The news from the "Windmill" last night that Jimmy has signed for Dag & Redbridge. He will allegedly get a £200 a week improved pay deal.

Ouch, if true that really will hurt. Although Jacko didn't reach the playing heights of the year before he is still the club captain and one of the most influential and respected players. According to the NPL he was also up the higher end of 'shots on target 'and 'assists'. As a versatile defensive wing back who also scored important goals he will be very difficult to replace. He also has a remarkable ability to recover from injuries caused by brutal tackles.

Oh dear, if he went it would be a disaster as Jimmy is Gravesend through and through..What has struck me though has been the inability of the management to get players tied down to contracts before the end of the season. Yes we were fighting against relegation but we could have possibly tried to get players signed up with a relegation clause linked in. Now we are in a situation where all our best players can up and leave. Also i know times are hard but why are we not signing up players for longer than 1y? We get continuity for the 42 game season but we then go back to being in the same problem next close season. Fingers crossed Jacko and the other "stars" stay otherwise we could really struggle next season.

Jacko epitomises the team spirit reflected by the players - with the likes of Burton and possibly others leaving prior to the new season - it will interesting to see if the team spirit and work ethic remains the same if and when new players are introduced.

For me, Jacksons main qualities are:

a) passing and vision

B) determination

c) experience - yes his still only mid-twenties I believe.

d) Versatility and his ability to recover from injuries quickly.

All in all, quite a loss. To be honest, I've never really understood why a League Club never picked him up - his performed consistantly over the years and has always been recognised as one of the top players outside the top flight of non-league football.

Will Jacko get the chance to play full-time football if he has gone to the Daggers? After they lost the playoff's I remember their manager going on record as saying he would like to move towards having a full time team.

I hope Jamie Carter and Robbie Grace are given a chance in pre-season - in the reserve games I have seen Grace has caught the eye on a few occasions. He seems to enjoy attacking players down the wing, has good ball control and could be a good replacement for Jacko - only trouble is I can't remember if he plays on the right or left wing?

I heard that Jacko was not making up his mind one way or the other until after he had spoken to Andy, which could not happen until after Saturday, as he has only just got back from the tour.

Jacko is a man with principles and he has said he wants to speak with Andy I just cannot see he would have already signed for someone else.

I hope like everyone else he signs for us, although Daggers were talking about full time I believe it was not for the whole squad, my thoughts if you are not full time you must be a bit player, I have no idea how being full-time would sit with his committment with the farm.

Anyway lets wait for the official version from the Club.

If Jacko stays and clocks up 500+ appearances I am sure that he would be a shoe in for greatest ever player, but if he leaves now would he keep his popularity?

He must hold the record for most " man of the match " awards...3 or 4 years ago he was the only decent player we had.

I hope he stays but if he does leave I hope it is on good terms with the club and the supporters, if ever a bloke deserved a decent testimonial its Jacko.

Quick question which probably none of us can answer bar Andy. The Nationwide league each season sees X number of players have their contracts terminated. How do we know what these players are like? I cant imagine we have the resources to go watching teams in division 2 and 3 for example.

Well a lot of the released players are out of a pay league so they wouldn't be worth watching.

However Andy watches a lot of matches, I've known days when he has been to three matches.

So I think the answer is a qualified yes. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I think as Andy said that Jimmy "had agreed" to sign and the fact Hill's still on holiday, DRFC are probably reluctant to make the announcement until their manager has everything signed, sealed and delivered.

We can but hope, but I think in vain. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
