everyone looked up for it minton was class as always, and how does boylan make those [****!!****] diagonal runs to chop in front of defenders? total class and always working!!

ollie did well in place of greggors (big boots to fill)

parms J.K. etc etc chenners blah etc you get the picture everyone was in the frame.. but tonight my special mention goes to dobbers, solid and up for it.. it'll be hard to prise him from a starting place a grays!

Too right Canv! I said in a previous thread that Dobbers deserved a start and he was excellent tonight. He worked hard, won tackles, passed the ball superbly and looked good coming forward. A definite man of the match contender.

I have to admit I was a bit worried when I saw Greggors in the bar before the game but Ollie B came in and had an excellent game. He worked his socks off and scored two great headers and probably could have scored four. An able deputy for Greggors.

Boylan scored two great goals tonight, the second an absolute beauty, not bad considering he took a rather nasty knock in the first half.

Minton was awesome once again. A great piece of vision to spot Boylan for the first goal and a brilliant cross from Lee.

Jeff really deserved a goal tonight.

How Lee nipped in to score his second I don't know, the defender seemed to have it covered.

Duffers deserves credit for a great run and cross for Ollie's second. He gave it to him on a plate!

Big Gav was excellent at the back once again and Chenners and Wardy both had solid games.

I can't believe Basingstoke are as high as they are. They were very poor and was that Craig McAllister even playing. He did absolutely nothing, no wonder Southend want him.

Without the keeper it could have been seven or eight.

So many positives, everyone played well and I bet Stimmo and co must be very worried indeed.

Bring on the Grays, Canvey are back in town!!

CANV where was you standing tonight?!

I've given my Man of the Match to Dobinson also. It was a tough one to pick from Boylan & Dobbo and this time Merv & I didn't agree!!

Grays twice in four days is a looking nicely, second in the League can't be all bad and we deserved to thrash this lot tonight given our dreadful result at their place back in August!!

Oh and Bertie, stop giving me those looks!!!!

Well, sorry to disagree, but from where I was standing, goals aside, Boylan only really came to life AFTER he took the knock late on in the first half.(Mind you, I was at the other end from where he was doing his bit, and my contact lenses WERE frosted over!)

Can't decide on #1 spot, but my MEN of the match were Cowan, Dobinson, Berquez and Minton, whose actions every game must now be riding high on the Richter Scale.

JK excellent as usual but thought Duffy unusually subdued much of the time.

Hey Matt, I think you had better watch out. Wardy's on the warpath over your ratings for the Northwich game.

He says in his column in last night's programme:

"I read with interest like I always do at the reports on the web site and found it difficult to understand the contrast from what is seen on the terraces to what the team experience on the pitch. My gripe is more to do with the ratings which are a bit of fun I grant you but some of the comments by Matt I do not wholly agree with. Cheners, from what I saw, had an excellent game I don't remember Blundell the Conference leading scorer getting much change from him, yet the comments about him were, in my opinion incorrect as were some of the others. Oh yeah and about my 5/10..."

I don't think it is Bertie you should be worrying about, it's Chenners and Wardy!! I wouldn't want to be around when they get angry.

i have to say you have been the best team i have seem this season passing and movement simply outstanding and your finishes werent bad either.

We have a very very young squad so we knew a thrashing would come our way at least once this season, youve probably played us at the best time you could low on confidence after 3 straight defeats make that 4 now.

and as for Craig Mcallister he was injured and we missed him big time anyway if you play like this all season i envy you it really was a joy to watch and i do hope you go up this year.

Good luck

Pissed off Basingstoke fan.

Thanks James, To be honest although you were really dissapointing last night, you've done exceptionally well considering you have a very young squad and limited resources. You've had some good results this season against Shots, Albans and ourselves early this season and you must have exceeded all expectation.

The problem is people are starting to take notice of you and several clubs are looking at your youngsters (Mcallister in particular).

Good luck for the rest of the season and beat Shots for us!!

I am very happy to take any comments from the players, officials, supporters etc. be it positive or negative. It comes with the luxury of being part of the website team.

I give thanks to Wardy for him actually putting his comments in the programme, I myself haven't seen it but thanks for bringing it to my attention Dave.

I know there are several players who get a bit miffed at my ratings, (average is a 6), but that's my opinion and I get to express it on the website. It's no different from most of the posts on here and it's very rare that fans do not agree with my ratings. I will take any comments that come my way fairly, but it won't change my view of the performances.

In reply to Steve Ward's piece in last night's programme, I'm not at all surprised that the players see the game differently from the supporters. The opposing supporters see yet another game. What everyone has to realise is that we write the game as WE see it, Joe Public, standing on the terrace. If it's written honestly, then it's an honest report. Remember those match reports we used to get in the programme a few years back that had obviously gone through the censors before they were published?

Both Matt and I make ourselves known to the fans, the players and the management; we don't hide. We also stick our heads above the parapet on this discussion board. Point is, if anyone disagrees with us, please let us know. You can do it either in person or via these pages. Matt is right though, it's very rare that anybody disagrees with either the report or the ratings.

Having just re-read the Northwich report, I stand by everything I wrote. Duffers was so much better last night playing on the left and JK was simply magic playing wide. We were able to do something we couldn't on Friday, swing the ball from one flank to the other. The service from out wide was excellent and although we only scored one goal by that route, the very presence of players out wide drew the defence wide and that left room in the middle for the three other goals. That simply didn't happen often enough at Northwich.

If ever anybody wants to write an alternative match report or ratings (including Wardy), please email it to me (or Matt or Ian) and we will publish it on the website. mervyn@canveyfc.com or matthew@canveyfc.com or ian@canveyfc.com

None of us are journalists, but we do try our best to be both fair and honest.

Just carry on Merv

I love it when you agree with my own opinions and gain ever more satisfaction in the odd debatable issue

When football at any level gets to be less than individual opinions it will lose its magic for the (CIFC) circa 600 managers a week who attend
