Tilbury 1 Hornchurch 2

A very welcome three points today to keep us on track and not only our first league win since 21st December but also our first goal since December 28th. However it was a battle, with the winning goal coming in the last couple of minutes from super-sub Craig Cripps.

The first half was goalless although we dominated, Steve Jones and Nathan Elder missing good chances in the first half hour. Tilbury, though finished slightly stronger and gave us a couple of scares in the final few minutes of the half.

11 minutes into the second half we made the breakthrough. A superb forward ball from Benstock found Jones who was brought down by Tilbury keeper John Folkard in the area and the referee awarded a hotly disputed penalty. Jones converted to make it 1-0 but 8 minutes later Tilbury equalised after Tilbury's Ricky Downs was brought down by Paul Wood - again hotly disputed. Jean-Marie Okita sent Wood the wrong way and it was 1-1. Then the drama really began. Tilbury's Darren McMeekin was sent off after receiving a second yellow card on 66 minutes and then three minutes later Tilbury's Billy Victory and our own Danny Cowley were dismissed after a clash on the half way line. Mick Marsden made a double substitution in the 82nd minute bringing on Craig Cripps and Steve Carter for Andrew Martin and Gavin McGowan and with barely a couple of minutes left Craig Cripps nodded home from a lofted ball into the area from Gary Kimble.

So plenty of pluses today. Goals, three points, the return of Danny Benstock and also that of Nick Lowery who came on right at the end.

Line-up: Wood, McGowan (Carter 82), Kimble, Jopson, Gooding, Marsden, Elder, Cowley, Jones (Lowery 90+), Martin (Cripps 82), Benstock. Subs not used: Fox, Kharine.

Excellent result for us and I must say a vastly improved performance. The best Urchins performance for several weeks and like you say, plenty of pluses from the game. First half we more or less totally dominated, Cowley (sending of apart) was superb, as to for me, was Nathan Elder. Full credit as ever to the boys at the back Gooding, Marsden and Joppo and a very good return as well for Danny Benstock. I personally think anything other than 3 points for us today would have been an injustice, I was not impressed with Tilbury at all, although, as in previous games thought we squandered far to many chances. If we continue to play as well as we did today, someone pretty soon is going to get a hiding off of us, just as soon as we really start converting those chances into goals. 4 home games on the trott now for us, lads, you know what it is like to win again, massive game for us on Tuesday. I see that we are now second but that Wealdstone have two games in hand on us. Just keep the winning up lads we will be beyond catching and within striking distance of Northwood. Up the Urchins!!!

Adam is not fit for Tuesday, if he was would you put him straight back in?? You are right Foxy is class and for the first 15 games this season was clearly our best player, but recently his form has dipped as all players at all levels do and the bench is the best place for him at the moment, he will come back to form and be back in the team soon I have no doubt about that.

The team should be picked on form and if we are going on this basis then the team if playing the same 3-4-3 formation should be :

Wood

Gooding (Class act)

Marsden

Jopson

Carter

Cowley

Benstock

Kimble

Cripps

Jones

Elder

Subs

Kharine,McDonald,Fox,Lowery,Martin.

what about joe naty and stowie, bang at it again on saturday in the reserves. Yes I know its a different level but Naty's scord at much higher levels than this and Stowie must be ready for the step up, hes scord 30 goals already this season.

I'd play 3-4-3 on tuesday and savage this lot, they need shaking off and six points from the two games with them will probably do it. Go for it Mick.

Did not do the job it was 0-0 at half time and Martin and McGowan were shocking with Martin being slightly than McGowan who contributes absolute zero to the team and looks so disinterested it is disheartening to those who give there all for the club when they do play, just have a look how much it meant to Craig Cripps when he got the winner saturday. Put in Carter on the right side at least he will give 120% unlike the 10% you get from McGowan.

Think that was very harsh. If you look at the Video of Cripsys goal Gav was the first one to join him in the celebrations. However I do agree that Carter has been great and Cripsy has been getting vital goals for us!

you are entitled to your opinion but I don't really think that you should be accusing players of not giving their all...from where I was standing he had a pretty good game considering that he was kicked all over the place....still...opinions are what the game is all about....

if you are going to accuse decent people (that have the full suport of the club) of cheating, I for one would prefer that you went and supported someone else...I usually get my own way which is why I suppose you will hide your accusations behind an anonymous post...in fact here's a better idea....why dont you tell gavin to his face...he's a rational kind of guy...he he...
