Sorry old boy, but there is still that cute little Ryman rule that says you cannot call a match off until 5 minutes before kick-off

Well maybe a bit earlier, but only only on the same day.

I got into deep trouble a couple of years back for announcing that our game was off at 11:30pm on Friday

No one told me that the pitch inspection had been done in torchlight at 12:01 on Saturday

Cannot blame you there David in my youth hanging around football pitches at 1201 at night carried completely different intent than concern over the state of the pitch

Hopefully only an odd tyre print and discarded foriegn corrispondance evidenced the visit

How many places are there on Canvey where you can buy a drink - don't worry about membership? Tony Richardson asked this question in the bar one evening and we were all stumped. We could name all the pubs but then we had to include the various clubs - CanveyFC, the Bingo club, Labour club, Tory club, all the restaurants (and there's a lot of them) but excluding places where the public are not normally admitted, i.e. Matthews bedroom, Merv's office or Ian's wine cellar (well actually, anybody can get an invite to Ian's cellar; just quote your inside leg measurement)

I don't know the answer but this could be the opportunity to put together the ultimate Drinking Man's Guide to Canvey Island.

I didn't know there was a place on this island called Matthews Bedroom!! I'd like to see Mr. Matthews and see it resembles anything like my bedroom! Matthew's bedroom!!

Merv you complain about cum on ricay's spelling and punctuation!! I think you've been trying to decipher one too many of his posts with your enigma machine!!!

Sorry about that pabird, when I came back from the ground, my dad had decided to defrag the computer, so I couldn't get on to post it. Probably best, I would have told you to go for it as the pitch seemed saveable!

MERV, The club house at the Golf Club and the Olympic Bar at Waterside often get forgotten about when one is attempting a 'tour of duty' around the Island.

(the bar at Waterside, kind of defeats the object of going there in an attempt to lose weight and get fit doesnt it ? !!)

ps the Club house used to pull a fine glass of IPA at 99p a pint, not sure if that offer still stands.
