hammer59 got a reaction from E&E Rich in Saturday 28th February Match Thread
Chris, yes, we did speak that morning. I must admit it was a bit earlier that I would have expected but if it's off it's off, so I just accepted it and it gave me loads of time to organise training and the rest of my day. I've got no idea about anyone questioning the league, but it certainly was not me.

E&E I assume you are referring to our game Saturday when you mention twitter. I don't do twitter but can only assume that one of our lads who was helping out Saturday morning expressed his views after he had heard it was off. I was expecting the game to go ahead from what I had been told, but did not see the pitch so cannot comment.

Problem is getting the timing/decision right. Do it early and you get questioned as to why you didn't wait, which is something that has come up regularly on this forum. Leave it late or don't bother at all and get grief if it gets called off by the match referee.

For the recent Ashford game we had two inspections and the pitch was passed - it wasn't great - so we went ahead. The match referee was made aware of the situation but when he arrived (late) he deemed the pitch unplayable and called the game off. Ashford did make comments about why the game wasn't called off by the referee who inspected it but we could do nothing about it. Once passed we could not then call the game off.

We try and get every game on, regardless of any player availability or form, as the club is reliant on the income we get from home first team games. February was a complete washout for us.

Tomorrow we hopefully host Badshot Lea in the Surrey cup, and they already know that Thursday has been pencilled in should the game not go ahead, but we are hopeful that it will.

Anyway, sorry Chris if someone questioned you but, as you said, we just move on.

Look forward to seeing you both on a Wednesday in April.

    Cheers.

Molesey v Chertsey is off unfortunately.Lot of work trying to get it on but it failed the second inspection.

Funny how people sitting at home complain when this happens and don't appreciate the hard work put in by certain individuals in an effort to get the game played, only to be thwarted by the weather.

FA Website said A v A,more importantly presume you will get the 3 pts,but with it being so tight at the Top.Goal difference could be a decider,do they give you any goals as well as the points?

To be honest I'm not sure. A few years ago Croydon cried off and we got nothing except the game played later in the season on a Wednesday night and we only drew that one. I suppose the fact that team sheets - well ours at least - had been handed in and the lads were literally coming in from the warm up, plus the referee had told us that the game was going ahead as they had the minimum requirement to start - could mean that they would give us the points. However, my recollection from the past is that it would be something like a 2-0 which, with due respect, we would have hoped to have bettered on the day anyway. Certainly had the game gone ahead with the seven men we would have been disappointed with 2-0. Problem is that, whilst goal difference could come into it, should we have to play them later this season they may be in a better position team-wise, as they appear to have at least one excellent candidate looking for the job (Don't ask me to disclose any names).
We feel that effectively the game was live and should have gone ahead under FA rules - remember they ultimately refused to play - so the points should go to us and the goal difference is something we will have to deal with by trying to win games that are coming up.

If they had seven they should have played shouldn't they?

As above, yes. Let's make it clear though, the lads there on the day are not the culprits and it possibly wasn't a very enticing prospect having to go out and play a game in such circumstances. However, rules are rules, but we will see what happens when the management committee meet up.

At least it was not too bad a day elsewhere for us as far as certain results went, I just hope we get the chance to take out our frustrations on Tuesday night against Epsom in the Surrey Senior Cup.

I'd rather be involved with a team that play to their strengths than one that try to get players sent off all the time -

looking at your current record - and you have actually commented on this yourself - I don't think people have had to try that hard to get your players sent off.

See you tomorrow, weather permitting, should be a good game.

Smudge, you need to let go of that bone! The person you state as being NG/BG is not the one, as he attends virtually all of our games, so could not possible be attending the matches in question. We have trained the last two Saturdays and been back at the club after so he certainly was not at the games, whereas NG/BG obviously was. Unfortunately, your determination that he is the one has had the normal effect on people ignorant of the actual facts - FARCICAL - and they jump on your bandwagon and make themselves look stupid with their comments.

With regard to Camberley, or any other team, and their style I cannot understand the problem people have. If you are a supporter you can make your own choice. If you are the opposition it is up to the manager to choose how to play against your opponents and decide whether you stick with your system week in week out, or adapt for specific games/opposition. I either watch myself or have a scout watch every opponent that we have played this season, so have an idea of the various styles of play. We then deal with that and hopefully get a positive result and if we don't get that we will look at ourselves rather than moan about the opponents style. As for our style, it is certainly not special, but we work hard on and off the pitch and so far this seems to be working. Today is effectively the start of the second phase of the season, so that could all change, certainly not the hard work but possibly the rewards we get.

Final note on Camberley. I think we play them towards the end of the season, at home, and I honestly hope that both of us are still in with a shout of the title because it will be a cracking game and one really worth watching.

Smudge, not sure what your issue with the club itself is. The pitch has been moved up a bit. The houses are now mostly built and some up for sale. We have some new lights, new fencing and the place does look a lot tidier all round. Not sure about the improvements being "lauded" but the process has made it possible for the club to continue. You would not begin to understand what some of the people have gone through over the last 10 years or so, and certain individuals have worked harder to keep the club going than many of us would ever know and certainly done this purely for the sake of the club and community. Their efforts deserve more than snide comments being made from the keyboard of a laptop but unfortunately this is all part of life now.

Anyway, off to have a shower and get ready for our game with Spelthorne which should be a good one. Now, where are those notes?

Definitely a game of two halves and well contested all night by both teams. One allegedexpert suggested it was game over at half time as Windsor didn't have what it takes to get back into the game!

Not sure about your suspicions Smudge, but the chap you seem to think is BG was not
there with me at the game.

Also add my thanks to Ashford who were, and always are, very welcoming. You don't oftenget invited into the boardroom when on a spying mission but Alan and his colleagues aretop people and were, as ever, generous with their hospitality.

hammer59 got a reaction from Smudge in Eversley planning consent
I must say we discussed this amongst ourselves following the email from the league. It seems like a done deal, but it is strange that the Premier will now be an odd number and Division 1 even, a bit like the tail wagging the dog. With certain teams not having lights I would have thought dealing with odd numbers in Division 1 would be easier.
My view to our club was that I felt for Eversley and thought the league could have given them this season to try to turn the ruling on lights around. A deadline of 31st December, or maybe March 2015, with prior knowledge that failure resulted in relegation without appeal would at least have rewarded the promotion and given them half a chance to secure Premier status.
Clubs have been given leeway in the past, ourselves included two seasons ago.
Also, lights are not used that much prior to October or after March, so the restrictions imposed could maybe have been allowed to stand just for the 2014-15 season.
Finally, if they are not being accepted into the Premier division, there is no doubt that there were only two relegation places for the league to allocate, so Ash must surely have grounds for a successful appeal. I am certain that most clubs put in that position would take the option, unless they did not want to.
We are obviously not aware of all circumstances surrounding the case and this my personal opinion only.
Hope we've got a game on August 2nd anyway.

Not resting at all - 5 injuries, 1 suspended & 1 working means the 1st team coach and 6 Youth team players involved today. Still creating a number of chances, just need to put one of them away now ! Sums it up when the only regular 1st team player in the back four today also goes off injured early in the game.

No disrespect, but we have had a dreadful time recently result-wise, we played saturday, monday, thursday, today - then tuesday, thursday and saturday again this week. We had five regular squad players out, started two that have been out for over two weeks and came to stag meadow as big underdogs but in the view of most people deserved the win today. The reality with this league is that player availability is often hit and miss but as a manager you have to get on with it and work with what you have on the day. As I said to their management after the game, Windsor deserve great credit for the way they have turned their season around and I am pleased for them, but today was a good quality game of football played on an excellent surface, so let's leave the bias out of the equation and accept today for what it was. I thought the game was played in a good spirit and there was no lack of quality or effort and, apart from the later - and slightly unfair on both sides - bookings the referee had a reasonably good game. Pretty much what we all look for in a game of football. We move on to another busy week when all of my squad will be tested to the limit with a series of games and the need to juggle their work around them, but we will hope to build on the positive aspects of today. We have, I must admit, put a 7 day approach in this evening for the pitch!

Not a great game at Walton Road today, but the better team won on the day, so no complaints from me. I was fortunate to manage Jack and Neerav at Egham and they are both top lads and they were big players for me at the time, so I'm pleased that they have gone back into management at at club where everyone thinks so highly of them. Lee also comes across as a really down to earth fella and a good manager, so together they look like forming a good management team. It may seem a weird response having lost, but sometimes it's good to be able to use this forum to give credit to people and these three certainly impress me. Obviously we were rubbish and all three goals were dreadful decisions by the officials plus we had 9 stone wall penalties turned down but, other than that, no complaints!

I thought I would answer a couple of points raised from Tuesday. Question as to whether or not Egham were worthy winners on the night - the answer is yes. We had an early chance but our youth team lad could not get over the ball and his header went a few feet wide. Egham pretty much bossed the next 30 minutes and to be fair were as good as anyone we have played in midfield and looked lively. They took the lead when a decent effort was saved by our keeper but he could not get it away from danger and Dale smashed home the rebound. I am not quite sure why TW seems to have a particular problem with our keeper, as he has kept more clean sheets than virtually every other keeper in the CCL this season, but it does seem a bit random. Anyway, the momentum switched a bit later in the half when their 11 - who had tormented our left back from the outset - fouled him in front of our dugout and for some reason the two of them confronted each other. We then saw what is the most blatant piece of cheating that I have seen since we came into the CCL when he suddenly clutched his face and threw himself to the floor, which certainly did receive some animated views from the dugout, the crowd and little support from his team-mates. The officials also saw the correct view of this and subsequently booked him and the game continued. For some reason he then moved to the left side and it was either a tactical decision or he perhaps wanted to avoid retribution. The truth is that my lad had got nowhere near him up until then so it seems unlikely that this would have happened. We did get some sort of foothold after then and were disappointed to concede right on the stroke of half time when poor defending let Dale in behind us and his drilled cross was converted by their young black striker - who impressed me all night with everything he did. However, the way the first half had gone I must say that a 2-0 deficit was acceptable.
Now, when we beat Egham the other day it appears they were crap - according to TW. They actually played quite well early on and missed their own sitter at 0-0, then we proceeded to take the chances we got and went into a 3-0 lead which ultimately made the game safe. We have a good side and play some nice football, but our passing was poor on Tuesday, so I could say we were crap. The truth is that the opposition forced this with the way they set themselves up and I would rather commend them than fall back on the old "we never turned up" rubbish. Both sides used the excellent pitch and tried to play football, but on the night they certainly dominated proceedings in the first half.
The second half was a different proposition and we pretty much had the majority of play. Borg made his customary couple of great saves and we ought to have pulled one back when he could only parry an effort to one of our lads who rushed his effort and put it wide. Funnily enough even good keepers can sometimes struggle to deal with certain shots and are in the lap of the gods with how things turn out. Egham were always a threat however, as we were clearly chasing the game.
One more incident soured the night when our 11, who had influenced much of the second half, was subject to a shocking tackle by an Egham lad and we certainly reacted to that - it really was a bad one and funnily enough came within a minute of me being aware of dialogue between Noad and another player about the problems he was causing. However, knowing the player who committed the foul there is no way it would have been premeditated and Luke was very apologetic after the game. The referee booked him and our lad was able to play on, so I am glad that a red was not shown - as it could have been - because it was certainly out of character for him.
So, two incidents I can recall that we reacted to and in both cases I feel a certain justification. One was cheating, the other reckless.
I agree that John is a quiet and thoughtful manager and I have been impressed with him over the 3 games we have had. Unfortunately, we didn't get to have a chat after the game, and I wouldn't even waste my time talking to Noad. I did speak with Steve Bennett and we had a sensible chat about things in general. We also spent quite some time in the Egham bar and left about 11.30, in my case talking about some of the old times with Jimmy and the lads and pretty much putting the world to rights.
It wasn't a bad game to be fair, I thought the officials were pretty good and very approachable, and I always enjoy going back to Egham as I have great memories of the club and learnt a great deal from various managers - John Hourd in particular - so win, lose or draw I always manage to get something positive from my visits.
And, yes, the family do ensure there is some representation in most areas around the ground, but they have put their hearts and souls into the club over many years and, despite some differences of opinion in the past, I do have the utmost respect for all of them.
Work problems have meant that my time in football has been curtailed for some time and I rarely post now - probably why I have utilise this time tonight - so I will leave these thoughts with you to digest.
But, as one manager was happy to tell me - "I am not saying that I am always right - I'm just never wrong"
Two games to go - 6 points available - end of season do after the Guildford game - then chill out time for a while.
Management changes?? - watch this space.
West Ham still to go up??
    Goodnight.
