I see from the Enfield Gazette that Cheshunt has now got a "B" grading.

Well done and jolly good luck to them, but I'm wondering how planning permission for the new 300 seat stand was obtained, when I thought the Laz-backed application for stands to an "A" grade was refused on the grounds of being in the green belt ? Or am I mistaken?

Unless I'm very much mistaken, who actually plays there is not a planning issue.

I assume CFC did apply for planing permission????

For anyone interested, here is a picture of the new Stand . Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought 'stands' had seats! (Bit like 1m walkways around pitches I suppose. )

Oh I see. I think.

You mean there aren't really 300 new seats?

Confused, of Enfield.

To be fair, the Mercury article doesn't mention seats - it just says "...it holds around 320..." Mid you, I've seen it and if Cheshunt ever did get 320 in there, it would be very cosy.

Hi bat! Long time no speak.

You and me both! Wouldn't be much room left after that. Ug!! What a thought!

I would add a witty comment which I know you would appreciate as you understand my 'humour' but I won't for fear of it being misconstrued. Things have been relatively civil lately and I have no wish to upset the applecart.

How's it going?

When will we hear you down the wood ? (The window of opportunity is rapidly diminishing!)

All the best.

I didn't read it in the Mercury, I read it in the Gazette. Presumably it is just a reporter's error when he/she said "seats" instead of "covered terrace for 300".

So I suppose planning permission was granted as the capacity has not been increased. Nevertheless, it is still development within the green belt.

Please don't misunderstand, I have nothing against Cheshunt or their desire to progress (or to return where they should be!). I am pleased for them and wish then all the best.

I should think you would be silent, Sonny boy !
What could I possibly think to say about that lovely fetching portrait of you.
Deffo not going down 'The Wood', but where you gonna be next season, assuming Laz don't get locked up, any news yet ??

Fruitbat, you must remember to click "Reply" on the post you're replying to. I assume you are talking to Derek J Bird. I mean, you could hardly have a portrait of me, could you?

To be honest, you couldn't say anything about my "lovely fetching portrait" that hasn't already been said - it's being doing the rounds for some time now (just ask Jorfan!)

Next season? Expect an announcement soon!

To answer an earlier post the 'stand' is at the side of the pitch. I'm not knocking - my 'local' club remember? I will be interested to see whether the capacity is changed for next season though - it is calculated in relation (10%) to the seats that are available.... aledgedly!

any increase to the capacity of 2500 would nee a safety certificate so this will not be increasing the figure,

Depends what you mean by "reconstructed" - I am not familiar with the structures at Cheshunt FC, having only ever been there once. I merely read in the press that there was a"new" stand.

Please refer to the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 for further information.

and I refer you to the press release

Official opening of the Kurtis Townsend Stand
By Jim Tuite, Cheshunt Football Club.

The Mayor of the Borough of Broxbourne, Cllr. David Manning, officially opened Cheshunts £5,000 [color:"orange"] covered terrace prior to their match with Witham Town last Saturday.

Named ‘The Kurtis Townsend Stand’, it is dedicated to the Cheshunt Player who was tragically killed whilst travelling to play for the Ambers in December 2001.

Holding 320 Spectators under cover, this [color:"orange"] reconstructed terrace will enable Cheshunt to obtain a ‘B’-grading for the Theobalds Lane Ground, which is a requirement of all Clubs seeking promotion to Division one of the Ryman League.

In his speech, the Mayor said Kurtis was “a talented and gifted young man” and “that by naming this Stand after him, future generations of Cheshunt Players and Supporters will see how much he was thought of and how deeply he was missed”.

Fair enough if you get the Mercury, which is where I presume this release appeared. But as has been said before, this did not appear in the Enfield Gazette and Advertiser, which is where the misleading description appeared. As I live in Enfield, that is the report I read.
