Superb game by the young 'uns. First time I'd seen the new outfit, thought Edgar was outstanding - can't wait for the season to start. Nice crowd as well.

Not a lot i can say about tonights game apart from

Great game, great attendance and a great atmosphere

Southend could have wrapped the game up with the chances they had towards the end of the game but the team got their reward for all the hard work they put in by getting the winner with almost the last kick of the game.

Ryan Edgar was outstanding tonight but everyone played their part, it`s going to be a tough job for John Batch to pick his best X1.

A crowd of over 800 is good anyway but is brilliant for a game arranged only a couple of days ago, thanks again Tilly hope things go well for you again this season.

Anyone else want the season to start tomorrow

I have to keep telling myself, it's only friendly, but when has ever playing Southend been considered as 'friendly'?!

If we had drawn, or even lost on tonight's performance I think we can all take great positives from the game.

We matched Southend's mixed Championship squad for the majority of the game, and it was only poor finishing from Southend that really kept the score level at half-time. They used the width of the pitch well and caught us out with cross field passes right to the touchline.

Second half, we were wider and upped the game with the help of the Yellow Army.

Lee Jay, Matt Reade and Clyde Roberts all were great on the wings. Ryan Edgar, Steve Corbell and Stuart Batch all battled hard in midfield. Leon, Nicky and Charlie and Jay for their part chased everything.

Blewer, Kreyling, West, Bourne, Lamb all mostly solid for the full 90 mins.

Ricky was a rock in goal, and pulled off some stunning saves.

If we can perform like that against a Championship club, Ryman 1 North look out!!

Credit to the Yellow Army too, in full voice once we got started.

To be honest I was singing and too excited to remember to take many. I did take some when the players came out for the first half to test the light, I'll see how they came out.

Brilliant performance. I have so much belief in these group of players. They have talent, passion and extremely big hearts and I'm so proud of how they played tonight.

Thought Ryan was outstanding and Westy at the back won everything.

Quality game, atmosphere and result!!!!

As I thought, only a couple of decent ones from really early in the game while it was still light enough. My camera is only a personal one and nowhere near the professional quality needed to be able to take pictures under floodlights. Should have more luck on Saturday.

Reads pretty fair to be honest. Southend should've won it with the amount of chances they had in the first half, but as the game wore on through the second period, you could really see us stealing it!

What a superb night! A simply brilliant performance from the lads, they never cease to amaze me with their effort! Some top saves from Ricky, Ryan dominated the middle, but in reality I'd put 10/10 next to every player out there tonight.

Great to see Southend fans turn up in numbers for the game, I hope they know how much it is appreciated.

Also, the Yellow Army were magnificent! The noise was as loud as anything last season bar Accrington, a sign of things to come!

However, in the middle of the celebration, I would remind everyone that not every game will be like this, and we need to support them through thick and thin.

It's been a long while since I've been this proud to be a Canvey Island fan!

Great Result, but why are Southend Supporters so bad losers, all Ive got in work is that they didn't have the first team out, but there was six of the first team there.

There were some Southend fans trying to give it large in the carpark afterwards, but they were only about 15/16 and most were dragged straight to their cars by others.

They were just being stupid by commenting on the fact that we all went mental when we scored - Well who wouldn't against a team six leagues above you! Even if we hadn't scored we still would've gone mental after a performance like that!!!

They should be proud that their team got a thorough work out
