IMO a far bigger problem than immigration is foreign investors (speculators) from Asia who are forcing property prices and rents to unaffordable levels, and taking profits away from the UK With regard to older people, while we have paid for our comfortable retirement, I can understand the resentment that the younger generation feel towards us.

I'm sure that's what UKIP and the Daily Mail would want us to believe - the truth is however that immigration generates a net positive income for the country http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24813467

Yes, there's a problem with people who have no intention to work trying to come over here and claim benefits but that will be a minority of people coming over.

Successive governments have underinvested in new housing forcing people to rent - this has meant that speculators have bought up houses with a view to renting out knowing they will get a better return than the current interest rates. This started with Thatcher allowing people to buy their own council homes - even Nigel Lawson (the chancellor at the time) now admits that was a mistake.
Unfortunately, the problem tends to be an ageing population in this country. We need to look at how we can sustain the older generation and if possible help them to help themselves (I don't mean what we do currently and ignore them to an extent). We need to look at maybe how Sweden deals with this as they seem to do well at that sort of thing.

I'm all for rehabilitation for people who have served their time and can move on - not for rape though.
The victim will have a life sentence, the convicted person walks out after a few years and carries on his life as though nothing happened?
Not justifiable for me, I'm afraid.

Think we're in for a brutal time in cuts in public spending going forward - would have preferred more new affordable home building rather than stamp duty cuts.

If Tesco covered that up and it got out, it would be adverse publicity for them (Ched Evans is a key example of the reaction from the public).
They are already losing sales due to Aldi/Lidl.

Regardless of what is right or wrong on this subject, I personally think they would be foolish to take the chance.

Really, pulling up trees? A review of a school play?
You are still as big a tit as you ever were. And she's not OUR heroine, she's yours. She's a convicted murderer.

It was ever only going to be a two horse race, so I would imagine quite a few traditional labour voters voted tactically to embarrass the Tories. As non of the gutter press will be backing UKIP its highly unlikely they will be able to keep their momentum going, and hopefully they will be exposed as the nasty party they really are.

He was convicted in a court of law for what can only be described as a disgusting crime.
Personally, I don't think the sentence was harsh enough.

As for playing football again, if he clears his name then okay otherwise you need to look at the severity of the crime and decide if the club really wants to employ someone with that record. I don't think a convicted rapist would be allowed to work where I work, I think it would unsettle the female workers for starters.

Yes, there are girls that may try it on, but the clubs should make sure that they drum it into the players that they need to be careful about their behaviour and they are not above the law. I believe that some players feel that they are above the law and can do anything they want knowing the clubs will employ expensive lawyers to get them out of trouble if it comes their way.

A very good statement by the club.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Mr Evans has returned to full match fitness.

Very lucky to get away with so little, I tend to think that rapists should get life, abusers get 10 to 15 hard labour. Of course, theirs no hard labour anymore. Some evil people have been involved with this Elm Guest House Crowd, some of their names are well known, you only have to look around the net to find out some household names that will make your toes curl. I should imagine a lot of them are hoping, and also desperately using all their contacts within government and the civil services to hopefully 'let sleeping dogs lie'. It's very much in theirs and the people who have hidden them for decades interests, indeed I'm very suspicious of why anyone would want to let it lie.

Well I knew I could count on you Alan to make the thread personal!

We sold the Buble tickets for 4 times the face value if I remember correctly. The Rolinng Stones ones we got two and a half times the face value. I have wondered at times whether I could have made a good living from doing that.

How dare you insult the two Queens of British Music, Kate Bush and Sir Elton. We spent a lovely Summer's afternoon with a picnic and a bottle listening to the likes of Crocodile Rock and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the grounds of some stately home or other.

I think that we get too caught up with leaders, we really need to concentrate on the policies and the direction that the government/opposition wants to take the country.
I don't think that any of the main political parties are doing that, they are so caught up in focus groups and opinion polls that they fail to put a cohesive set of policies together.

Clement Atlee was a pretty ineffectual speaker and was hardly an Inspirational figure but the Post-WW2 Labour government did a hell of a lot of good things.

Interesting comment made by Caroline Lucas the Green Party's MP for Brighton
"It wasn't the poor who caused the economic crisis. It wasn't people on Jobseekers Allowance who brought down the banks. It wasn't people with disabilities who wasted £billions gambling on risky financial markets. That's why we say stop punishing the poor".

It would be totally illegal, so as you are a responsible and proud Englishman can we take it for granted that you will supply the police with names and addresses, and let us know how you get on..

It's clearly meant as a wind-up Alan. I don't think anyone in their right mind would seriously suggest that we punish people financially just because they are disabled.

Not hard times for everyone. All most people are asking for is a more equatable distribution of wealth, and half decent wages and terms and conditions of employment. Zero hours contracts and agency work fail to meet that criteria.
