Has Jeff lost the plot?

Jeff King stated on essex radio after the game that Canvey were excellent, christ all mighty what game was he watching? I would agree for the first half hour it was the Canvey of old but after that it was as Merv said in his match report it was back to hump it and lump it. The other question is what do they see in Matt Jones that the majority of supporters don't,once again he was totally ineffective as he has been in all the other games he has played. Also why is Harrison prefered to Potter.Team selection has been criticised many times on this forum recently and i feel it went a long way to contribute to yesterdays poor performance. It is worrying when it seems the managers perception of some of the players is so out of touch with the majority of the fans

I must admit, early a few weeks ago I asked myself the same question about Jonah. However, I do believe that he has improved a great deal, and would keep him in the team until Spencer Knight is FULLY fit. I think he has finally started running at players, supplies good quality crosses, and I think he is being given a hard time at the moment.

Also, I don't think that Ashley is being prefered to Danny, but when you have two good goalies it's important to keep them both happy. I agree that Danny is the better keeper, but should he pick up an injury, having someone like Ash as number 2 is a real bonus.

My match is off this morning so here’s to spending some time with thoughts on yesterday.

Great to watch for the first twenty minutes or so, and it looked like a case of how many we would win by, then what happened. A fluky deflected goal for Hayes and things became equal. The second for them followed when a tackle did not occur well outside the box and we got punished. Was Ash just too far off his line as well? From then on, the match took on the form of nothing much being created by both sides. Certainly, the Hayes team were fairly workmanlike, but were not a creative bunch and it was a case of could Canvey get started again and not let the game pass them by. As mentioned in the excellent match report again, a sense of urgency returned to Canvey for the last ten minutes and things started to happen. Too little too late though.

Just why did things change so much after such a good start as that kind of performance for most of a match would have seen them through? Obviously the heads go down when you conceed a goal but its up to yourselves to get the initiative back again and work even harder. I don’t think Hayes had much to offer and we took our foot off the gas after their first goal that let them into the match. Just my own observations now on performances:-

1) Sorry but Jones is just not up to it. Did put in some good crosses in those first twenty minutes but at this level, you’d expect that. Lost out on 50/50’s and was helped out by Minton more than he should of been. From his area of the pitch where than ran at us and scored the goal. How long until Duffy is back as I’m sure he was putting crosses over to the other tracksuited lads just before the players came out. Would of liked to have seen Duffy involved as well around their penalty area in those first twenty minutes. May of encamped them for the whole game in there.

2) Just wonder why Bennett could not of played instead of Brennan.

3) Minton played well but thought he held onto the ball, as usual, longer than he should of done on occasions, like Miller used to.

4) Cowan. Nothing to add from other mentions. Good player. Would die his hair dark though as you can see him coming from a mile off.

5) Boylan just about deserved man of the match, as there were a few others in there, but never gave up, as you would hope!

6) Thought that Brayley was greedy when he came on. Yes he is a goalscorer but we had them in trouble as we got the crosses in again. His long range efforts did not worry their keeper and defence while our other play was having good effect and we may have sneaked another one.

7) Have we upset the referee’s. It’s like they are turning up with some kind of attitude problem. Has someone been putting it about that they need to try upset the players and fans with ludicrous decisions. Felt that the ref played too bigger part in the result today!

I've just been on the 'Ayes' discussion board and they seem to have nothing better to do than whinge and slag us off as usual. There main focuses - Admission prices & our ground.

Give it a rest you t****rs!!!

Just had it confirmed from the FA. Although the referee went down in the programme as Mr Murfitt it was, in fact, John Crawshaw. Don't know why, but he had done a deal with the FA and had been refereeing quite a few of our games recently, wearing a slightly different disguise each time.

This year? when did the selected best" eleven perform consistantly enough to hammer any side (Slough??) (Braintree??)

On a very bumpy poor pitch with an almost eerie atmosphere in the ground and surely the coldest night game this year the team subs included performed with (under the conditions) skill, passion and application whistle to whistle

SORRY CHAPS COULD NOT RESIST MOVING COMMENT FROM GAME AGAINST CHESHUNT INTO THIS DEBATE AND POINT TO THE WHISTLE TO WHISTLE NOTE

Ok, so, you lot think Matt Jones is crap. But are highly supported to Jeff Minton, and mixed opinions about Bertie Brayley? Well, I think Matt Jones is a good player, (think what you want, im stating my opinion). Bertie Brayley likes to try his luck whenever he gets the opportunity. Jeff Minton just likes to attemptively run around 4 odd players, when Lee is standing clearly unmarked in the box, shouting his head off. This really pissed me off, seein as we could of got an extra goal or 2 out of it. Im glad Cobby's gone, got worse from day 1. But I think Matt Jones should stay in the team. Jeff should be out, give crow or someone decent the opportuinity to play. This is obviously just my opinion, i dont think it should be blamed on individuals like Matt Jones. Oh well...

Steady on Bill.

Im on your side in half of your feelings and not sure where you feel I slagged off individuals

Im saying there are times when players prove their worth under awful circumstance then get ignored

My true feelings are that our team flashes in and out from magic to tragic and we have missed out on a mixture in the team balance that gives us a 90 min team

Perhaps we need one or two honest runners, good passers of the ball who keep us going in the quite periods.

I think the ideal are a couple of what is known as "players players"

Im with you Bill.

Bill - I do agree, you are entitled to your opinion, just like the rest of us but don't say we should not blame it on individuals when you have done exactly that whilst giving your comments about Jeff Minton!!

I will say though, that you are likely to be in the minority regarding your views of Matt Jones.

Bill-As I started this thread and stated my opinion of Matt Jones I must say that I respect your opinion and everyone elses on this forum.Lets carry on using it with healthy debate, just recently we have had some good discussions on here with all the regulars taking part, lets carry on respecting each others comments and having the right to express freely how we feel even if it is about individual players. As I have said before, we pay our 9 quid and have a right to air our views whether its criticism or praise

Well, i am sorry for what i said before, i was just stating my opinion, and got a bit annoyed, and came across wrong. Sorry. Pabird, glad to see your on my side, not many people often agree with me :-p. Vic - I probably am wrong, but the view i see on the game, this is my honest opinion. Are you truthfully saying you dont think Minton refuses to pass when he sees an opportunity for himself? Basil-Don, I guess my apologies mainly go to you, as you obviously you saw the worst side of it. Ill try and calm myself down in the future :-P.

Bill.

P.S, Does anyone know why i cant stay logged into these forums for more than 5 minutes before i have to log back in? It does get really annoying..

Bill if 20 people watch a game there are twenty wrong forecasts (approx) before the game and twenty 100% opinions after the game on what should happen

The only consistency I have shown is in feeling that the loss of Tilly and Simmo has been severe in our losing the continuity in style that we had

All the signed on squad have talent at this level but the talent has to be blended to gain the maximum for a team effort across a full 90 minutes

It is only my own opinion but I feel we need to nurture easy and early ball and player movement until in the opposition last third and then our trick players should be encouraged to "have a go" at the party tricks

Not in the middle third

Selection is rarely picking your best eleven individual players but more a case of picking the eleven that give you "how" you wish the team to perform consistently
