...It's not complete anything. It's the only two days a year that the railway is inactive. I'm sure you wouldn't want to work over Christmas. Most people don't even want to travel.

It`s a bit different from the usual reduced Christmas service this year, there are no trains this side of Laindon for a week It`s sure to cause more than a little hassle for a lot of people.

Yeah I know. That's nothing to do with c2c though.

Don`t they run that part of the line?

rubbish, lots of people go football on boxing day,it has been going on for tens of years. The rail network make enough money out of us to put trains on boxing day.christmas day fine but boxing day the trains should run. What about people who don't celebrate christmas???
And i am sure there are c2c workers who paid well for working would work.If sporting events, pubs, restaurants etc etc are open then the rail network should be as well.Don't have to be a brilliant service, just enough so people can travel to and from their homes

They run the entire line, but they don't decide when and where to do engineering works, or even carry them out. That lies soley in the hands of Network Rail. c2c have to comply with their wishes.

There doesn't have to be any service. The railway industry isn't there to meet your needs; it's there to make money. Why should the rail workers be forced to work when the vast majority of the population is at home and doesn't want to travel anyway? Trains would be running around almost empty and stations would be desserted. It's a complete waste of time.
Most of the rail lines in the country will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with only the Stansted Express, Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express running from London (though I believe parts of the tube are too) and, I think, Central Trains in the midlands are running a very restricted service for some reason.

it's a conspiracy by dodgy cab drivers who want to earn triple fare. also railway engineers who want to earn quadruple time...

the rail service exists to make profit for it's shareholders. it used to be there to provide a service. that's what's changed.

well why should we the general public have to pay over the odds to travel anywhere boxing day.I think you will find there are plenty of rail workers who would work if the money was right. And as the rail network was originally there for the public to get around i would suggest that it should be open partly on boxing day.

I bet there would be less cases of drink driving if the trains were operating and i bet at least one person loses their life due to the railway being closed and some idiot drink driving boxing day

is it that obvious????

perhaps some should think about others instead of thinking about themselves.Rail workers get enough time off over the year and are paid very well because the public pay over the odds to travel on a pathetic service for most of the year(although it has got slightly better since we was awarded the olympics!).Saying that whenever the weather is nice they all seem to chuck sickies to go to the beach!!!

sod doing it any other time of year, you have to put up with enough shít the rest of the year. probably the least used time of year so its a good idea (god i cant beleve im sticking up for that rubbish railway) plus they are running busses in replacement to trains. will make getting back from London on new years day interesting at least

are they running bus replacements on boxing day,i was under the impression that they were not!!!

As long as there is some sort of service to get people from a to b then it isn't a problem. If not then all football games and other events should be cancelled as not everyone can drive and it isn't fair to those who don't.

yes because people "have to" use them to get to work. Its all well and good saying they are there to make money but the companies who own it know that the customer must be catered for, without customers they do not have a service.Part of the reason why the cost of travelling is so high is because people who drive and don't have touse the train, don't want to use the trains as the services are often late, dirty, dangerous etc etc.So they sting the people that have to use the services like your average commuter!!

From memory, there were never any trains Xmas/Boxing Day when it was just British Rail or Network South East...

Anyway, what are you lot complaining about, from November to March everyone in CORNWALL disappears and getting around is by as the once a week bus service is reduced and the railway goes back to Stephensons Rocket !

NEW YEARS EVE, 100,000 PEOPLE IN FANCY DRESS - NEWQUAY THE WORLDS PARTY CAPITAL

The rail industry would loose money hand over fist if they had to run a service over Christmas. Staffing the booking offices, paying drivers and cleaners... just so that ten people can use a train. Unless it is going to be used sufficently, there is no point.

Rail workers get enough time off? Then so do you - hope you'll be working Christmas and Boxing Day.
The only reason ticket prices are so inflated is because the SRA (Strategic Rail Authority) and the government allow fares to legally be increased by a certain percentage once a year and to be 'adjusted' once or twice during the year. This is allegadly to be able to run a better service, though in reality it just ends up in the shareholders pockets.

ten people, what planet are you on,if the trains were working they wouldn't be full, granted but at times they would be well used.People travel to relatives christmas eve and most would probably rather go home boxing day than stay an extra day but are forced to because there are no trains. Also if there are to be full football fixtures then fans should be able to get to them. Not all teams have coaches for fans and not all fans have cars.

sorry guys, but i agree with ribbit here. people deserve time off over Christmas. i work in retail and you would not believe the abuse we get from some people because we close for the two days. that in spite of the fact we normally trade 24 hours a day. they don't appreciate that we have families too.

as for Boxing day i will be driving.

and consider, maybe some rail workers would like to go to football as well.

they usualy run over the christmas period they just arent this year. as far as time off over christmas goes, if you want time off then get a job that gives it. i used to manage pubs which ment christmas eve, christmas day, boxing day, cnew years eve and new years day were all work days, but that comes with the job. it is now why i work in television, you get sh!t loads of time off
