Quite. But we need to know what - if anything - is going on first. We appear to have genuine, ordinary supporters being elected to the board, and resigning, disenchanted, making references to inner circles and so on. There is no point in others stepping forward if the same thing is going to happen again and again.

Maybe there is no problem, perhaps there has been a misunderstanding, or simply a genuine disgreement over on eor more issues, but we will never know until and unless someone who really knows speaks out.

How about the membership have access, via the proper channels, to board meeting minutes? Other societies divulge minutes to their members. Some clubs even put their minutes on their web site for all to see, even non members. Now there's progress for you.

The “Inner Circle” was first mentioned on Not the ETFC as a joke! The light-hearted comment was made when a regular on this forum who joked about the possibility that a splinter group could be forming within the group of supporters who regularly attend the weekly ETFC night at The Hollybush. The term became used more frequently on this forum to the point where some regular supporters seemed to genuinely believe that the splinter group actually existed. The more the “IC” was mentioned the more real it appeared to become. In my opinion it was not a moniker that referred to the Enfield Town FC or the Board.

I beg to differ DOY.

I do too!

It is rare to find members of the inner circle on here - It is verbotten! I reckon I could name 1 current Board member that comes on from time to time.

Is it becoming a Board Crisis? There are 2 remaining board members reported as not too well recently and one working on a long term contract overseas.

Time for some new members me thinks. I nominate

Arkwright, Lovely Stuff, Sponsor of Beer and Duke of York. That should ruin their chances lol!

Personal opinion here so I don't expect many to agree but some have alluded to it:

The question of competence has been mentioned by some - the three resignees mentioned are all passionate about what they do but based on what I know about these three individuals, I would say that (let's be kind) they often open their mouth before engaging their brain to varying degrees. Nothing against them for their commitment to the club but I would say (personal opinion again) that those on the board are less likely to show our club in a negative manner than those that have gone.

The so-called "inner circle" are suited and booted as they represent our club at board level and do so with great aplomb.

Nomination from me: Dukey is the man!

If any of the resignees want to put the record straight, do so - don't skirt around the issues, just give us the facts.

Then you explain on here where I have been party to 'opening my mouth before engaging my brain to varying degrees'. Let's not forget that there have been more than three members stand down from the board since 2001.

Even though i don't know the full story regarding Southports falling out with the baord,it seems plain to me that there is a two tier boardroom in operation, with the top 4 or 5 not taking much notice of the rest. This has been reflected with supporter elected members such as Andy H,Rymanreason, and Southport all resigning because they feel aggrieved at their treatment by the senior board members.I'm not blaming either side, maybe those three were not up to it and were gently pushed aside by the more competent board members.Maybe they were very competent and came up with plenty of good ideas that were ignored, who knows?

The fact remains that the current system is not working.I propose having a smaller boardroom of 4 or 5.With a seperate general committee that would contain the other half of the current boardroom set up,plus some working commitee members..etc.

The Society Board is to have no less than 12 and not more than 15 members.

PS I was also a board member from day 1 until I resigned.

As has been said 12 is far too many for the delicate negotiations that have to take place. There is bound to be confidentiality with numbers like that and for both sides - inner and outer circle - there will be frustrations but the inner circle cannot vent their spleen on a public BB. That is the way of the world.

The success of the board or not has to be determined by the success of the club, (WHICH IS WHAT WE ALL SHOULD CARE ABOUT). As far as I am concerned I dont care who is in a clique - out of a clique - inner circle or just going round and round.

So long as we win on Saturday.

All mutual societies have factions, fractions and are, occasionally, fractious. Get over it and remember nobody ever said it would be easy.

Thats my two pennorth.

I don't see the problem. All members of the board are elected by the supporters. If there is something you don't like stand.

If all you lot that go on about a so called inner circle want to do something about it put your votes where your mouths are and put up candidates and stand against them.

The start moaning about people who wear suits is childish and I'm sure most of them only wear them because they are representing the club.

So all you members of the OUTER CIRCLE put up or shut up!!!

The three mentioned on here to a man believed they were fans first and Board members second. Confidentiality was only an issue of conflict in the amount that some wanted to keep confidential from the fans. Like everything?

If board members had their hands over their ears because they have discomfort with what businessmen say they may say it louder for a while but then get tired of hearing their own voice saying the same old things and give up.

As for suited and booted - my bin man mate got married in a suit last week and shook everybody's hand, he looked smart but he doesn't try to run a football club with no ground or clubhouse of its own.

This club cannot sustain a business model in a higher league without seriously improved sponsorship income, its own bar and/or nightclub. I have seen precious little match sponsorship income this season and lower gates. If Dukey can turn that around he gets my vote!

I'm told we budget for a gate of 300 but I think we should amend the business model to 250 fans and see how that effects the financial projections. I was at Hull City FC last week for a Christmas Party for 2,000 people in the Board Room and associated bars - Great bands, great crack and great income for the club.

After the early years where FrankenRoy drove the requirements for ground compliance I think we have trodden water and for me it isn't good enough. As a fan I think we have lost the vision of the promised ground of our own and I can't see any progress to it.

Town’s average this season is just over 300! This is pretty good considering we missed out on promotion last season. Distractions caused by blanket coverage of Premiership games via the Arabic channels make it even harder to tempt fans along to Goldsdown Road.

If you look up to the Conference North and South you’ll find ten teams who have a lower average than ours. In the Ryman Premier, Southern League Premier, SL Midlands, SL South & West, most of the teams fail to reach Town’s average gate for this R1N season. If we do get it right on the pitch this season and reach the promised land of the Ryman Premier, our attendances will receive a massive boost with greater travelling support throughout 2007/08.

Imagine the scene if we had gained promotion last season? My bet is that we would be looking forward to a Boxing Day visit from AFC Wimbledon and their huge band of loyal supporters. Hopefully AFC Wimbledon will fail to gain promotion this season so we can meet them in 2007/08.

The major issue for this club is obtaining its own revenue generating facility. That's the only way that ETFC can continue to develop.

Steph is right in that he says results are important, but even if we get promoted to the Ryman Premier next season, our income is never going to rise to the level we would like until we have our own ground, bar, training and some kind of leisure facility - just like Southbury Road in the good old days.

Sorry, but until we have our own ground I just don't see how the make up of the board and whether they wear suits or not ;-) is going to make any difference to how the club is run, whether it be at Step 3 or Step 4 of the non-league pyramid.

Sad that Southport has resigned, but he has already said he remains a committed supporter and we can ask no more.

The current loss of Frank Cartwright through oversees work commitments has not helped the club at all.He was the driving force behind all the ground improvements/ ground gradings..etc.

To currently be without both he and Roy is not good for the club, and is putting more on more pressure on the shoulder of those manfully trying to cover their jobs(and well as doing their own).

Its a pity Frank is so tied down with work committments.Otherwise i'd always thought that he would have been a strong candidate for the role of

chairman.

Certainly the suits issue is a non-starter. I am very pleased that our board members wear suits, or at least jackets and ties, on match days. This is of course expected at higher levels (at this level too for all I know) and it is right and proper that our officials conduct themselves ina professional manner and give a good impression of our club.

I am less convinced that democracy is well served by the attitude "we will do what we want, without informing you, if you don't like it you'd better try to unseat us". This is, to my mind, something of a grotesque caricature or bastardization of democracy (but prevalent in modern politics).

I prefer the concept of elected representatives humbly serving those who elect them, and carrying out their wishes.

Obviously some issues are confidential - certain financial matters, ground matters, personal matters regarding players contracts etc - but I would expect all our elected members to be trusted with such information: that's why we elected them. I do not recall electing a two tier hierarchy.
