Ware v Canvey

Looked to me as if he pushed the ball upwards over his head, but backtracking as well it hit him and bounced away into the goal. Couldn't tell if their man took a final touch or not from up the other end of the field.

Didn't think their first was an own goal. Thought it had alrady gone in before hitting West or was certainly heading that way? Most Defenders that get to the goal before the ball try and hook it away for a corner!

Agree with what Lefty said too. I'm sure he booked the same player twice as well... Or do they all look like ginger Shreks?!

Some good points in your post Matt.

I agree that we look rather weak on the right - mainly defensively - shown not just yesterday but also against Lowestoft the week before. However, Ware looked rather rattled and on the back foot when we continued to press and looked no better than us - they now sit in 5th - with a bit more luck (no comment on the officials) we would now sit in a very comfortable position in the table. We just need that bit of luck and some consistency.

At the moment we don't seem to have an out and out striker which is worrying. I can't fault Nicky - he works his socks off and his control and pace are extremely good. Curran also has a turn of pace and some good control - but we seem to struggle to convert these half chances. A while ago our leading striker was Leon who had a hat trick and was subsequently injured.

You mentioned Lee Jay being in effective and during the Lowestoft game I would have agreed. I couldn't understand why Corbell had been dropped (injured?)However, to be fair to the lad I was standing fairly close to him during the second half and his control and touch were very good and he did try - although I don't feel he is the most physical of players. Sometimes the final delivery or pass goes a stray - but you could say that about quite a number of the players and it needs to be worked on.

Standing on the sidelines I just felt we still had a touch of misunderstanding with some runs, simple passes and overlaps but again I think this will come in due course. Now we have had a few games I'm sure Batchy is starting to realise some of the problems and which players he feels should start - it's now the difficult time when decisions need to be made and I for one don't envy him. At the moment I'm still not sure we have played our strongest line up with injuries etc......

With regard to their winning goal I thought Ricky flapped at the ball but their player did get his head to the ball which looped back over Ricky and into the back of the net - but likewise I was at the other end.

I thought the officials were shocking yesterday, but we cant overlook there were a lot of basic schoolboy errors in our defence which have to be sorted out quickly. Also how did the referee allow the game to go ahead on that pitch, when was the grass cut last - a disgrace.

football has always been played on grass, you should see aveleys pitch,as long as the pitch has grass on it it doesn't matter how long it is as long as you can play footy on it

We did not so much lose the battle in mid-field as fly over the top of the mid-field.

When faced by a kick first and ask questions later opposition we lose playing the ball out from the back and get carried away with the excitement created by the other teams frantic efforts. In the end the mid-field stop being available, as they now feel certain the ball will be cleared long.

We have two hold the ball up CFs but need one predator and one hold the ball up striker and preferably one having a bit more pace.

The GK simply needed a defender he respected who could calm his nerves.

None of the above is unusual in a team building from the collapse of a previous first team and John will no doubt build-on given reasonable time.

Strong and skilled characters build their own teams momentum and overcome the opposition’s tempo, it will happen we have the attitude and that is half the battle.

Unfortunately or fortunately according to your point of view it’s only a goal when the ref says so and vice versa.

If they have more goals than you then they won. Bad decisions do even out or in this league all teams get refs who do not know their rear end from their elbow more often than not.

The strange situation is when invaders from other clubs persist in what can only be jealous taunting on our forum.

O.K. so we have a conference facility qualified home ground and we are (now) self generating in financial control but Canvey have several years of hard work in achieving their target of self sufficiency controlled by the fans.

As with Enfield we have the history but again as with Enfield it’s a long way back to those heady days.

Ignore the knob-heads in the knowledge that having done it once we can achieve again at the level they can only aspire to. The majority of their fans are no different to ours; lets enjoy their company twice a year.

whatever the result was it was fair and stands!

Don't really think anyone will argue with you on that one, but try to understand the frustration of seeing your team lose in what can only be considered 'unusal' circumstances. Keepers don't normally give away such soft goals and then to have what looked like a perfectly good goal disallowed for off-side, well it does make you angry.

Football wouldn't be the game it is if we weren't allowed to come onto our own discussion board and moan about things - length of grass, referee, the weather, etc. That's all we're doing here and I expect similar things happen on your own discussion board.

If we win our next game, Ware will be forgotten. If we lose, I expect we will be back with our lame excuses and hard luck stories. It's what football is all about. But thanks for showing such a keen interest in the goings-on at Canvey.

You ignorant prick. The grass was about a foot long and we would be complaining about that if we had have won. It's ridiculous that the ref let the game go ahead on that. What's the matter, didn't you have the energy to run around with the manual?
Wait until you come down the Lane and you'll see how short the grass is supposed to be.
