good result, not great performance. no idea how they were above us before today. they didn't have a shot. rudi makes a massive difference, whole place looks lifted. still need to get another striker though. hope deano's injury not too bad, but why wasn';t he starting?????

Maybe not a top performance but I will settle for 3 - 0 at home any week.
Let's face it Bury were above us in the League, just beaten Hornchurch and doing okay.
In fact they had very few chances today.
AND if the Crace "goal" in the first half had stood ( which from where I was standing it should have, but for a poor Lino ) who knows what the score would have been.
There was some good movement all over the park with Rudi back and pulling strings in several directions.
The team did seem "lifted" by him being in the side.
We still need a strong centre forward who can hold up play for Crace and a.n. other to feed off.
I think we would see even more from Crace with a big lad next to him.
Overall, good result ( and at home ! )

I can I say well done to Gazza for selling the 50/50 tickets and keeping the winning one back for me!

John, Campbell, Smith, Gant, Tickner, Magona, Velandia, Hall, Crace, Hammatt, Allen, Nyman, Ritchie, Mackey, Hughes, Harrison.

Gate 249 Where were ya?

Well Bury Town were down 1 goalkeeper today and 4 midfielders but having said that town stepped up a gear for the first time this season. Thank goodness for that.

The fist half was quite quite-ish. Ricci Crace scored a lovely goal in the first half which was disallowed by the linesman much to the incredulity of the town fans! Bury Town not to be outdone were well offside when they put the ball past John. 0 – 0. The Rudi trademark corners were back for all to see. Paul Campbell was body-checked off the ball in the box – Surely this must be a penalty – no free-kick from outside the box? Lee Smith was booked for a foul on Lee Smith. The referee decided to argue with the fans regarding his decisions to make town go back 10 yards but not appear to enforce the rule in the same manner when it was Bury Towns turn. I bet you won’t argue with the supporters again ref will you?

Second half Dean Nyman on for Lee Smith. John saved Town at the other end. David Allen took a bang on the head and was crepe bandaged for the rest of the game - mummy! He then showed the old David Allen spirit by playing on and not shying away from headers. The first goal came from the ball bobbing around in the box like a pinball that just would not go in including off the bar but eventually Ricci Crace netted it beautifully. 1 – 0. town fans cheered in great relief. David Allen and Adam Gant tackling back cleanly. Jerome John on the edge of his box clears with a header. Dean Nyman down injured. Niall Ritchie on for an injured Dean Nyman. Town win a free kick on the edge of the box. Rudi delivered a sublime ball for Ricci Crace to glance the ball home past Goody. Ricci Crace was booked for agreeing with the town fans assessment of the linesman. In reality Ricci Crace should have been on his 2nd hat-trick of the season. Finally Niall Ritchie scores a lovely volley past a diving Goody. Fantastic goal if you missed it you missed a stonker, with Town winning our first home win of the season. Some new shoots of recovery.

I dont think Bury were at full strength yesterday, We got them on a good day for us , The test will be when we travel away to these clubs ,Hornchurch ,Bury , Harlow ,The E's ,Sudbury and I still think Canvey will come good and thats another danger for us.

Agreed. Unfortunately the un-subbable Captain Hammett doesn't look up to the job at the moment. I'm sure he's a great guy, but he doesn't deserve a starting position on recent performances.

3-0 and we had about 4 shots on target. The wing-backs formation STILL ISN'T WORKING! I get the feeling that perhaps a different manager could get alot more out of this talented squad.

Maybe Brian and JC'll both prove me wrong, but we seem to be rising up the league in spite of rather than because of their efforts.

After some of the goals from Smith, Ritchie, Nyman and Hughes this season I don't think we need another striker - perm one from four, they each add a different dimension according to need. I admit I had my doubts about Smithy at this level but JC has proved me wrong he has done well in the "Kevin Riley utility" role. Bung him anywhere there is a gap and he gives 120%.

I thought for possibly the first time at home this season (in second half) the wing backs did work. With Paul Campbell doing well. They tell me Bryan is a good motivator - Well you don't have to do that from on the pitch? How about from the touchline?

It was a pleasure to see the passion back by the bucketload though. What we lack in skill we make up in true grit and determination. Makes going to watch the town great - So why are the gates so poor? Well if we continue to improve our entertainment pleasure we will hopefully get the fans back.

The gates are poor for Town (250-ish),because we have consistantly served up poor ,boring, disjointed home performances since our formation. Our points tally at home over the years ,has consistantly compared to teams in the bottom 8 of the league. Our superb away from saves us year after year.

If Fans only watch us at home and never away, they must think we are poor value for the increased gate money we are charging this season.

Even on Saturday,we wasted the first half (as we always do).

I can see our home form slowly inproving over the season, and i've no doubt that crowds will rise to the 300 mark again,IF we start playing better and picking up more points on our own ground.
