Players that may stay

Staying-up

Recommended Posts

We have to accept that 90% of the players will leave to further their careers. The saddest thing for me will be Jason Hallett playing for someone else. He has great potential which will now be developed elsewhere.

There are really only three players who may stay the first being Wardy. I am sure he doesn't want to leave Canvey and if we are in Ryman1 then he may just be tempted to finish his playing career with Canvey. Hopefully he can be offered a player-coaching role.

The only other two I can think of are Neil Gregory and Ben Chennery. Both have been at Canvey a long time and are coming to the end of their playing careers and won't be able to find another Conference club.

Until we know what League we will be in next season then noone can committ to anything but it would be good to at least have a couple of long term players playing for us next season.

I think the sooner we except that none of the current first team players will be around next season the better. As much as some may care about the club can you really see them playing after having their wages slashed, how would you (and your family) feel about taking a big wage cut?

I dont think any will stay, they are all good players and in my opinion all are quality. I think a lot of players, like Hallet get good write ups from relatives on the web and feel very upset when quality players like Dolan have had their potential ruined by J King. Also other players on the bench are not match fit due to his poor management, so it may be a good thing that we get a new manager. Lets start from fresh and get a new one from outside the club, who has no biases! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/afro.gif" alt="" />

do you not think that greggs and wardy are at an age where the furthering of their playing careers is not a priority

It may not be a priority but perhaps it would be something they wouldn't mind continuing with, especially if we do drop a few levels. Look at Britnell, he scored for the Reserves yesterday, been with Canvey for years!

Wardy said he thought he had at least one more season in him at Conference level and Gregory has proved that when called for he can still be an important squad player.

Both could easily find clubs at higher level (and closer to home) than we will be next season.

Ben won't stay. He can still do a job at Conference level.
