African Football

Recommended Posts

After all the hype at the last few world cups about African teams and how one was going to win it soon they have all failed miserabley this time round. Is it time to give a place back to Europe for the World Cup finals and tell Africa to come back when it has sorted itself out. Quarter Finals are 2 South Americans and 6 European teams.

No certainly think they add to the competition, technically good just a little naive, which will only get better the more tournaments they play in. Same with Australia, poised to go through from group and their keeper is throwing balls to oppo centre forward, their taking quick free kicks and smashing it against their team mate 2 yards in front, what with that and Graham Poll that game was one of the most entertaining of the tournament. Ghana yesterday matched Brazil for most of the game but needed a bit of class up top. Not sure that an African team will win it anytime soon, but they certainly make the tournament better.

So you would say Ghana qualifying from there group is a failure? if you look who was in it!

Fair point oners. But they won't kick on from here and become world class.

good to watch, i like african sides, but very very naive defensively

Which is what makes them more entertaining to watch. You look at the difference between the Ghana game and the Swiss v Ukraine game. One neither wanted to lose and made for the worst game of the tournament. The other was a team basically saying we know your going to score so we will try and score more, ok they failed but gave it a good shot and produced a good game of football.

Think there is definately something a miss in African Football, they have seemingly done well at Youth Level (Under 17,19,21) but struggle to make such an impact further up. Give them time.

I think they do well at that level because they seem to develop quicker and have more power at an earlier age than most European Countries,Its when they mature into men and have to relate to tactics and awareness that they let themselves down.
That said they have made huge strides in recent years but still look a bit unorganised at times.
