OK, another one for Halifax Lass

A Yorkshire hill farmer is tending his flock when a Range Rover arrives up the track. The driver announces that he wants a sheep to roast for a party.

 

"How about a small wager?" the visitor proposes. "If I guess the exact size of your flock, you give me the sheep of my choice". The farmer accepts but the visitor barely pauses before announcing "Four hundred & thirty two sheep".

 

The farmer whistles up his sheepdog and herds the sheep into a pen. He counts the last one in. 432. "Fair enough" he says "Choose your sheep".

 

Just as the visitor is about to leave with his trophy the farmer proposes a bet of his own. "I bet I can guess where you live and what job you do". The visitor accepts and without hesitation. The farmer says "You usually live in Brussels. You work for the European Commission's Agriculture Directorate".

 

The visitor is stunned and asks the farmer how he made such an accurate guess.

 

"Well" said the Farmer, "Who but a Eurocrat would know the exact number of sheep in my flock? And who else, given 432 sheep to choose from, would take the dog?"
