  1. Let's continue to use this thread for the re-arranged Fourth Round ties on Saturday. Coventry Sphinx have done quite well in the competition in the past, reaching the Quarter Finals in 2007/08 and the Fifth Round as recently as last season (2021/22), they have never met a SSML Club before since first entering the competition in 2002/03 (sorry Karen):
  2. Unfortunately both Quarter Final ties were called off on Tuesday evening, they try again next month with, I believe, both winners locking horns in one of the Semi Final ties: Tuesday 17 January Bedfordshire FA Senior Challenge Cup Quarter Finals Arlesey Town P Bedford Town (now Tuesday 14 February) Kempston Rovers P Potton United (now Tuesday 7 February)
  3. Thame United Reserves and Chalgrove Cavaliers try yet again next Tuesday, 24 January, for the right to join Charlton United Reserves, Headington Amateurs and 'big boys' Oxford City Under 21's in the Semi Finals of the competition: Tuesday 17 January Oxfordshire FA Intermediate Cup Quarter Final Thame United Reserves P Chalgrove Cavaliers
  4. The attractive programme cover from the tie, congratulations to Eaton Socon for reaching the Final of the Division One Cup where they will meet Holmer Green or Ampthill Town:
  5. Unfortunately the tie was postponed again and is re-arranged for next Tuesday, 24 January, at Spratleys Meadow according to Full Time. What a huge incentive for Amersham Town with Milton Keynes Dons awaiting the eventual winners of the much delayed tie: https://www.sportsshots.org.uk/2023/01/19/2022-3-berks-bucks-mens-senior-cup-quarter-final-draw-announced/ Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup Quarter Final draw Beaconsfield Town v Reading FC Flackwell Heath or Amersham Town v Milton Keynes Dons Bracknell Town or Newport Pagnell Town v Wycombe Wanderers Hungerford Town v Maidenhead United or Marlow FC
  6. Frustratingly all three First Round (Quarter Final) ties were postponed last night giving beleaguered Karen a fixture headache: West Hertfordshire St Mary's Cup First Round Tring Athletic v Berkhamsted Raiders (tbc) Oxhey Jets v Bovingdon (tbc) Leverstock Green v Chipperfield Corinthians (now Tuesday 24 January, kick off 7.45pm) Harpenden Town v Amersham Town (Tuesday 31 January, kick off 7.45pm)
  7. I don't know what has happened to episodes 38 and 39 of Karen's Inane Ramblings (From Up Noorf)', perhaps she went on strike like the nurses, however here is episode 40 covering all the fixtures that took place on Saturday 7 January and episodes 41 and 42 combined, due to all the postponements, covering the four midweek fixtures that were played on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 January and the eight fixtures that took place last Saturday, 14 January: https://www.sportsshots.org.uk/2023/01/15/2022-3-ssmfl-inane-ramblings-from-up-norff-40-saturday-7th-january/ https://www.sportsshots.org.uk/2023/01/18/2022-3-ssmfl-inane-ramblings-from-up-norff-41-42-tues-10th-sat-14th-january/
  8. A groundhopper from another Forum was in attendance: Moulton 1-4 Eaton Socon Spartan South Midlands League Div 1 Cup Semi-Final Admission: £5 Attendance: 122 Prog: £2, 20 glossy pages Good game, which was just as well given the temperature. It all started in fine fashion and the visitors soon went two up, before getting a little scrappy. The second half began well with Moulton pulling a goal back and looking like they might make a game of it. Good defending by Eaton Socon though and some tidy football on the break to wrap it up. Not much to say about the ground. A 3G cage, no access to one end, a single kit stand on the near side, dugouts far side and only flat standing elsewhere. Fortunately the smart Clubhouse was warm, and sausage rolls and hot drinks were available at the bar. The prog mentioned that Moulton will soon be replacing their current throw-away cups (they use 300 each week) with re-usable plastic cups which will have a £2 refundable deposit.

  20. Fingers crossed that the delayed Flackwell Heath v Amersham Town Second Round tie will finally go ahead this evening:
  21. A good win for Leighton Town Development at Bedfordshire County League Premier Division Caldecote on Saturday, a groundhopper from another Forum was at the Second Round tie. Leighton Town Development now travel to Queens Park Crescents next Saturday (21 January) for their Quarter Final tie, kick off 2.00pm: Caldecote AFC 0 - 2 Leighton Town Development (HT 0 - 0) The Playing Fields, Harvey Close, SG18 9BQ Beds Co Premier v Spartan SML 2 - both Step 7 Beds FA Senior Trophy - KO 2pm Attendance - est HC 27 and 2 dogs Free admission, No programme, Tea £1.30 I had wanted to go to an FA Vase game today at Biggleswade United, but the weather had other ideas. Whilst checking social media I saw that this was one of the few games still on, despite being on grass. Just to the West of the A1, this is also my nearest Step 7 ground I had yet to visit. The weather had a few periods of dry, with a show of blue sky, but it drizzled for at least 3/4 of the match. There is a small car park at the sports centre, and the cricket outfield overlaps the main football pitch, a couple of childrens play areas, a separate building from the main Clubhouse housed the changing rooms, and the main Clubhouse is down the near touchline. There is some covered standing outside the Clubhouse, but 9 people and it was crowded. A lot of people were inside the Clubhouse watching the Man City v Man U game and they did a brisk trade at the bar during half time. Both teams seemed evenly matched in the first half, both goalkeepers called upon to make saves and the rain made the playing surface very greasy/slippy. Caldecote were awarded a penalty in the first half which the Leighton Town goalkeper saved and he also deflected the rebound that was on target. During the second half Caldecote appeared to tire and the first goal was scored in the final 10 minutes with the second goal at about 88 minutes. I haven't seen an official attendance yet and the Beds FA and Full Time website appear to have named the visitors as Leighton Town Reserves but I think it is the same team.
  22. The midweek fixtures: Tuesday 17 January (kick off 7.45pm unless stated) Premier Division Harpenden Town v Dunstable Town London Colney v St Panteleimon Risborough Rangers v Shefford Town & Campton Stotfold v Hoddesdon Town Division One Ampthill Town v Northampton Sileby Rangers Raunds Town v Burton Park Wanderers Wellingborough Whitworth v Langford Winslow United v Rushden & Higham United SSML Challenge Trophy Second Round Leighton Town v New Bradwell St Peter SSML Division One Cup Semi Final Moulton FC v Eaton Socon Bedfordshire FA Senior Challenge Cup Quarter Finals Arlesey Town v Bedford Town Kempston Rovers v Potton United Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup Second Round Flackwell Heath v Amersham Town Oxfordshire FA Intermediate Cup Quarter Final Thame United Reserves v Chalgrove Cavaliers West Hertfordshire St Mary's Cup Quarter Finals Oxhey Jets v Bovingdon (kick off 7.30pm) Leverstock Green v Chipperfield Corinthians Tring Athletic v Berkhamsted Raiders
  23. A lengthy wait to the next League fixture although Real Bedford travel to AFC Caddington next Saturday (21 January) in a Bedfordshire FA Senior Trophy Quarter Final tie, kick off 2.00pm, unfortunately no live stream for the Club's thousands of overseas fans to enjoy:
  24. What has gone so horribly wrong at The Brache of late:
  25. This sounded like a decent affair, a good point for Sarratt:
