Canvey Island 4-0 Flackwell Heath

A fine, solid performance from Canvey to open the new campaign.

First half goals from Leon Gordon and Lee Jay put Canvey 2-0 at the break, before Leon notched his hat-trick with two strikes in the second half.

Flackwell weren't all that to be honest, good in the air but rarely made a decent chance. But you can only beat what is put in front of you.

Attendance of 433, only half a dozen from Flackwell. Start as we mean to go on...

An excellent result today with everyone playing a part.

Leon took his goals superbly and Nicky Rugg was superb up front, holding the ball up well.

Edgar and Dobbo dominated the midfield and the whole back 4 especially Westy were immaculate.

An attendance of 433 is very good indeed.

Great way to start the season!

A crowd of over 400 witnessed a good solid display and all round performance. We used the overlap and the width when possible and felt we closed them down quickly which gave us complete control of the midfield.

As I've said before I've not had a chance to really witness the players during pre season but personally felt we could have stepped up a gear if necessary - we looked quite comfortable. It's always nice to get a result in your first game - especially when it's at home and I'm sure their was a bit of anxiety. Although we scored 4 we created even more chances and could have got 6. The future looks bright especially when the lads really start to gel.

I was expecting a nightmare from the officials at this level but to be honest I felt they did ok today although a few decisions were questionable and the ref missed the possibility of playing the advantage.

Next challenge is Wingate & Finchley who I think will be a different kettle of fish from Flackwell Heath who were quite poor and didn't really trouble us at any stage. The lads should go into that game full of confidence.

We couldn`t have got off to a better start to the season, good football, good attendance and most importantly of all 3 points.

Hard to judge how good or bad Flackwell Heath were and i think it will take 5 or 6 games before we can get an idea of how well we will do this season but at the moment it`s all looking good

Great result!! Well done lads.

The Yellow Army were in fine voice (although I stood for the most by the bar) but could hear you all from t'other side of ground.

Great atmosphere and a good gate.

Lets hope this is only the start of a great season!

Only bad side - hang over this morning!!

Talk about weird. I saw our main coach driver from last season in a pub in Rochford last night. He couldn't miss me wearing my Canvey shirt!!! Says he'll be the driver for the Sudbury game in a few weeks.

Going back to the game, great atmosphere and let's hope we get over 500 for Tilbury on BH Monday.
