Mid-Essex: Football rivals in ground-share plan

Exclusive By Francis Ponder

Swifts are planning to move out of their current Scraley Road headquarters and purchase Maldon's Park Drive complex, owned by Town chairman and Madison Heights supremo Michael Kirkham.

But Swifts spokesman Tony Foster told the Evening Gazette: "The whole deal (believed to worth millions of pounds) hinges on the Ryman League Premier Division club being granted planning permission for their Scraley Road ground.

"A deal has been struck with all parties concerned for Heybridge Swifts to buy the Maldon Town complex and if everything goes to plan we would be looking to kick-off the 2008-09 season at our new ground."

heybridge resevres were over bowers last night. the impression they gave was that they'd be buying maldons ground with the money they make from selling their ground for development. part of the agreement is that they provide maldon with an essex senior league standard ground!!!
