HOT NEWS!! It has just been announced on our official website that the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium has been chosen, as one of the venues to host matches for the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) 2018 World Football Cup. This is a great honour for our Club, and our Board members are to be congratulated for all their hard work behind the scenes, and success in submitting a winning bid, after facing stiff competition from other clubs in the Greater London area. Well done all, and special thanks to newly elected Town Director Ram Ismail for leading our successful bid. Sure this prestigious competition will generate a lot of interest and support. For more information, and details of dates and matches, see Ken Brazier's article on the official website.
After last weekends resounding 1-5 victory at Wingate, that lifted us to 6th in the table, there is a good feeling of optimism around the club, as we look forward to welcoming Merstham to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium this Saturday, for another important Ryman Premier Division match. KO: 3.00pm. Our visitors are currently 22nd in the table, with a few games in hand on other basement sides, but have struggled on their travels, having only won one of 14 away matches played to date, an impressive 0-4 win at AFC Sudbury. Last season, their first in the Ryman Premier Division, the Moatsiders drew 2-2 with us at Donkey Lane, but we beat them 0-4 at Weldon Way. This season our away trip to Merstham was a much tighter affair, and we had to stage a dramatic comeback, from two goals down with ten minutes left, to draw 2-2 with late goals from Bobby Devyne and Ricky Gabriel. Town will approach Saturdays match in confident mood, following the demolition of Wingate, and the recent arrival of talented new signing Karl Oliyide, and will be looking to produce another top quality team performance to climb back into the play-off places. So, another exciting competitive match in prospect on a chilly afternoon. Keep warm, enjoy the match, and let's have plenty of loud vocal home support for Brad and the boys. Best of luck everyone. Bring it on! 'COME ON YOU TOWN'
Weather permitting, we look forward to welcoming West Sussex side Burgess Hill to The Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, for our next Ryman Premier Division fixture. KO: 3.00pm. This is the Hillians second season in the RPD, and it would be fair to say they are having a bit of a tough time. Last season they finished 21st in the table, one place above the drop zone, whilst at the moment they are 20th, with matches in hand over the basement clubs. They visit us on Saturday without a win in their last seven league matches. To date they have only achieved one away league win this season, last month at Staines when they came away with a 1-2 victory. But,as we all know, there are no easy fixtures in this league, and our previous matches with the Hillians have been very close affairs, with all three matches finishing 1-0 in favour of the home team. Town are on a great run of form, and having just climbed into the Ryman Premier Division play-off places, they will be looking to make their extra quality pay dividends, against stubborn opponents at Donkey Lane on Saturday. Brad and the boys deserve plenty of home support and encouragement. Let's hear it for our guys as they target another three points! Good luck everyone! 'COME ON YOU TOWN'
