Maginificent Eight

Great, great performance from our magnificent nine and then eight.

Probably the least said about the two early sending off's the better.

I honestly could not see what happended with Skins so will not pass any judgement on that as yet.

To other other eight. you were wonderful.

Only a very dodgy penalty finally broke us down.Unless you watched you will not believe that we played all the football, and has some cracking chances and a deal of bad luck around the box.

New boy Walsh, got stuck in alongside all the others.

Anyone who thinks our players are not playing for the shirt really want to think again.

Right from Shears ( watch out Wilko) through to super Matt Lee they played with tremendous courage, skill and enthusiasm.

Rob Howarth literally ran himself into the ground, Rob Owen must have practically run the distance from Gsend to Scarborough.

Yes we lost and those who did not finish the game must reflect on how they let the team down. with eleven men, well who can say.

Yes we lost the match, but gained everyones respect.

Well done lads, I was proud to be part of the day.

I agree Jessica. The Magnificent Eight were truly magnificent but I take my hat off to the five players who played the whole 90 minutes, especially Shears and Rob Howarth who gave me an "I LOVE being at this club" interview after the game.

The fans were a credit to the club too.

You might like to know that up in the press box they were(to use an Eric Hall-ism) monster impressed with our lads and were particularly full of praise for Andy. As the guy who wrote the report in the Non League paper said: "Andy Ford - top bloke" echoed by Russell Slade on BBC Radio York after the game.

Anyone know why Slade wasn't on the bench? You could probably have him there 41 games out of42 and not be needed, and the one time he's not there, you get your keeper sent off!!

I see Keith Scott has now left Dagenham and signed for... Windsor & Eton - looks like these old hasbeens like him and Patmore were better left alone!

Sod's law it appears. According to Andy in his post match interview with me on Radio Kent, Jake got injured in a youth game on Thursday but did not tell Andy he "wasn't up to travelling" until Friday night, too late to line up a replacement. We had no choice to go without a sub goalkeeper as Wilko only had his first training session last week and will hopefully make his return in the Capital League game vs Dagenham on Wednesday.

Having just watched the highlights on Tffc, I have to say that McKimm's sending off looks very harsh indeed. Initial reports said that it was a two footed tackle, but in fact there was no contact between Macca's feet and the opponent.

Macca did turn his back on the guy who went into him and then fell as if he were poleaxed.

I've shown the clip to two non Gravesend fans in the office who both said a yellow at worst, but certainly not a red.

Gravesend aren't great but they have fighting spirit in abundance (no pun intended about having three men sent off!!), so I think the bottom three will be:

Farnborough, Margate and either Tamworth or Leigh.

A quotation from confguide.com, written by a scarborough fan. Maybe that says something to all the supporters who said we lack passion!

Fighting spirit, you bet your ass.

Splendid picture on the back page of the NLP of Skins taking Andy's instructions to "get out there and grab the game by the throat" a little too literally - and on some dude at least 23" taller than him. And there in the background, The Duke making Arnie S look like a choirboy. Hope the Scarborough guy pretending to sqaure up to him had a particular tight pair of jocks on under his shorts.

Apologies to anyone misinterpreting this as my condoning "foul play," or making "apologies" for justified sendings off. I just appreciate the combative spirit, that's all - and we're going to need that in abundance this season. No room for faint hearts, on the pitch, bench or terraces.

I must agree having seen it..was clumsy but probably only a booking.
Couldn't make out what happened with Skins, but from the picture on the NLP his red was probably justified!

I was going to write something very similar on here Dave! Macca should never have been sent off for that! At worst it was petty, but sending off no way. Skins was 6 of one and half a dozen etc… certainly unfair to send him off. No defending O’reilly though who could’ve at least stayed on his feet!! Up the fleet full of confidence for Saturday lets get back on track and get as many down there as possible, im bringing 5 ‘newbys’ down there!
