Message for AFF and/or Supporters Club Committee

I know that a lot of work has been done in the background but I really do feel that it important that a supporters meeting is arranged to discuss the current situation.
From speaking to various people, I think that I have a pretty good understanding of what is going on but would really like to know exactly where we stand at present. I am aware that many other supporters are probably even more in the dark and would appreciate more information.
The information that has been coming out seems to have been 'cagey' and quite non-specific and I am not sure if this is because there is an element of confidentiality in the ongoing discussions.
In reading some of the messages from supporters, there seems to be a perception of inactivity but I know that this is not the case. The tone of some of the messages is also p*****g me off in a big way and that is why it is important that we can fully discuss the current position as soon as possible.
Can we please have a supporters meeting urgently? I think that this will need to be advertised in the local press so are we now too late to arrange something for next week?

Hi Mr Sparrow.
Like most of my good ideas, someone else thought of it first.
I hear that Chairman of The Supporters Club chap is trying to arrange a meeting for next week to discuss/debate the current situation.

The first problem is the venue, although I believe that they are checking the availability of suitable options. The second problem is timing as the venue must be confirmed by lunchtime today to make this week's newspapers.
Between you and me [personal view, not to be passed on], I suspect the third problem will be that, as things stand, many supporters will leave the meeting as frustrated as when they arrived. There is no quick fix solution and the answer to the obvious questions is "Don't know".

Another meeting can be arranged when there is news, no doubt.
Still. It will be good to talk. I've missed some of you this last month.
Oh, by the way. I have a great story [poignant, bathos, high drama, this one has it all] concerning that chap what writes the match reports for The Observer. I'll try to get his permission to reveal it here.

Hi AFF
Good news about the meeting, look forward to the Supporters Club announcement later today!
Regarding the article in the Daily Telegraph yesterday about the bloke from Berkhamsted. What's that all about then? Says he'll be meeting Harding to look at the books!
It will be a pretty short meeting then!

Here is said article (I've cut out the boring bits!)
Non-League: St Albans look to Jennings

By Simon Wigmore (Filed: 28/01/2002)

DANNY JENNINGS, chairman of Ryman Division Two club Berkhamsted Town, is negotiating on behalf of a new consortium to rescue St Albans City from the receivers.
Jennings said: "We know there's a limited schedule and we are doing everything we can to reach an agreement. I am trying to arrange a meeting this week to see the club's books."
League secretary Nick Robinson said: "We hope these talks succeed. However, St Albans' match with Billericay on Saturday will not go ahead. The club are still suspended."
League neighbours Boreham Wood have offered to host a benefit game at Meadow Park in February with gate receipts going to the "Save Our Saints" fund.
Interesting, huh?

Nice to be back. Lots of arguing I see on the board!
Regarding the supporters meeting, I think it is important that the club involves everyone. This is not just about the highflyers, but the mere fans as well. I dont fully know what has been going on behind the scenes but what I do know is that if we carry on like this, being in the dark about so many things, we will lose the club in about 20 days.
Hands up who wants that?!
We were told about a new consortium that had been interested in buying the club but nothing has come of it. Or has it? We just dont know.
I believe what we need to do is capture all the ideas that have been tossed around recently and put them together. This can be avhieved as long as there are not too many in charge and proper details are laid out. Come on guys lets save the club we all love. Why should we lose it after all these years?!

Having only just clocked your message Rob, what exactly does a 'benefit game' constitute? Is this a city game with them or do they mean a friendly with a bigger club?
I think that is really good of them if it is true. It just seems from where we are sitting, that its other clubs that are doing more for us than ourselves. I have been assured this is not the case, but someone prove it to us.

Don't ask me, Choco, I only copied it from the Torygraph.
I didn't even know there was a 'Save our Saints' fund. Perhaps the money might be used for paying off some of the overdue wages of the managers and players.

[ 30 January 2002: This message was edited by: Rob the Saint ]
