Imagine a 3 legged sausage dog.

Each leg represents a section of the non-leagues..

Ryman/Isthmian

British Gas Southern League

Unibond

They link to the dogs belly, and "undercarriage", which can be seen as the Blue Square Conference (N+S)

The guts, is the Blue Square Conference Premier....

This feeds the lungs of the dog....the Leagues 1 + 2

The Neck, is the championship..sticking out hoping for glory !

and the Head is the Premiership..always sniffing for more money/dog food/other dogs bottoms..

The bumhole of the dog is Fulham FC

It is not a greasy pole, it's a short haired dog leg...

They are 1 promotion away from league 2
4 successive promotions will mean Premiership football

Can you compare the leagues to Americam football? Are the leagues like our conferences such as the Big Ten, The Big East, or the Atlantic Athletic conference or is more like the NCAA ratings of the college teams such as Division 1AA or Division 111?

the first 5 leagues in english football are non regional, and have a promotion/relegation system.

the premier league obviously only has relegation (3 go down)

the championship, next one down has 3 up,3 down (2 automatically go up and one through the play offs (for teams finishing 3-6th)

division 1 & 2 are the same ( with play offs at the end of season as above)

after league two is the conference national which has two up (only two go down from league two),one automatically and one from the play offs (2-5 placed teams)

After the conference national it gets regionalised to the conference north & conference south (two go up to the conference national from each league, one automatically and one from the play offs)

After that there are 3 league systems

Unibond(north)

BGB (midlands & s.west)

Ryman (south & south east)

Each of these leagues gives two teams to the conference north/south depending on where the teams fit in to ie north/south

After that there are many other leagues going further down like ryman one north & ryman one south

BGB Midlands 1 & bgb south west

Unibond 1 & 2

they keep going down like that until you get county leagues like the Essex senior league, kent league etc etc(bit like states of the usa!)

after that there are still more leagues, basically thousands of people play football every saturday and hundreds of thousands,if not millions watch the beautiful game
