I think the attitude from some people on this forum (and others) over the last week or so towards Jeff King has been a joke, all the bitterness is in my eyes uncalled for.

He ran the club as he wanted because it was his to run! It seems the club will be ours to run in the future, let`s hope we can fullfill the utopian dream which some people think will happen.

are you calling me a joke i was saying that so that if i was to leave a club i would leave it in safe hands & i believe that my attitude on this forum or towards Jeff king is not a joke as i have posted in recent weeks that you survive & hope you stay as high as possible

No Jay i was talking about our own fans, i don`t expect you to know the way our club has been run and while i don`t agree with some of your posts i think they are well intended.

I do not think the fella deciding to keep his hand in his pocket is anybodies concern but his own.

But surely a football club is a community asset, even if that community (i.e. the fans, not necessarily the whole Island) is small.

I agree that we have had some great times courtesy of Jeff and understand he may feel that a move is needed to further his career in football management.

The criticism that has been raised has, in general, neither been aimed at Jeff on a personal level, nor at his managerial ability in the pre-conference days, but rather how the club has not embraced the fans and how recent events have been handled.

Funding a football club goes beyond putting your hand in your pocket on a day to day basis, and encompasses financial and succession planning to ensure that no one person is critical to the survival of the club. However, we are by no means the first club who find themselves lacking the governance structures to ensure this, and will not be the last.

Let's all just try to keep some objectivity to balance the passion and aim to maintain ourselves at an appropriate level in the pyramid.

thanks for your support jay.
many canvey fans would agree with you.jeff has said that he has been thinking about this since last summer, why were we only told 3 weeks before the end of term?makes it very difficult to ensure the future of the club at a reasonable level.
as for what jeff has done for the club in the past,i guess most of us are grateful for all the good times.and now, well it has always been jeffs right to use his time and his money as he wishes-wherever that may be.

This does not help!

WHAT DO WE KNOW?

We know ---- Jeff has said he is pulling "his companies money".

We know ---- Jeff loves CIFC, he has said he will not walk away and leave it stranded.

The rest is all speculation.

"Jeff is saying he wants the best for the club but personally i feel he is just looking after himself..He has made no effort or given us supporters time to protect the club at Conference / Conference south level.. Why is this?"

How do you know this, I have read every publication and listened to every interview, I did not here him say this.

How do you know he is not going to announce that he has decided to put no more of his companies money in and he is leaving, but as a parting gift he is leaving Park Lane to the Supporters Trust, tied all the best players to two year contracts and has secured a massive sponsor to carry things forward for the next 10 years!!

YOU DO NOT KNOW SO PLEASE USE YOUR BRAIN, BE POSITIVE AND BE HAPPY FOR WHAT WE HAVE HAD OUT OF JEFF SO FAR.

Once things become clear you may find a more suitable place for your opinion.

Absolutely right there MOB.

Best that people wait till facts are 100% clear. People making statements criticising Kingy stating "he is only looking after himself" are very uncalled for and unfair.

Jeff King owes Canvey nothing and the club and supporters owe him everything for the success he has brought to it and them. This should not be forgotten whatever way future events may turn out.

Look. I agree with the fact that we should look at the past 15 years and thank him and i personally do. I also think he has done a lot for this club and that we would never have done as well as we have done if it were not for him.

But it is the leaving it till the last month of the season to tell us he would not bankroll us anymore that has not sat well with me.

You can say all the things above a million times over but it still remains that he has decided to leave the club he apparantly loves in a situation where we MAY have to drop down leagues that he worked hard to get us to climb. A club he apparantly loves that he knows could not survive financially without him. A club he apparantly loves that acheived the probability once of achieving League football. (A far off possibility i know, but not an impossibility a couple of years ago)

Now it seems a bit weird that if all these things were accomplished and so much work was put in that he decides the club he apparantly loves will have to fend on its own with hardly time to sort it out.

This says to me that he is either cutting his losses, getting a better offer or is fed up with the place. Does this sound like the kind of things that a man who apparantly loves the club would do if he did actually love the club? And if you dont agree then you can not say that all this sits well with you if your opinion is that he does in fact love the club.

Now i say these words with complete disregard of whether or not he goes to Chelmsford. I really couldn't give a toss.

Whatever way you look at this, this is not the way to treat a club whatever level you compete in and we compete in a pretty good one.

Whatever way you look at it, he should have done this sooner or delayed it until we had proper time to sort out ourselves out financially without the panic.

Thats what i would do if i had the power and said that i (definately) loved the club and thats the difference.

Chalky he has not done anything at all yet when, he makes his intentions clear then we can all talk about it, I for one thing he will be straight with us when the time is right.

he has said that he will no longer finance the club(fair enough).

surely you can see what some people feel? that the supporters have been given barely enough time to ensure the future of the club.

he hasn’t done for the rest of the season when he has been thinking about leaving, what makes you think he will be now. i hope he will

can you imagine what the press and footballing fans would make if Roman Abramovich announced he was going to leave Chelsea only a few weeks before the end of the season, taking the manager and half the squad with him to another club. There would be uproar

there are a few things that have been done terribly in all of this and for that Jeff owes the fans an apology as much as we owe him thanks for what he has done in the past

Really surprised of some of the comments on here.

The guy’s come and had a drink with a number of you before the last game and watched the match with many of you on the terraces. Are those the actions of someone who does not give a toss anymore and wants the club to fail?

I would see it as an acknowledgement to the yellow army that he has taken the trouble to do this.

If he hadn’t taken the club over all those years ago then none of these debates would even exist as Canvey would still be an ESL side and there wouldn’t even be the fan base that there is now. Crikey, most of you wouldn’t even be aware there was a football team for Canvey!

A lot has been made about the timing of all this, can someone tell me when would have been the best time?

I am pleased that we finished higher in the league but for me the season finished as soon as i first heard about Jeff King leaving and i`m sure i`m not alone, if he had announced his departure earlier in the season i think our crowds would have been even lower from then on.

The time must have come during the season where he had to decide if he was going to offer our players new contracts or finish bankrolling the club and leave. The fact he gave 2 players long term contracts makes me think that Jeff`s mind was not totally made up until late in the season.

Certainly things could have been handled better but it could also have been a lot worse, over the next week or 2 i think things will become a lot clearer.

I think that from reading most of the posts here, that

1) we need to stop looking in to the past acheivements, they have been merited on numerous occassions now and to be quite honest its boring me.

2) We need to look into the future and plan ahead for Canvey football team to progress as one of the best teams around, with or without Jeffs help.

3) If jeff had felt like this at the begninning of the season, then he should of left when we were on a high, when we got promoted to the conference, we could of landed more than one backer to finance the team.

and at the end of the day Jeff might land us in the lurch and we are left to pick up the pieces which is probably what most fans are agreived about

I would be amazed if there has been interest from any potential backer let alone one prepared to match the money the King family have put in over the last couple of seasons.

Perhaps when the rumours were going around rival boardrooms just before Christmas?

Someone obviously couldn't keep Jeff's plans to themselves otherwise we as fans would/should be the first to know before other Club Officials.

Where? When? Who?

if we had a whole season to find a backer then maybe we could have found one that could have kept us in the conference. also now even if a major backer steps in, half of our squad seem to have already agreed to drop down a couple of levels and go to chelmsford, all of which was agreed before anyone has had a chance to see if we can save the club at the level we are at.

yes Jeff has done amazing things for this club, but he has also left the club with no other option but to drop down a few leagues. if a longer term notice was given then who knows maybe we could have found a new sponsor or sponsors and stayed in the conference with the squad we have (wouldnt have been has handy for Jeff and Chelmsford though would it) for this i feel Jeff has let the club down
