i think we need a new striker

Lots and lots of very valid points on here and I'd just like to add another...

Whilst it's not necessarily a bad thing all the time, I have noticed over these past two seasons how negative Canvey's style of football has become since Glen Alzapeidi arrived. With Batchy you got flowing attacking football, where the ball was passed around on the floor and moved from back to front with short, quick passing and running into space and onto through balls. These past two seasons we have been playing too much long ball, which is wasteful for us as none of our forwards can win a header and second balls are too often picked up by the opposition who then hit us on the break, putting the advancing midfielders on the back foot.

I've noticed we've gone back to the bad habit of passing the ball around on the edge of the opposition penalty area rather than attempt to split the defence and find a one-on-one through ball. We do try the one-on-ones but they're over the top and I refer back to not winning balls in the air.

Also, I don't recall ever seeing Batch play to defend a 1-0 lead for 45 minutes against lower league opposition. I fully expect to see it against Stortford but wouldn't want to see it when we're playing Aveley again in the League Cup. John accepted the fact that he needed help and Ryman Premier experience in the dugout by his side, but I don't think we're getting the best out of them both currently whilst their styles of football conflict.

I'm not blaming last night's performance on any one aspect, but like has been said previous a combination of negative football, lack of enthusiasm, playing players that don't warrant a start and generally not using all the resources available to you is not going to produce great results.

missing easterford wasnt the reason we lost last night and as for ellis i hope he gets loads of goals wherever he is hes a great lad, its difficult reading these posts when we are 4th from top but that has been pure luck we could be bottom, i have been watching canvey for 15 years and the football so far this season has been pathetic i think the players were happy to get another years contract and know the manager will pick them and are on easy street as someone said gonnela and alaile the only 2 putting it in and they are new and used now and again and will probably go if not used, i dont now how the heirachy works at the club i just love canvey pays me money and goes home but i think batch needs to go as manager i know hes canvey through and through but does anyone at the club tell him anything or is he too high up at the club i think hes taken it as far as he can and its time for someone younger and answerable to the club and will pick the best team and not his mates and will drop and pick players on performance, there just seems the kingy factor about him he will do what he likes, as for healsy i like his football brain but the legs are gone when he was in the ESL he was young and scored loads at that level but he cant make the runs at this level but his brain keeps him going, leon has been a different player since his injury, jason will get goals but is injury prone, rhodsey needs a kick up the [****!!****] and maybe king is tired being midfield and top striker the defence looks sound but if youre not scoring it will put pressure on them, maybe someone on here closer to the club will tell me if im right or wrong but as i see it the management and players seem stagnant and tell batchy the striker is the elephant in the room and it was there last season through the summer and now

I certainly wouldn't be calling for the managers head this early on in the season - we finished 1 point away from the play-offs last season, and are not exactly doing badly point-wise this season. We're far from a crisis and certainly shouldn't be looking to sack a manager that's won 6 out of 9 so far! However, I certainly think there needs to be some accountability at the top of the club - having your manager on the board certainly isn't ideal!

Performance, style and watchability don't win points, results do.

From the horse's mouth of one of your players ''We've been playing sh** but nicking results'' - What more do you want a team to do guys?

We went to Bury last night, played them off the park, attacking, attractive football, but left with feck all. What would you rather?

Healsey would be, and is an asset to any club at this level. If any of you are expecting him to go on mazy runs, work the channels and do doggies for 90 minutes you're deluded. But his link up play, hold up play, first touch and more importantly experience and finishing can't be questioned.

As for some fans calling for your gaffer's head already, as much as I would chuckle at some sort of nuclear fall-out - that's just plain ludicrous.

Any calls for Batchy's head are crazy in my opinion, as Charlie says, we were 1 point from the playoffs last season. The performances haven't been good this season as we've all agreed, but we're 9 games into a 42 games season. Also, as much as I've just criticised a few players on Tuesday night - they haven't become bad players, they're just out of form or short of fitness in my opinion. People like Alex Rhodes are obviously class, but just in a rut at the moment. He'll get over it and be as good as always I'm sure, we just have to be patient.

Here's a question for you......as Canvey fans, do we take more pleasure in talking about what we do badly as opposed to what we do well? Are we all doom & gloom merchants? I see & hear some fans at games that never shout a word of positivity, yet are the first ones to start shouting when things are going badly. Have we been so spoilt during the King period that we're generally an ungrateful bunch to whom nothing short of winning every match playing like Brazil will be good enough for us?

Well said GB, lets not hit the panic buttons just yet, this is a good thread with some very good points by most posters! We have seen this coming and hopefully the defeat to Davely will be the eye opener that we needed and come at a time in the season where we can put things right. Its been obvious since the moment Rowe left what was needed, it was talked about on numerous occasions last season but these type of players dont just grow on trees, they are footballs most precious product and every team wants and needs this player! The Ellis situation could well come back and haunt us but its been done and we can only wish him well and thank him for his efforts during his spell at Canvey. What we dont want to do on here and any other public forum to be fair is attack our team and make personal comments, we should all rally together and be that fantastic 12th man that right now is needed as much now as it has for as long as I can remember!!! Be constructive by all means but stay united and fight the opposition and NOT each other, we are after all THE MIGHTY YELLOW ARMY and we are the fans of CANVEY FC!!!! Through thick and thin, better and worse and all that, we are now needed by the Club, lets show this league exactly what we are made of!!!

Glenn, The last bit is very much key !

The only bit i would agree with out of everything i have read is that there is no way a manager should be a Director of any club !

But i do appreciate what John has done for CIFC, So it is a difficult situation.

Have we been so spoilt during the King period that we're generally an ungrateful bunch to whom nothing short of winning every match playing like Brazil will be good enough for us?

It's that Jekyll & Hyde performance against lower league opposition that is frustrating for everyone. Before Tuesday night Aveley hadn't won a game so far.

Playing "poorly" to grind out a result against decent opposition we can all take. Playing well and losing to the better side we accept, but gifting a result to a side who hasn't won so far in eight games by not "showing up" really gets people's backs up.

I wouldn't say we're an ungrateful bunch because had it not been for the majority of people who go to these games, the Club would have folded after King left. I just think sometimes there is too much a difference between what we can see our team do and what they actually do, do and you're left with more questions than answers, I.E. Why can we play so well against our fellow playoff contenders one week, then sink so low that we play worse than those who occupy the relegation zone?

Isn't that one of footballs biggest conundrums?? And its something that we have been guilty of more often than not lately!!!

We all get frustrated, but I personally struggle with people who are happy to lay on the blame and criticism but seem uninterested to give out the praise and positivity when we do well.

We lost to Aveley who hadn't won in 8 matches and we've had a very long and interesting thread develop (which has been very refreshing I must say!)

We beat a Wingate side who hadn't been beaten since March and there were 4 posts!

Is this negative outlook a representation of football fans in general or something specific to CIFC?

Everyone is a football manager in their own mind. The trouble is people like to express how they would've done things better when things go wrong and accept a victory as the norm when things go right so keep quiet.

That is the World of football for everyone not just CIFC, (perhaps England fans are the biggest culprits in this situation).

Well said TGE, I think it is normal for all football fans to forget to give praise when the team is doing well, but criticise when teams have a dip in form. we should not forget that we have a 100% record away from home this season and these results have been good. If we haven't played well it has not been our fault that home teams haven't beaten us. It has for the last couple of seasons been a problem when we are home, I don't know why. I also don't think that it matters whether John is on the board or not, if he felt he couldn't do the job as manager he would step down regardless. He shares a passion for the club like many of us supporters. Lets make sure we get behind the team on Saturday and get that win that would give us a boost before that very tough game at Lowestoft.

Lets face it it could be worse, we could be Concord supporters!!!!!

Come on you YELLOWS

I think this brings things back to reality for us all. No matter how bad things are, we can always think back to that point.
