  1. Peter Dutton added to list - thanks Peter
  2. Thank Simon, thanks Kimble - If I get enough 'memories' I will include them in the Supporters Section of the History which is almost ready to publish. I would like a few more as there is not yet enough to fill a couple of pages, or more. Ann, Pete, David, Jordan, Jago, Andy, and anyone else's memories are more than welcome. Kimble - can you let me know your name please, as I don't want to put nom-de-plumes in the History unless I have to. So best / worst moments, players, it's basically your memories of AFC Hornchurch, from the ESL to the current season. Out History is not just about what we achieved on the field, it is about the supporters as well. So let's have some more contributions please.
  3. With the name change to Hornchurch FC rapidly approaching, what are you best memories of the time when we were known as AFC Hornchurch? Best match / achievement and why. Favourite player / personality and why. Best / worst experience and why. The period covered is from our Essex Senior League days to the current season - Arlesley can also be included, as it was arguably the start of AFC Hornchurch. Plenty of scope here, and as many as possible will be included in our forthcoming History.
  4. Colin McBride, Laura Purcell and Jimmy McFarlane all added to list. Thank you.
  5. Here is what I have got so far - (Apologes for the poor quality of the formatting). Nette was here in 08-09 but when Nette and they left and Colin took over I am not sure if there was ever any award made for PoY. YEAR SUPPORTERS PLAYERS 2005-06 Danny Cowley Glen Golby 2006-07 Jim McFarlane Jim McFarlane 2007-08 Elliot Styles John Purdie 2008-09 MISSING - MISSING 2009-10 Darren Behcet PLAYERS PLAYER - MISSING 2010-11 Elliot Styles - PLAYERS PLAYER - MISSING 2011-12 Joe Anderson Joe Anderson 2012-13 Alex Bentley Alex Bentley 2013-14 Rickie Hayles Rickie Hayles 2014-15 George Purcell PLAYERS PLAYER - MISSING 2015-16 George Purcell George Purcell 2016-17 Leon McKenzie Kenzer Lee 2017-18 Nathan Cooper Nathan Cooper 2018-19 Alex Bentley George Saunders
  6. I have a record of Players of the Year from 2005-06 onwards, but I am missing two seasons. In 2005-06 it was Danny Cowley (Supporters) and Glen Golby (Players choice). In 2006-07 Jim McFarlane won both players and supporters choices. But I do not have the PoY results from 2008-08 and 2008-09 - can anyone help with these two seasons. Who won the Supporters and Players Player of the Year in those two seasons?
  7. Robert Peppiatt added to list - Thank you
  8. The subscription list for the OFFICIAL HISTORY OF AFC HORNCHURCH will close at the end of the AGM, 9th May. if your name is already on the list and you have not yet paid, could you pay Fred Hawthorn at the AGM please? For anyone who wants to subscribe, you can do so at the AGM - speak to Fred. The price is £12 and you will get the History at that price. the History will be published in July and the selling price is £15, unless you have already subscribed and paid £12. As a bonus for anyone who has pre-paid, if you give me a memory stick, you will also get the complete history of Hornchurch FC, which covers the period from 1923 to the end of the Conference South season. The History will also include over 30 colour photos, and over 150 Player Profiles - every player who made ten or more appearances is included, plus quite a few who have made less than ten appearances.

  10. Max Mark Weston Mark Saunders All added to list - thank you
  11. Isthmian Premier - DOWN- three out of Wingate, Whitehawk, Burgess Hill and Harlow - my guess is that Whitehawk will stay up. Isthmian Premier - UP - Dorking (so that is one plastic pitch less) - too many clubs still in with a chance of making the play offs - Haringey or Carshalton seem the most likely. Isthmian North - UP - Bowers - plus one from Maldon, Aveley, Coggeshall or Heybridge. My guess is Aveley. Isthmian North - Down - two out of Witham, Romford, Mildenhall. Will Romford again make the Great Escape? Isthmian South - UP - Cray - plus one from Horsham, Hastings, Ashford, Haywards Heath. Isthmian South - DOWN - Thamesmead (disbanded) plus either Guernsey or Greenwich. Conference South - DOWN - Of the three going down, only East Thurrock will go into the Isthmian Premier. Conference South - UP - Torquay, with three Essex clubs all possibly in the play-offs - Chelmsford, Billericay and Concord, though Woking are likely to be favourites.
  12. HISTORY UPDATE We intend to include at least 40 colour photos in the History, more if possible. The price of the History is likely to be £15 - but anyone who has paid £12 will get the book at the reduced price. The subscription list will remain open until the Supporters Association AGM in May. If your name is on the list of subscribers and you have not yet paid, please call in at the Club Shop and Fred will give you a receipt for you payment. If there is any player whose photo you want to be included, please let me know.

With the season now entering its run-in, the Club Shop is holding its Change-of-Name / Easter Sale, which is exactly the same as an end-of-season sale, but since Easter is so late in the calendar this year, and our name likely to be changed from AFC Hornchurch to Hornchurch FC, we are calling it our Change-of-Name / Easter Sale. For £5, you can have one of our red and white woollen retro scarves, plus our AFC Hornchurch metal badge, and a mini-scarf. Other prices have also been reduced for the remainder of the current season - Replica shirts - now £35 for adult sizes and £30 for junior sizes. 23. (With thanks to Max for sending me the link). And a question - Is it not about time that we returned to player management rather than management by yellow (and red) cards? The Leatherheqd blog starts here - I am not sure if there was a murder on the Orient Express or a suicide yesterday as Leatherhead ran out of steam when facing 10 man AFC Hornchurch. The ref made the game impossible for us to win as early as 10 minutes when he sent off a Hornchurch player. It was seemingly innocuous; the ball was running out of play and the striker lashed out at the defender a bit. He probably thought it was far too early in the game to be sent off for this, but he had picked on the wrong ref. Regular visitors to the Grove will know playing against 10 men usually signal disappointment, but when we carved out a goal - a nice move down the left, low cross, fumbled into the path of Travis - we could dare to dream we could pull off the impossible. 1-0, playing against 10 men... no need to concentrate on set pieces, it will be fine. Alas no, the defence being the sleepers in this instance to allow a completely free header to make it 1-1. Into the second half and the ref took centre stage. He started blowing his whistle for everything and booking anyone in sight. Shaun was booked for persistently trying to get the ball, their no 2 booked for a two footed - two footed! - tackle, I was booked for inappropriate tweeting and some birds were booked for persistent migrating. Now, we only have ourselves to blame here. Had we maintained our lead, or even built on it, the ref's breaking up of play would have been just the ticket. As it was, it only added to our frustration and in doing so allowed AFC Hornchuch the space to score a second and take all three points.
  24. Caliing any ex-Thurrock supporters. Come into the club shop - it's on the slope to the right as you go towards the social club - and for £5 you can have an Urchins red and white woollen scarf and an AFC Hornchurch badge, and if you ask nicely you can have a mini scarf as well. Did you support Thurrock when they were known as Purfleet? Or as Essex Sports? Or as Fondu?
  25. Mike - I will ask Norman Posner, as you suggest. I think the most likely answer is that the county cup matches have not been included, as it seems that 200 is the correct figure.
