Enfield 1-0 Southend Manor

E's welcomed back Anthony Anstead in goal ,Wes Borghys & Lee Benmore were rested ,Wayne Grant was cup tied .Chris Green returned in defence after injury .

First chance of the game was after 9 mins when Southend's Martin Stanton-Hope shot over Anthony Anstead's crossbar. A Jack Coomes effort was well taken by Southend keeper Adam Seal .A good try by Jack Coomes went over Adam Seal's crossbar on 18 mins . A shot on the turn by Southend's Matt Crumbie was narrowly wide on 23 mins.Ibby Oladeji's fine solo run ended when his shot was blocked as he tee'd up. Another chance for Southend as Ross Webster headed wide from a corner . Kevin Riley's corner for E's was headed inches wide by Jack Coomes ,On 31 mins Deniz Mehmet puts one over the southend crossbar . (E's sub Kevin Riley limps off and Adilson Lopes replaces him 33 mins) From Graeme Butler's corner Jack Coomes heads wide on 35 mins . Graeme Butler's freekick just went wide on 41 mins . A brilliant head clear by Chris Green following a dangerous cross and Chris Green again heads clear another dangerous ball in . A shot by Deera okolie was deflected wide .Graeme Butlers freekick find Ibby Oladeji but he puts it wide .Anthony Anstead saves well from a Matt Crumbie effort . H/T

2nd half. Sherwin Stanley was just beaten to the ball in a 1 on 1 with Adam Seal on 48 mins . A freekick for Southend was blazed over the top by Andy Lilleker on 54 mins . A mistake by Southend centre half Chris Wilson let in Sherwin Stanley but Adam Seal reacted well to save from point blank range on 56 mins. A good save by Adam Seal denies Jack Coomes . A Graeme Butler corner was met by Jack Coomes but his header went wide. Graeme Butler's inswinging corner looked to be drifting home but Adam Seal just managed to tip the ball over. Graeme Butler fed a ball across Southend's back line with the Southend defence all rooted waiting for the offside flag which never came Adilson Lopes shot wildly over . (Southend sub Aaron Baldwin on for Adam Hockley 69 mins ) Adam Seal again wins a 1 on 1 this time against Adilson Lopes . But on 76 mins the deadlock was finally broken as some nifty footwork by Sherwin Stanley evaded two Southend players and with a perfect cross to Adilson Lopes he made no mistake from six yards to put E's ahead. A nasty clash of heads between Deera Okolie & Graeme Butler had them both down needing treatment ,A good cross from Deera Okolie and Jack Coomes heads wide on 84 mins . A shout for a Southend penalty was waved away by Referee Mr Garwood as Aaron Baldwin went tumbling from Chris Green's challenge. A shot by Andy Lilleker was blocked on 90 mins .

Bit of a legend at the Town is "Supa Kev" & appeared to be JC's prodigal son in his time with us, JC played him in every position except keeper, which some of the Town faithful.....OK ME!........found frustrating.

However Kev always gave 110% for us & wont let you down.

It use to be a chant by the Southbury Road faithful, I remember in a game against Wokingham that EFC won 6-1 both Gary Abbott & Richard Cherry scored hat-tricks, in fact as RC beat the defender for his third goal he waved to him as he went past him, anyway at the final whistle all the kids run on the pitch & surrounded him as he went off, leaving the legend that is Gary Abbott trudging off alone after scoring a hat-trick (3 of about 30 odd goals that season).
Its on a compilation video of the season (I think 94/95, Jim Cunneen will confirm or deny Im sure) it makes great viewing.
