I`m suprised we are getting as much coverage as we are! Best to wait until the season starts to see if we get any decent match reports.

The game was at Great Wakering!

As i say let`s give the Echo a chance, if they don`t support us then fine that`s their loss but at the moment i feel we still need to stay on their good side, we can`t afford to make enemies <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/argue.gif" alt="" />

They did what?! It's supposed to be the Castle Point Echo. I can handle news from Basildon and Southend, but Chelmsford is taking the Micheal.

like you say its supposed to be castle point echo so when has southend been called castle point never so they shouldnt have got a long write up, the report was that one-sided the echo is just trying to suck up, i think it was 50\50 all the way and the way it reads in the echo is that southend was very unlucky and didnt even say anything about how we played just how one player looked good (which i dont mind cos he was brill)!!!!!!!!

We didn't play all that special at all, we got a jammy goal in the last kick of the game.. If we played any other Championship team they'd hype them up to try and get readers, that's the media for you.

I was at the other match!!

You know the one where Canvey young guns took on a team nade up with at least half a dozen championship players and a few more who were there to try convince their manager to give them a chance at that level.

I was at the game where our young guns battled for and won balls that they had no right to win!

I was at the game where we fought with real spirit, where our youngsters fought through gritted teeth against all the odds and overcame far superior opposition!

I was at the game where a young inexperienced keeper despite a few jitters made three outstanding championship class saves!!

We made our luck and rode it all the way home like a championship jockey!!!

WE WERE LUCKY!!!

There is no such thing as luck. It's a fancy name for being always at our duty, and so sure to be ready when good time comes.

Stop talking such over-dramatic rubbish, MOB. We defended well, but there's no shame in looking inferior to that Southend side. There would be no shame in it if they had played no first team players at all. That's no slight on our players either.

Wiseman was fantastic in goal and every other player did well in defending, but you can't honestly sit there and say we matched Southend or even bettered them, because we quite clearly didn't. We had one real chance and we stuck it away. If Southend had put in half their chances they would have beaten us five.

I'm all for congratulating our players (and they did deserve it) but we can go too far and by making out they were the better team and that they pushed Southend is not going to do anyone any favours.

Southend are a Championship side and all our match to them was, was a pathetic little warm-up. It was Tilly doing a favour to his old team. It meant nothing to Southend and if we weren't so intent on building our team up, it would mean nothing (other than the result) to us. Like today, we beat Biggleswade 4-2... so what? It means nothing. None of these friendlies do. When we kick off against Flackwell Heath, is when things start to matter. Just like things only started to matter to Southend today when they went out there and beat Stoke.

End of rant.

Who actually gives a [****!!****] about Southend United?

The strength of their team is irrelivant, our players put in a great performance, and got a thorough workout. EVERYONE could tell that as the game went on Canvey were battling harder, and putting Southend through the paces. The atmosphere created played as the twelfth man. If it didn't mean anything, I don't think the players would've celebrated like they did when the ball hit the net.

It certainly did mean something to Southend too, as they had mentioned all weekend prior that their players would be tested for fitness and their trialists evaluated. Had we not requested the friendly, they wouldn't have had another match because their game against Brentwood was cancelled.

Some people on here appear to be more interested in making excuses for Southend, than actually reviewing our sterling performance, which if we play like that again could really turn a game.
