Chelmsford

I was working late in Chelmsford so I decided to pop in and listen to their Q & A session.

This is not intended as a dig at them but, what a boring meeting!!!!!!

Jeff and his gang will get on just fine there, the place has no atmosphere, the supporters have no personality and nobody would dare challenge Jeff and his crowd in anyway.

Lovely facilities but they cant fill them, the bar is not used and the local community do not seem to support the social club.

They have come up with a really creative idea to drag the local community into the social club Bingo!

One guy suggested he had met his wife at a singles club and maybe they could have a singles night.

150 people there tonight, great cooking facilities only somebody forgot to tell "the chef" so there was no food.

They are only allowed to have the ground on certain days because the athletics club has priority and therefore are only allowed three pre season friendlies.

They wasted an opportunity, they had a new manager and their whole board infront of them and there was not one moment of controversy, dissent or even a slightly awkward question.

I learnt a lot from chatting to some of the supporters much of which it is best not post here.

They have only one player under contract, Jeff will be bringing his "whole backroom team and a number of players".

He has a players budget as Manager, he and his first team coach can get more "if they generate the income".

There will be no seat on the board or control over anything other than first team.

They have ambitions of developing their youth side and "expect players to come through" (that will be interesting).

I wish them luck, seemed a nice enough bunch, give me Park Lane and Yellow Army any day, our facilities are nowhere near as good, but at least we have atmosphere.

The council own the ground and will not even allow a barbecue in the summer!!!

They will attempt to become the new Grays, investing in Youth, improving the setup and increasing the fanbase.

Except, (with no offence to Glenn Pennyfather & Brian Horne) I feel Grays have a much better Management Team.

An experiment I'm sure Jeff will have much fun concocting.

No Phil! not really I think on the whole people see things as positive, and there seems to be a lack of passion about the place.

The biggest issues of discussion on a night when a new management team were put in place was about the lack of support for the club house.

I got the feeling I was somewhere very middle class and the majority of supporters were driving in from places like Springfield. Certainly not from the local housing estates.

One guy near me never shut up about employing a commercial manager to organise the raffles.

I cant see Jeff's rough diamond type charactor not putting a few noses out of joint, but I do not think they will challenge him to much.

Despite everything he has in the past been a good servant to Canvey for that I wish him well.

what did you expect the meeting to be?

Jeff king and his posse have been to a few City matches and it was the passion of the fans that helped to make his decision.

Just ask Craig Edwards and the current team what they think of the fans.

We have confidence in our board and these meetings are not slanging matches.

First I honestly was not having a dig, just sharing my views with my fellow supporters.

Second from reading the posts on your forum I expected at least the odd difficult question, not a slanging match.

If I were supporting CCFC I personally would have a question about some of the loyal casualties in this process.

Your new manager is hardly going to say you are all boring and lacking passion, is he that would be a good start.

Craig Edwards could hardly say the same as he would look really clever hanging around until sacked.

Just a few quotes from your forum

"Either that or the meeting was so heated that it's still going on....or it was so good that everyone is still at MP drinking the bar dry

ask tonight at the meeting. why do you think it is a disgrace

they said all along it was cos of money nothing else.

of course he's going to put money in... they just don't want to tell everyone... it's a farce.

There is no advantage to CCFC if he is coming without putting cash in.

Maybe he personally is not but his companies could be.

Whatever I am sure the "openness" will bring that out.

somebody is lying I think . bloody disgrace"

WHERE WERE ALL THESE PEOPLE TONIGHT???

This is a forum for Canvey supporters, I am sharing my views and opinions with them, I would say I got one or two snippets before the meting and was expecting something slightly more lively.

Quote from Peter Foster, (who I believe is a Club Official) on the Chelmsford City forum regarding tonight's meeting. Please note the wording of the fifth point:

"1. Jeff's and Glen's appointments confirmed - such appointments relating soley to the football side of the club's activities.

2. Around 5 Canvey players will be joining us.

3. The new management team will look at our existing squad and decide which players will be offered terms for next season.

4. The club will set Jeff a budget for wages for the start of next season which will show a slight increase on this season.

5. Any sponsorship or promotion money which Jeff is able to generate, either from his own companies or from others, will be directly made available to Jeff to increase the wages budget."

That's where the money will come from - Some things, never change!

Lets get this straight Peter Foster is NOT an official of Chelmsford City Football Club.

Jeff King is not a Board member of Chelmsford City.

The question was asked if Jeff King fails as a manager he WILL be sacked.

The meeting was not controversial in any way the supporters have every faith in the Board of Directors, they are in it for the love of football and not profit.

MOB you can confirm that the Directors openly stated that they have very little experience of running the commercial side of the club. Having singles night, Bingo etc were suggestions with the former very unlikly to happen IMO.

The Clubhouse does seriously need to be filled on non matchdays, you ought to take into account that on December 23rd 2005, we still had not had the ground signed off by the league to actually play football on January 2nd 2006.

I'm sure given time the commercial side will improve, we also have another function room upstairs that can accomodate 120 people. The potential for our club in endless, success hopefully will bread success.

MOB I failed to mention that when Trevor Wright (ex Chairman of Chelmsford City) spoke he was full of praise for our current board decisions.

Its a pity you did not talk to him without him Chelmsford City would not be here today when we lost our New Writtle Steet ground, he stood up and formed what we have today.

You as a club are now going through a similar situation, and I personally wish ALL of you at Canvey the very best of luck in this new journey. You the dedicated supporters will look back on recent events and that you have been part of the clubs successful future. The journey will be bumpy, enjoy the ride its YOUR CLUB you can and will do it.

Figures ranging from between £700 and £1000 have been mentioned as the cost per week to get the sub lease, but nothing official has been agreed. One thing that has been made clear however is that Jeff will not be making a profit out of us.

So what do you propose we do, pay Concord to share with them and have no home of our own? If Jeff King didn`t own the lease we would only be paying someone else the same amount or maybe more.

If we had got the lease directly from the council, we would have a lot of other issues to deal with..

I for one am much happier dealing with Jeff rather than directly through the council, as he will be more sympathetic to our cause.

Of course your right Ronin - but a lot of people will feel agrieved that Jeff is still involved and we are "giving" him money. Suspicion will always be around although it will subside in due course once the team starts playing.

It's a bit like going home and finding someone bouncing up and down on yer misus and having to say "sorry am I interupting?" closing the door behind you and having to put up with it <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> it just cuts to the bone a little bit with some people.

Out of total interest, Are you all going to follow canvey if you go to the ESL?

surely your fan base will decrease and it will be harder to pay the rent to JK?

you should form a new side/fans team...like AFC wimbledon, FC united....and hope that brings in some locals and stops them going to watch SUFC.
