Westlands

Recommended Posts

Had a phone call from the local Indian restaurant earlier, asking if I could take 4 customers home. When they got in the motor they saw my AFC Hornchurch air freshener and remarked about it and remarked about the good vibes coming out from the club within the last couple of years, they then told me that two of them worked for the council and the other two were contractors for the council. The subject matter then changed slightly when the subject of Romford Fc and in particular Westlands came up and I asked them what the latest is with this venture. They proceeded to tell me that certain council members are becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of movement on the project, among other things was the fact that the club are apparantly allowed to use some of the facilities there already, such as pitches for youth football and out buildings (I would presume for changing rooms) but so far have only used these facilities a handful of times, when by now they were expected to have near enough full use of the site. They did obviously point out that due to the financial climate that it can't be easy but it appeared very slow. One even remarked that the land could be used by now for other things, not left to rot.

I know some Romford fans may well accuse me of making up such stories as per usual but if they took their heads out the sand and read between the lines it mat just give them a wake up call.

One of the chaps has booked me for an airport run for his holidays but obviously will remain nameless due to his position and comments, but a quick look on the council website confirmed who he was and let's hope I get a nice big tip for the airport run, just like I got tonight!!

If fairness I think that some have them have started to 'smell the coffee'' hence olive branches from some on here who it would appear from their site believe a ground share is required with us. The costs involved to build a new stadium appear unreachable and they have mooted about a scaled down version of nirvana. Next it will be requests for any spare jumpers to be donated :disbelief:

Think the last sentence about the nice big tip from a council employee was the giveaway Rob. I reckon you have found a way to break into what we thought was our impenetrable highly secure forum and have been reading some of my posts. You really are a very naughty boy.

The nice big tip I was referring to was the heads up regarding westlands, not the measly £1 tip I got for a £35 fare lol.

As for going on your forum,I can access that when I want, although I haven't checked it for over a month now, simply because the last time I did I saw nothing of interest.Obviously checking this morning since your post,it seems that at least you have some sort of reality check regarding this, but I can assure you that 2 of the 4 gentlemen in that party last night were who they said they were. But as I said, you will probably all bury you're heads in the sand as usual and deny such conversations took place, when in fact by telling you,I am probably doing you more of a favour than I should bother to.

The £35 fare helps me make an educated guess who you may have had in your taxi.

Your right about one thing, I have been banging on about a reality check for over a year now, so you probably have quite a bit of researching to do if you really are that interested.

This new ground for Romord was alwys going to be a pipe dream. Seems to take years for them just to get a few fence panels. The cash flow figures they showed the council must be good for a laugh to read now !! cheesy%20(2).gif

It was always going to be difficult for Romford to get the funding together unless someone with money came in to finance the deal - unlikely in the current climate.

Shame, but that's life I'm afraid.

Haven't we been down the path with a groudshare before, the issue being both Hx and the athletics club already being at Bridge Avenue?

To be fair not too many years ago money men were throwing cash about at clubs like Hornchurch, Grays, Concord and even Romford to a lesser extent. By the time we were offered Westlands by the LBH, and got planning consent we found ourselves in a recession, and all the money men seemed to have disappeared.

Ilford and Waltham Forest both share Cricklefields with an athletics club and the Rymans never objected to that particular arrangement so I would think it wouldn't be to much of a problem, and in my opinion it would be of benefit to both clubs as the running costs would be halved, and if one of the clubs went pear shaped again LBH would be obliged to keep the stadium open, and probably spend some money on improvements when the financial situation improves.

I don't believe an athletics club uses cricklefields any more, certainly didn't see many athletic facilities last time I was there

Went there three times last season and there was quite a lot of new equipment on show, and there's definitely still athletics there. IMO by far the worse ground in the Rymans.

I certainly don't want another club to share with. Me being cynical but it just seems funny that some people only resurrect the idea of a ground share when their own project seems to have stalled? Oops must be careful or we will have another letter winging its way to the Recorder
