Where are they now? Your help needed.

I want to set up a new page on the Canvey website that will be a directory of former players, showing where they are playing (or not) now. The list would be alphabetical with just simple details of a players latest club, or if they have retired.

Obviously there are a lot of players who have simply moved from one Ryman club to another, for example the six or so who moved from Canvey to Grays, Paul Cobb who moved from Canvey to Braintree and Adedegi who moved from Canvey to Billericay. But there are a lot of other players who we don't hear about, especially those from a couple of seasons ago. Where are Alan Harding, Alan Brett, John Keeling?

This is where I need your help. If you have any information that you are reasonably certain of, please would you either post it here, or better still, email me directly at mervyn@canveyfc.com

I realise that I will get all the comedians from other clubs who will try a spoiler exercise, but I think it will eventually be a good page on the website.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please don't be put off by thinking, "I bet everyone has posted this information." It is easier for me to edit out the duplicates than try to put a page together with half the information missing.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff Brazier plays for Jade Goody!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Steve Warner played against us sometime last season, I can't remember who it was for though and I heard a rumour a while back that David Kerslake has joined Spurs as a coach - maybe at a higher position than Stimmo!!!

I've got it!! I just looked back on our website! Steve Warner played for Bowers Utd in the 1999/2000 season, don't know if he's still there!

Peter Taylor - Brighton & Hove Albion Manager

Jeff King - CIFC Manager

Kieth Dublin - Carshalton Athletic

Carl Bartley - Dartford

Does Michael Gilkes count too? I know he only played one friendly for us but he's now at Slough.

Oi! Dave, I've just had a look on the Carshalton website apparently you play for them!!!

Hmm Plays up front for the youth team, has plenty of energy and a great first touch. Not me afraid! I'm too old for the youth team. The only time I have plenty of energy and a great first touch is when the pubs open!

Apparently there was a Dave Powell who played up front for Gravesend during the late 90s and was a bit of a legend.

There was also a David Powell up at Burnley who was a reporter for The Times newspaper. Merv & me were sitting next to him in the press box at the back of the main stand.

If you look back at our Burnley match report you'll notice he nominated Man of the Match too!

Sorry if this post seems a bit strange but I was typing away when Sinclair scored for West Ham and I nearly knocked a cup of coffee over my keyboard celebrating. Oh well only another 45 minutes to hold on!!

Yeah I 've still got that report from the Times that I printed off the internet. Again that's not me unfortunately. I'm more of a Daily Mail man.

If you go to the 'Best Canvey XI' page on the website. The squad for the last 5 or 6 seasons is at the bottom of the page. Unfortunately it only has players' last names so I can't remember them all, but they may ring a bell to some!!!

Oh I've come up with another one!

Trevor Paul - Bishop's Stortford

Here's another one I've remembered! I'm not looking these up honest!!

After being released by us Clark Hunt went to Chalfont St. Peter, but he was released by them last season.

Julian Dicks - Retired from Football

Liam Bright has been around a bit too, can't remember where he is at the minute though and where the hell is Steve Clark? He was last seen at Aylesbury but seems to have vanished!!

Alex Ingethorpe I believe is still Player/Manager of Leatherhead.

Ashley Nicholls scored in the FA Cup this season but I can't remember who for. I don't think he's still at Ipswich!

This is going to boost my post count a bit!!

Liam Bright's at Brentwood at the moment along with Dave Stittle who I think was an ex Canvey player.

Rikki Finning is now at East Thurrock and I don't think Gary Ansell has been mentioned who is currently playing for Billericay.

I seem to remember John Keeley (our goalkeeper against Brighton) was a taxi driver on the Island but I haven't seen him around lately.

Still recovering from the West Ham game, I needed a large Vodka after that!!

Ashley Nicholls plays for Darlington, scored a great goal against Southend I seem to remember.

On a more infamous note the legendary Dean Greygoose plays for Kings Lynn.

It's amazing this internet you know, we wouldn't know half the stuff we do about our ex-players if it wasn't on here!

We'd be phoning round all the non-league clubs "Do you have any ex-Canvey Island players in your current squad?"

If you go on the Non League Paper website they are selling a book that's a directory of all the players in the non-league (an A-Z who's who).

It was compiled by one of the guys who works for the non league paper, Whitney. It's £9.99 plus postage and packing and you can order it through the site. You may be able to buy it in the shops, possibly Waterstones.

I think Merv may find it useful.
