Wembley 0 Hornchurch 4

A comfortable victory in the end but we didn't open the scoring until half way into the second half.

Up until then Wembley had put up a good fight and after a Danny Cowley header from a Barrie Fox free kick was saved at full stretch by home keeper Allan Cumberbatch in the 32nd minute they nearly took the lead themselves from probably their best move of the match when a ball was threaded through into the area for Akram Sulliman who narrowly shot wide.

The Wembley defence didn't get much respite in the second half and after narrow misses from Martin and Jones in the opening minutes the deadlock was broken in the 65th minute when Adam Locke pushed the ball through to Andrew Martin on the edge of the area who blasted the ball into the far corner from a narrow angle. Wembley had a brief spell of possession after that but we made it 2-0 with 10 minutes to go. A Barrie Fox corner was headed down into the 6 yard area by Kevin Marsden at the far post where Danny Cowley finished off. The third came with a minute left, Kevin Marsden sending a long ball forward from defence for Craig Cripps who beat the offside trap and slotted past the advancing keeper. Our fourth came soon after with Adam Locke converting from the spot after Gavin McGowan was brought down in the penalty area.

Line-up:- Wood, Carter (McGowan 78), Bates, Jopson, Marsden, Gooding, Locke, Cowley, Jones (Cripps 88), Martin, Fox.

your usual unbiased self robbie...thank you...I saw things somewhat differently however....they were full of 'new manager' spirit in the 1st half and to be fair, although we held the game comfortably, they should have gone in at half time one nil up..bad miss to be regretted, might have been a different game if they had scored...second half...I would have put the house on it, all urchins and only a question of what the score would be...supporters were great (as always) so were the team.. carter excellent yet again and nice to see taffy back on the score sheet...all of the team were right up for it...its gonna take a good team or a bad break to beat us...well done urchins...merry xmas to you all...

Well done lads, couldn't make it to the game today, but excellent result. Roll on Boxing Day, a must win game, given that the top 2 play each other that day as well. Merry Xmas all!!

do agree, have to say however that they definately underestimated us, I'm beginning to wonder how much homework these guys do, listeneing to their supporters ( and there weren't may it has to be said on a cold wet and damp day) they thought we were lucky to be where we are and that we would not maintain a challenge...!!!! great stuff...

I agree, I don't think that the other teams in this division are taking us as a serious threat. Strange really, thay all seem to have got on to the money side of whats happening at the old stadium but they really do seem to think that we are not a serious threat on the pitch. Good thing really, let them all underestimate us. Just keep nicking the three points and they'll all be looking up at us. A Merry urchin xmas everyone. See you all boxing day.

Lets be fair here ,you should be top of the table with the squad you have, anything but promotion this season would be a complete let down for you,the standard of football in this division is poor and anyone putting in as much money into the playing side of the club like you have should get promoted.

we outfought you at our place,i couldnt make the game at yours so cant comment,i think teams dont underestimate you they pretty much know what to expect just by seeing your teamsheet, you have come a long way in a short time but beware this has happened to other clubs someone bankrolls them and then pulls out when they dont do so well,so good luck for now and enjoy because you just never know when it will end.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, nice to see you on the site as well, you're always welcome. Do me a favour though, try and think of something more original to post than the money stuff, in all truth, we've done that one to death. By the way, money doesn't buy success, ask Newcastle, Canvey Island, Dagenham etc, they've all gone for broke at some time or other and ended up with zilch, we know to well the pitfalls that await us. Steering through those potentially rocky straits is half the fun. Cheer up camel, you've got a nice easy one against Northwood on Boxing Day!!
