Bore Draw Not The Most Inspiring Start For Tigers

The Mayor Of Simpleton

Twenty four hours ago, I was relieved that this game was definitely on. Now I am beginning to wonder why the heck I bothered.

After Gloucester City's game against Brislington was called off on Saturday (correct choice, by the way, as their pitch was unplayable), it was tonight that the Tigers got their pre-season underway at neighbours Cinderford Town who play in the Southern League South & West division, two leagues below the Tigers.

The Tigers fielded new signing Lewis Hogg, who joined up with former Bath City team-mate Darren Edwards upfront, and hopes were that the Tigers would have a comfortable win against their hosts.

Alas, it was Cinderford who looked the better side in the first half. Good passing and quick thinking meant that they exposed the Gloucester back-line, and only some good defending and goalkeeping stopped Cinderford from sneaking ahead.

Gloucester wasted their chances, when presented with them, and despite pressuring more in the second half could not force an opening goal. Edwards was unlucky in front of goal, but Will 'Morph' Morford is definitely on borrowed time as he lost focus and concentration - being picked off easily by the Cinderford players.

I know that friendlies do not count for much, but this was a poor performance by a side who should have recorded a win and clean sheet tonight. If this is a taster of what is to expect this season, it will be back to the Southern League for us in 2013-14.

Good to see some familiar faces in the crowd - Chairman Nigel Hughes and Shayne Bradley (former player with the Tigers, now involved in their Youth prograame) were stood near me and one ex-Tiger turned out for Cinderford in the form of Lee Smith. Very lively and will surely get 20+ goals for Cinderford this season.
