The Guernsey Thread

Guernsey my friend are a very professional outfit, they will fly in Friday night, stay at a Hotel, then be coached to the ground, with ample time too warm up.By having a 1 pm K.O.They will be able to fly back Saturday, thus saving another overnight stay.In reverse the C.C.L. sides will have to fly out Saturday morning, play the game, miss the flight home, and stay at a hotel, flying home Sunday.Yes the players can have a night out in Guernsey, and good luck to them, but hardly professional. The Knapmeister has already said on another thread that they will fly out Friday,as they are a well run outfit.and have an extra night in Guernsey, which they will have to fund. The cost of an extra nights stay would be by my estimation £1000 minimum, small change to Guernsey F.C.,But not to C.C.L.Clubs.The posters on here are throwing up red herrings, why are they thanking Horley, they will not be parking their cars there. Why have they said they want an early K.O.so they can stay longer at Clubs to socialise, well kick off at 3 pm and stay till 10pm thats real socialising in Smudge's eyes. But if they did that would mean another overnight stay in a hotel costing them £1000's.

But clubs going over there don't have to stay for two nights if they don't want to.

They can fly out Friday, be ferried to the hotel, be ferried to the ground, play at 1pm and get a flight home the same night.

Or they can fly out Saturday morning, be ferried etc etc, kick off at 3pm, stay over night and come back on Sunday.

It's their choice.

Likewise, it's the clubs choice if they want to kick off at 1pm when they play Guernsey over here. Everyone's looking at ways of getting more punters in. Colliers Wood have had some success with their Friday night games. Games at 1pm on a Saturday mean people can catch two local games in a day. Groundhoppers love that sort of thing as well as casual punters. I've been to two or even three games on bank holidays in different leagues at 11.30am, 3pm and 7.45pm.

I'd even go so far as to say clubs may want to look at 12.30pm kick offs for when they play Guernsey to give punters a greater chance of getting somewhere else for 3pm.

Just a small correction for you Smudger. I never said we would be staying Sturday night. We will be returning on Saturday evening after the game.

Why just Guernsey though, let all Clubs do it,Camberley could kick off 12.30pm,then Cove at 3pm.Massive crowds then.

I agree. Apart from the massive crowds bit.

The League has shown it's willing to be flexible on kick off times, some of the clubs (CWU and RPV) have embraced Friday evening games, most of the others haven't. They'll all have their own reasons why.

Apologies Knapmeister,it was Trentender who stated that the Club were looking into the possibility of staying 1 extra night, was this ruled out on cost.So your K.O. in Guernsey will be 1 pm,so as you can make flight back I presume.

Yeah something I could never understand C.W.U and R.P.V both playing on Wednesday night. So the promise of night on the town for players, will hit the buffers for sure.

More Semi Professional I would say........oh hang on, that would be right!!

As Daniel points out above, the 1pm KO at Eversley allows for Guernsey to fly in and out on the same day Smudge. You really do appear to have a bit of an issue with the travel arrangements though.....and you're not even the one travelling!

Smudge your continued ups and downs regarding GFC are driving me mad. Surely it is up to each individual club to make their own travel arrangements to suite their players etc. If GFC decide to come over the night before, have time for warm ups etc it is up to them. We are thanking Horley because they are allowing the CCL clubs to park there when they fly from Gatwick, what is the problem with that???? I am sure that GFC would rather spend their cash in the CCL bars than using it for another nights accomodation so what is the problem with an early kick off??? As keeps being pointed out Clubs are only going to have to travel to Guernsey once a season but Guernsey could have to travel to the UK around 20 times, please keep it real Smudge, this is not all advantage GFC in fact it will be one heck of a lot harder for GFC to succeed than many other sides

Can I suggest we all let the season start first before we start making assumptions, there are bound to be a few teething problems there were when AFC came into this league, the big difference was AFC came straight into the CCL premier and it was better equipped to accomodate as the players were of the same ilk, some of the teams players in Div 1 wont make a 1 o'clock kick off because what I have seen is players who are as good as CCL prem players but don't have the same commitment,I can't imagine to many managers having a lot of success in telling there players not to go out on a friday night because they have an early kick off on the Saturday, get real the kick off time should be left at 3.00 IMO.

If the players aren't professional enough to have an early night before what will be a big game then why should GFC Suffer??

I assume that at your level that admission fees are charged for spectators,if so then those spectators should pay the charge with the knowledge that the players will give their all,if it means the poor players miss out on 1 Friday night with their mates then so be it.Why does everything in this country come down to whether someone can go out on the p1ss or not

Exactly that EU these players are not professional and the team that won the CCL Div1 had to pay to play, some of the players may get a little money but not many probably 90 per cent get nothing.

E.U. Talking of supporters they would have to fly right, well by Aurigny's Website the cost to fly out to Guernsey on the 6th August,11.50 flight from Gatwick is advertised as £86,the return flight leaving at 18.00 from Guernsey, wait for it £149.00,total cost = £235.00,an increase from last week of £79.00,so the only way a supporter can save money is by buying a return flight cost £204,still leaving them out of pocket by £48.Dont think many C.C.L. FANS will be going do you, what if the game is postponed, good money down the drain. The same scenario works the other way as regards Guernsey Supporters,so not many of them will travel either.

Talking about home supporters in all honesty. As they seem to be the ones who would be frustrated by their players playing with hangovers!!

While the league is part of the pyramid structure, whether or not a player has sufficiently recovered from the night before should not be an issue. It's once a season for the players, not every week

Booking in advance is always going to be cheaper. I see Sunday morning flights back are only £25 for late August onwards. 7am though! :97:

It does say you can change flight details so I suppose if a game gets postponed you could possibly change your flight to another one, that's assuming it gets postponed far enough in advance of course!

Guernsey people have always to pay these fares if we want to go anywhere. If we want to go on holiday we have to also pay to get to Gatwick, overnight hotels etc. We are used to it and make sure we book well in advance as we all know that the earlier you book with these airlines - the cheaper it is

We will be organised and ready to travel wait and see. I know of 3 pubs that are planning coaches on the ferry for the away games so that will be at least around 100 people coming from the island in that way. There will also be others who will fly as they do every weekend to watch Liverpool, Spurs, Man Utd etc, season ticket holders who do not worry about the cost of the flights but just go. On the ferry from Poole or Weymouth you can travel as a foot passenger for the day for £30 and that includes lunch in the Island, just shop around and be organised. Everything is possible It just depends how important you take your football and this is a huge thing to Guernsey

I know of 3 pubs that have closed down over here this week,as for getting 33 customers in each of them, those days went a long time ago.As for Poole and Weymouth,is that close to C.C.L. Grounds.Nice to see your all loaded in Guernsey, money no object attitude.Would be more impressed if they went to watch the lesser Football League Teams, but as they say Money goes to Money.
