Nice positive report in tonights Echo with a few comments from John Batch which show his appreciation of the players and their respect for him.

He said "If Jeff had stayed and Canvey had still been a Conference side i would have continued as reserve manager, but i would have moved on a lot of the players who were with me in the second team last term.

They were to good for that. Now many of them have signed contracts with me and all i`m asking is to give me one season. I think many of them are capable of bigger things, but i want them to see what we can do together this term"

I think it showed Saturday that we have a TEAM who want to play for their manager & club and long may that continue

Fair play to Matt Jones who said

"At the start i had a number of players looking to join us in action and the fact we were out-fought disappoints me. It was Canvey`s first match and they wanted it more than us. Good luck to them."

John Batch sounds like a genuine bloke who has earnt quite a lot of respect from the reserve players over the seasons.

It sounds as though he just wants some of that respect and commitment back and it looks as though he may be getting that.

If the manager has respect from the players, and both manager and players want to achieve it for the club and it's supporters then that is one hell of a combination which is going to make the club extremely difficult to beat when the season truely gets under way.
