poor showing again! glen should have a chance but i dont think john has the confidence in him, he should of been playing last night ricky was not fit. i over herd amy saying to him "you shoudnt be playing tonight with with that hand and you will only make you back worse"

we never realy got going from the start we seem to slow the pace of the game down to suit the other team and not keep the pace up to go with our game!!

3 very poor goals!

first - not a foul at all, well struck free kick.

second - silly foul to give away should have been cleared by the first man but then ricky should have saved poor goalkeeping on his part

third - another silly foul and very very poor marking!!

some players seem to go missing for large parts of the game!

some positives tho

Ricky made 3 great saves first have one he saved with his foot was world class

Kreyling winning every header he went for

West not trying to over play

roberts didnt stop working has great skill and beats his man

leon look sharp up top and took his goal very well!

we seem to keep the same team week in week out i think the starting 11 are all good players but i feel we have a really weak squad with no one on the bench who can change the game or put pressure on a player who is already in the starting 11

personal i think we need to make a few new signings and quick!!!

Glen HAS to picked now surely.

Wiseman is just a liability, the 1st goal his wall was lined up all wrong then when it does go past them he doesnt even bother making an attempt to save it and i agree with you bbb if he had decent reflexs he would of saved the 2nd and 3rd and who the [****!!****] does he think he is going around pushing his own team mates? he should look at his own thoughts befor blameing others. LIABILITY!!!

Without Glen getting a chance in goal we will never find out if he is the answer or not but he for sure cant do no worse than wiseman. Glen's an overall better keeper, can kick, talks alot more to the defence, comands his area well and a good shot stopper. He deserves his chance now as it has been well over due.

Feel Leon and Clyde deserve praise for thier performance, they worked hard all night and caused Wivenhoe problems.

Sounds like we were fcking awful last night! What a Jekyll & Hyde team we appear to be this season!

If what everyone there is saying is true, then surely Ricky has be be dropped for at least one game to either recouperate or be disciplined. Give Glen his chance for fck sake, if he doesn't take it, he'll just have himself to blame.

I'm disappointed in that I saw the league table before the result and when I noticed we've fallen as low as we have, it has finally dawned upon me, that our squad just can't cut it at this level in most fixtures. Two or three key injuries and we have nothing of any worth in reserve.

However, what we as fans need to understand though is that new players aren't going to come in unless we get rid of a few first. We have to keep the books balanced and we can only offer the terms as what our current players are on.

Saying that though, with the added revenue gained from this season of consilidation, next season's playing budget maybe slightly higher and then we can afford more experienced players. Personally, I think a few of our younger players will only remain in the first team squad for this season, before either being left in the reserves or leaving the club entirely.

We were told pre-season that all the Reserves from last season had potential - Well I'll be fcked if I've seen any from some of them yet and I've missed the last three games as it is.

The majority of the squad have risen up as many levels as the Club itself has fallen, but some of them have appeared content not to bother adjusting or those that do try their hardest simply aren't good enough to keep consistency.

An experienced head between the sticks and probably another up front is what we need for now. I'm confident the defence will improve once the right combination of players is found and our wide players will develop over time - Most of them could do with a few hours down the gym and a decent meal though.

We definately need someone to keep finding the back of the net though and the players to constantly feed him - The defence can let in one or two as long as he's getting a hat-trick every game.

Matt, quite a lengthy post! Out of everything you said i can honestly say that i couldnt disagree with any of it. spot on. Need a couple of new faces in to push people for places. if people need to be released to do that for finances then so be it

Matt - as usual a well constructed and presented argument. Outside the debate of effort, motivation and commitment I draw 2 conclusions fom your post; the first is that we do not contain the general mix of physical presence to match most other squads in our league (thats how we shine against the GWR's of the world), hence your suggestion of a good meal and gym time is applicable (althought dont let the players queue for their good meal at GWR - they'll risk wasting away). The second point is that of emotion (out of character, you were swearing) theres an air of impatience that management need to address - i know we are only a few games in, but if personnel changes need to be made then bring it on.

Can't understand why Matt Reade was on the bench and not brought on. His height and precense would have caused Wivenhoe plenty of problems. Would have liked to have seen either Charlie Parker or Nick Reynolds on the bench to give us a few more attacking options.

Apologies for the swearing and obviously my observations are coming from what I have seen, which unfortunately doesn't include the past fortnight.

I have seen enough this season though both through first XI games and reserve fixtures to realise that many of our players are borderlining on the fringes of the squad. Some that do perform consistantly well for the Reserves are sometimes not even making the bench for the first team. Yet players who I've honestly seen have lazy games in the Reserves always more often that not make the bench and sometimes even start... I'm trying hard not to name names, it should be transparent to regulars anyway.

As Benny says, it's starting to become obvious now who in the squad is just not good enough. We've always had players like it, but seeing as now we are effectively 'in control' of their wages, I feel we get more of a say in how they're performing. We can't fault the Manager for the players' performances because, lets be honest, who is there to come in and replace them? Batch and Britts appear to be trying to get the best out of a semi-mediocre squad of which we have talented individuals rather than a hard-working team.

That may appear quite negative, but I'm just of the opinion that A) Many players need a good kick up the backside, B) Those that aren't performing need to be dropped, therefore, hopefully with the right attitude and commitment, create C) A squad that challenges for starting places both in training and during matches with a view to becoming a settled and progressive first XI.

I do believe we've been unlucky with some individual injuries and I feel I may have been quite harsh earlier in the season to write off Colin Wall. He wasn't match fit, now he has a lengthy injury and when he comes back to fitness I hope he challenges for his spot in the centre of defence. Also, I can't wait to see what Danny Curran has to offer, perhaps he's the missing goalscorer! Give him the service and maybe he'll be the one putting them away every game. We can only hope!

Ooops! Sorry, another lengthy post!

Another lengthy post Matt but another that hits the nail on the head. The one thing i've noticed this year more than anything is some players lack of desire and effort. you'd think waiting to get in the first team they'd be chomping at the bit to impress. Unfortunately, this hasnt been the case for a handful.

I agree with your points about some people making the bench week in week out after poor performances in the reserves. their is no point keeping such players who wont be challenging for a first team place.

in total agreement there. was i the only one to find our substitutions a bit odd?
Reynolds has both the height and the pace to potentially cause problems for the opposition. last night was the ideal time to give him say 20 mins. regarding Reade, he has done very well in the reserves lately - thought he deserved a chance.

I think Reade has been over looked a bit. Hopefully he'll get his chance soon and take it with both hands. Aprt from Reade, i dont see anyone else pushing for a first 11 start apart from Crow or Bourne when either isnt playing.

it seems a couple are picking up money just for playing in the reserves every week. Not their fault at all but we need some new faces to challenge the starting 11

This reads like a very negative thread, but I understand it is meant in a positive way!!

Lets not lose a couple of points!

We are a young side learning!!

We have new management team!!

Our target this year was survival and we will achieve that!!

Things need time to settle other clubs have established set ups with a couple of changes each year. We are starting from scratch!!

We as a club have a financial target to enable us to develop, I believe that is 300 per game, before we accuse anyone of not performing we must look at ourselves and ask were there 300 at a home game last night? The answer was no!!

I am not slagging of fans, what I am saying there are many factors in our success and the players performance is just one factor!

Thursday evening our chairman and his staff will be available to answer questions, that is easy when we are winning, it is not so easy when we are having a difficult time as we are now.

They are still doing it though, lets all get down there and offer our support and our ideas!!

Interesting and thought provoking debate that has enticed me back from my exile.

Unfortunately couldn't get there on Tuesday, but what I have seen of late leads me to agree with the general jist that we need to bulk up, both physically and in terms of experience.

I'm sure Curran will come good with the goals when fully fit and if we do need a keeper (and having played as one myself I'm not sure that it is skill that is lacking rather than organisational ability which extends to the defence as a whole rather than just the keeper)isn't Ash kicking his heals at GWR. If they can afford him then surely we can?

One small disagreement with Matt is that he exonerates the management saying it is down to the players. Personally I think it is too early to criticise the manager, but if you are going to level criticism then John Batch must take a share equal to that of the players. In addition to what has been said above what has disappointed me this season is the lack of share, vision and positional awareness, all of which the manager must strive to improve in training sessions. Okay, he might not be working with the most experienced or technically gifted players, but coaching should enable players of any standard to hold their position and get their heads up to see what is happening around them.

I'm sure that all this will come in time, and urge fans not to be too critical at this early stage. Things will improve as we start to play together as a team, the management and the players deserve a bit more time.

Well Mr.MOB I agree with what you are saying in your posting, but my worry is the fickle fan.

You say we are young and learning and because of that we do tend to blow hot and cold. Unfortunately the cold seems to be largely at home at present.

Do you think that if we have a run of poor performances the crowd numbers will diminish or do you think that our average gate, which must be around 400ish, represents the hard core who have stayed loyal since our demise from the Conference.

Hopefully it is the latter and numbers will grow as we get more experienced and hopefully start to climb both the current table and then the higher leagues.
