd decisions and Marks sending off was the difference today. Att 119

Its true whats been said about the ref's up in those parts. Hopefully we wont have to go back there again. Another joke pen given against us as was the same at stamford. But at least we got a deserved pasting at corby.

Up there its 'local refs for local people'.

You only have to look at how good the home records are of teams like Corby/stamford/Rothwell ,compared to their poor away results.

Tell you what they fell over very easy in or around our box ,Elsewhere on the park they stayed on their feet alright.
