Phew! Got out of jail at Potters Bar today

Two nil down and 6 minutes to go and we only go and snatch a draw, don’t we?

Did we deserve it? Well the truth is that we didn’t really but Potters Bar were even worse than us and I don’t think they deserved a win either. Certainly not a two-nil win. Life probably doesn’t get much worse for a football team; crap ground, no fans and very little in the way of football on the pitch.

But excuses over, we were very poor today. Some wag standing near me suggested that a lot of the team had been out on the pi$$ last night and were much the worse for wear today. I don’t know if that is true or not, but I have to admit, it did look like it from where I was standing. Poor positional play, dreadful first time control, woeful passing and a general feeling of not wanting to get involved. This looked like the lambs of a few months ago, not the lions who have been rampaging for the past dozen games.

We were two-nil down and on the one hand Potters Bar were flattered by that score line, by the same token, we were lucky to have nil. Then it all happened. First we pulled one back and it seemed to light the blue touchpaper. Canvey suddenly became explosive. Every ball was chased, every tackle was won and the hangover was temporarily forgotten. We were on fire and the second goal was a mere formality. In fact, a third winner was on the cards and we almost had it when a goal line scramble saw the ball handled off the line by the PB’s No 4 (at least it was seen by the dozen of us behind the goal, but not by the referee who was too busy stroking his guide-dog at the time).

In a way it may be right that we didn’t get a winner as, in truth, we didn’t really deserve it.

Man of the Match? Nobody. Woman of the Match? Easy. The woman on the burger bar who, with a queue of 8 people was completely out of her depth. The she heard the drums and chants of 50 Yellow Army marching into the ground.

“What the [****!!****] is that?” she exclaimed.

“That’s the Yellow Army,” says I, “and they’ll be ever so hungry.”

The reply would have made Gordon Ramsey blush.

One point, a decent burger and a free Santa hat. Not a bad build up to the big one on Boxing Day.

Thought we were absolute [****!!****] for 85 minutes. Was it Jay Curran who scored the second goal by the way?

Only really came alive when Matt Reade came on. He provided more of a precense and won alot of loose balls. Up until then we just didn't look interested and couldn't get any decent possesion at all.

I think a draw is about right as both sides didn't play particularly well.

Can anybody from Potters Bar, tell me who scored your second goal? Think it might have been your number 10.

i think matt played well you cant take that away from him, but john should get some credit for changing to 3-4-3 after he changed our shape to more attacking everyone knew it was all or nothing and today it went our way we got a bit of luck and got to 2-2 and could have gone one better and won it with the chance by rugg, but all in all a draw was fair not much was happening up until 85mins and we showed them how we really play but it was to late for all three points!! (just think if we played like we did in the last 5mins for the 90 i would have said at least 7 or 8)

I had to pinch myself a few times yesterday.

There was a mix of "for [****!!****] sake whats going on" and then a touch of reality as these are the same players who have got us to a play off place and at that point had gone 12 games unbeaten. From comments I heard and my own feelings it seems we are now expecting this side to do the business.......and we are no longer content with "survival" ?

Potters Bar never really troubled us in the first half with my only concern being that their number 7 Dean Harding was given so much time and space to run from his right back position. Potters Bar closed us down quite quickly and our final ball was often over complicated or over struck.

Appeared to be a clumsy challenge for the penalty but to be fair we raised the game after the second when I feel the players could sense (hear)the fans disappointment. They turned it around and we could have sneaked it with that goal line scramble. The lads will definitely need to be quick off the blocks for the Hornchurch game as I can't see Hx giving us any quarter and we definitely used one of our nine lives yesterday.

Big concern for Boxing day - I presume Dobbo was subbed because of injury - anyone know if he is ok?

Thigh injury I think. Thought Westy looked OK when he came on but not sure if we'll have Dave Kreyling back for Boxing Day.

Make all your points spot on Merv, not going to name players here but one or two players were not concentrating on positional play, get two or more doing that and it pulls the whole team out of shape. That is what stood out like sore thumb yesterday, we looked laboured, could be the case that the WAG near you was correct when she suggested that too many had been celebrating xmas before the game.

Now I will name a player and as always he ran & ran and gave his all Nick Rugg, for me needed a special mention and Crow who placed that special cross that no one else it seemed could manage.

For the Players: Lets hope common sense prevails for the boxing day game, ‘Try not to overdo the celebrations’ it sounds like we are going to have a massive attendance, good luck to all the players, do it for the CIFC supporters but more importantly for yourselves.
