Quite a coup for Stevenage. Maybe we'll get a pre season friendly against them.

The story i heard was that the Rec was/is owned by the Billings family who have been involved with Grays for years, the ground has some sort of covenant where it can`t be sold until Grays have a new home.

There are plenty of rumors that the ground has been sold to a development company who sponsor the club and that Grays will groundshare at a local club with Conference grading next season.

They would want to stay in the borough of Thurrock. If they move to Dagenham they could lose hundreds of fans.

Taken longer than i expected but Justin Edinburgh has now left/been sacked from Grays

Further to discussions between The Chairman and Justin Edinburgh where a proposal to restructure the clubs management was discussed Justin feels unable to continue with his duties as First Team Manager in a satisfactory way, as a result of this it has been mutually agreed between The Chairman and Justin to terminate his employment at Grays Athletic with immediate effect.

Another manager, another statement.

The club in the coming months finds itself in the most difficult position it has been in for many years having had to release players due to financial constraints and now, with the manager leaving, supporters are disillusioned as to the why these continuous changes are happening.

The club wish to reiterate that it is not preparing for demotion to the Conference South and believe that with the present squad plus the additions that have been made this week it is securing the future of the club within financial levels it can continue to afford.

The manager over the past months has made the decisions regarding players that were brought in and those that were let go or placed on the transfer list but the one constant that remained was those players that were contracted to the club.

It has now been decided and believed that the contracted players should play a pivotal roll in the clubs survival having not become bad players overnight.

Therefore until the end of the season Gary Phillips will take control of team matters and will be assisted by two senior players, Jamie Stuart and Stuart Elliot each of whom have the support of the Chairman and the remainder of the squad.

The Chairman, CEO and staff have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make the future of GAFC more attractive to all supporters but as everyone will realise it is difficult during these times and will take longer than initially anticipated because of delays out of our control and those which are in our control have had to be made to stabilise the club for the future.

One concern to the club is that of The New Recreation Ground and its tenure in terms of continuing to play there for at least one more season, then relying on the local authority to secure land, gaining planning permissions in order to move onto a new stadium.

The support over the last months by the loyal fans goes unquestioned but the club now urges all people of Grays to come and support the club in an effort to prove to the local authority that the club is alive and kicking , so wanting the help and commitment from the local authority to join with us as a partner to move Grays Athletic FC forward and into a new geographical position in Grays where supporters and their families want to come and be associated with football and community activities which can not be held at the present stadium due to the limited off-field accommodation and facilities.

Factors that we have to wait for can be accelerated by attendances increasing and activities at the club supported more which will show that supporters of the club care about its future.

If attendances and support continues to fluctuates as it is at present from 800's down to 400's it will show to the people in power that such a complex that is being muted may not happen due to this low level of support.

The Chairman of GAFC therefore asks all its supporters and followers to show their true allegiance to the club and attend, whenever and to whatever event is possible, in order to show that this move is both worthwhile and possible.

Understanding that recent releases have been questioned by supporters, I point to factors such as the Weymouth game which lacked passion and fight which has never been the brand of GAFC football, other games have been of a similar nature and if we are to go down I want to do so with the pride, passion and an inner belief of we did so fighting all the way.

I am of the opinion that what we have left will keep us in the Blue Square Premiere with the new additions to our squad and see the resurgence of other players already at the club pulling on the shirt once again and fighting in the proper fashion for the club and its supporters.

It is said during hard times we should all stick together and show a solidarity which generates feelings that have been missing at GAFC for some time.

So lastly let's see if we can show the support our players are going to need over the last part of the season and also show to the authorities that Grays Athletic Football Club needs a new home to move forward whilst securing our future in the Premiere Conference League for years to come

Please show your support for Grays Athletic Football Club

Many thanks

Mike Woodward

Chairman
