HORNCHURCH 1 CHESHUNT 0

There were very few scoring chances in the first half. The visitors Cheshunt had the better of the territorial play, but created few opening. Their only shot on target was well saved by Michael Bowditch. The second half was far more open, and with Urchins kicking towards the restaurant end of the ground they could have taken the lead when a long free kick by Jonathan Spencer found Ronsard Kehi, whose header was tipped around the post by Christian Beaupierre for a corner. Spencer was positioned perfectly at the far post for the corner but his shot was deflected out for another corner by Christopher Webb. Hornchurch continued to press and a corner from Jack Webster swerved close to goal, whilst Joe Bouchard almost set up Pascal Maillard in front of goal. Webster went close with a first time shot that went narrowly over the bar, and with Hornchurch very much in command, they were awarded a free kick 30 yards out. PAUL SHAVE surprised the visiting defence by taking the kick quickly and firing the ball into an empty net, with the wall still forming up.

Maillard played a good pass through to Webster, and his shot was well saved by Beaupierre, but Cheshunt came back into the game as an attacking force, with Bowditch making three very good saves to keep the ball out. Urchins were reduced to ten players due to injury, but almost scored in spectacular fashion when Jack Joy took a free kick ten yards inside his own half, and only a very alert Beaupierre prevented the ball from entering the net with a spectacular dive to tip the ball over the bar.
