Guys,
I have listed the various airports on the wigan travel page - the best bet is to charter a small plane - this is the cheapest option.
Blackpool do it for their away trips.
There is an airfield closer, but this does not have a license for after dusk flights, so is out.
The best choice is either Liverpool or Blackpool.
To be honest, I would forget scheduled flights.
I have many contacts in the travel business, as one of my clients is the official travel club for spursm and are used to flying spurs fans around the UK. A coach would pick the passengers up from Liverpool or Blackpool, and would return them after the game.
If people want, I can make enquiries, and find out costs etc...

Thanks for those prices.
My contact is working out prices.
There are a few hidden costs which are not mentioned on the prices given...
Airport tax of £10 per person and travel to/from Southend (maybe) and more importantly travel from Blackpool or Liverpool to/from Wigan.
I will have a firm price by the morning.
However it could only go ahead if we were to break even. It is either that or a 6am departure for Wigan, and then an immediate departure after the game for an post midnight return. A long day!

I (and about 15 others) would seriously consider that option. We've already started looking at economy flights to Manchester, if someone from the Travel Club would make some serious enquiries I reckon it could be a winner. The thought of sitting on a coach for 6 hours is already doing my head in........especially if it ended up in the same condition as the poor old Stafford Rangers coach after Saturdays game !!!!
Be good if someone could progress this one, and we didn't just talk about it.

i fancy some of this as well..i dont think i can handle 10+ hours on the road (and thats if nothing goes wrong traffic wise).. i've looked everywhere for scheduled flights from southend stanstead and even gatwick and found nothing apart from one to manchester via amsterdam (now that has got potential shocked.gif" border="0 ).. i've sent out a few e mails to various places just to see if its remotley on the cards..if i get back anything better than a laugh in the face i'll let you know cheers smile.gif" border="0

I quite enjoy the coach journey's, the anticipation of the match and the celebration on the way back (fingers crossed.) On the way to the FGR final we had ballons darting about the coach, everyone having a laugh. Oh well, you take the high road and I'll take the low road and you'll get to Wigan before me!

You are a silly lot down Canvey way. If you don't want to go by coach why oh why dont you just get a boat from the end of Southend Pier to the end of Wigan Pier. It can't be a long walk then to the ground.

By the way I hope our 12 seater bus is going to be o.k. come Saturday when we make the trip abroad to Canvey and try and 'do a runner' with the points!!!!

You're bringing 12? My information was wrong as I heard you'd only got 9 with permission to be out at the same time.
Your away support has benefitted following your recent success ;-) Keep it up and enjoy the game. You will be made very welcome at Park Lane, just like we are always welcome when we come to your place for a beer and three points (or cup victory).
Lots of banter, lots of singing and lots of goals. That's what makes footy at this level so enjoyable.
Merv
