Best after match losers statement is "it will help us to focus on our real target "

? the league

We owe Basingstoke having lost 1--2 at their place

You do not have to remind Canvey support to get behind the team they always do

Check out the team selection when we have lost (mostly to top 10 teams)and accordingly I fancy a real go at 1-4-4-2

Anyone know the latest news on Jeff M will he be fit for Tuesday?

I hope Jeff is back in action soon we're gonna miss him but I think Parms or Rudi could do the job while he's out.

Although I didn't like the manner in which we lost on Friday, I'm quite glad we did now...Yeovil away, again! No thank you!!!

from the echo website... should make for interesting viewing tonight

Soccer: King salutes battling Canvey

Canvey Island soccer boss Jeff King was in defiant mood after seeing his troops bow out of this season's FA Trophy at snowswept Wincham Park.

The 2-1 fourth round defeat by Nationwide Conference Northwich Victoria ended Gulls' hopes of matching their Trophy final success of two years ago.

But King was insistent that the positives of the night far outweighed the negatives.

"I thought we were superb," he said within minutes of the final whistle sounding.

"From a footballing point of view I thought we slaughtered them at times. Only in the finishing department, which is usually our strongest point, were we below our best.

"However, our dressing room is far from despondent -- everyone's on a high. I've told the players that we can build on a display like that to not only continue our Ryman Premier title challenge, but to go on and actually win the league.

"To a man all the players agreed with me. I thought Jeff Minton was the most skilful player on the pitch tonight and that Ben Chenery was magnificent in our defence.

"In fact, I was pleased with all my players. They were all up for it and their first goal was really lucky as the shot caught a wicked deflection and left our keeper Ashley Harrison no chance.

"I'm obviously bitterly disappointed at going out of the Trophy as this competition has come to mean a great deal to us over the past couple of years, but we can hold our heads high tonight."

According to tonight's Evening Echo, Jeff Minton's ankle injury is not as bad as first thought. It looks likely he will play tonight.

With Prothers injured and Benno suspended we're going to need him. If Rudi is fit I think he'll probably start and I can see Parms maybe getting a start.

I imagine big Gav Cowan will also return to the defence.

I have a feeling that Mark Brennan will play tonight. I don't know why he should, but I reckon he will.

I predict, (although I'm not very good at it) this will be tonight's line-up.

Harrison

Kennedy

Duffy

Chenery

Ward

Cowan

Brennan

Minton, (if not fit then Dobinson)

N. Gregory

Boylan

Parmenter

SUBS:

Berquez

Brayley

Davidson

Ruhanen

Potter

But our squad is so big that it could involve Forbes, Dave Gregory, Ross Johnson...

Yeah I reckon Brennan could play. It's a bit too much to ask Rudi to play that holding midfield role if he is not fully fit.

I would like to see Dobinson play in that role. He did well against Stortford last week considering he hasn't played for a while.

Get behind the lads tonight and let's see us make it 6 wins in a row.

I'm off for my usual pre-match pint (or maybe 2 or 3) of John Smith's!
