Midweek CCL Action 29th Apr - 3rd May

Recommended Posts

The combined counties premier is a pathetic league if no one can go down or come up. What's the point. I sincerely hope that there are changes.Further if Guernsey remain at this level, they need to improve their communication as regards an unplayable pitch as

it is unreasonable for clubs at this level to chase over to Guernsey only to return with out having played a match.

Frimley won 3-2 at Epsom Athletic. Need Westfield to win on Saturday to make it winner takes all match next Tuesday night. Pressure on Westfield Saturday, as anything else hands the title to Frimley without them kicking a ball.

Edit - looking at the table, Frimley are on 77 points and Westfield can get to 78 with two wins. However, if Westfield didn't win on Saturday and then beat Frimley next Tuesday in theory Mole Valley could still get to 77 points if they win all their remaining games. Frimley have a far superior goal difference at the moment though. May all be academic anyway if Mole Valley don't win their games on Saturday & Monday.

FT Epsom 2 Frimley Green 3. A real nail biter of a game with both teams giving it their all. Frimley pressed early but were frustrated by some superb saves by the Epsom keeper. Norman made a good one on one save in the Frimley goal to deny Epsom an early lead. Frimley scored late in the first half with a tap in at the far post. Epsom came straight back and despite a good block from Norman in the Frimley goal the ball rebounded out and hit a player putting the ball back towards the goal and trickling in off after hitting the far post. Epsom really had their heads up from the off in the second half and were rewarded with a classy goal from a corner. The scorer made a run from the semi circle and met with the ball and volleyed straight into the goal. Frimley then went down to ten men after a bit of handbags on the right wing. It is a shame their is no action replay as the officials got it totally wrong and sent off a player who was twenty yards away from the incident. Despite both sides telling the ref and the linesman they had the wrong man they still gave a red card. I hope the player sent off will appeal as he was nowhere near the incident and was wrongly penalised.

Frimley then stepped up a gear and with ten men really put the pressure on and were rewarded with a good equaliser with a stunning strike into the near post. Frimley kept pushing and scored a third which is how it finished. It was a physical game with both sides wanting the win and Epsom took them all the way. Well done to both sides for an entertaining and nailbiting end to the season.

It is for Epsom, their last game tonight. Point taken though, next Tuesday is going to be a cracker at Westfield unless they slip up at the weekend.

Apart from the game at Sheerwater next Wednesday, according to the unofficial fixture site.

Also, according to that site they have South Park playing Monday, Tuesday and Thursday next week with the cup final on Friday! Is that right?

My apologies, I misread their program tonight, it says it is their last home match of the season, not their last match. I am just off to give myself a telling off lol

I think although not 100% sure you can appeal mistaken identity but would presume, although again not sure, that they will have to say who it was.  I think :)

Krooner, we don't know who it was. He was sent off for pushing, second yellow. It was hand bags with lots of players involved. The only one that wasn't was Girlo.

Well that could work both ways couldn't it? GFC got to Badshot only for the game to be called off by the referee late in the day. On the two occasions a team has got to the island and the match called off, it was down to heavy rain falling, how can anyone allow for that?

You used to be able to say "...it wasn't Player A, it was Player B..." and the punishment was 'transferred', but cases of mistaken identity can now only be appealed with video evidence,

Valley 4-0 AFC Croydon Athletic

Awful first half, from both sides, you would have thought it was a run of the mill end of season game, and not one between one team chasing promotion and another building up for a cup final. Only point of note was a good save low down by our keeper from Croydon's Danny Penfold.

Second half from us was much much better. Took the lead on 54 when Marvin Roberts came from behind the back line to fire home (Pagey and one other were offside but neither went for the ball). Were fairly comfortable bar a big goalmouth scramble from a Croydon corner, but sealed the win with 10 to go when Pagey twisted the Croydon backline before firing home.

Goals from substitutes Jayde Spence and Richard Smith were the icing on the cake.

A word on the officials, referee Steve Earl, and assistants Rachel Marlow and David Lawton - excellent throughout.

Yes it is Trevor.  The bulletin this week advised South Park v Sandhurst is moved from this Saturday so it is very likely to be a weakened South Park side that meet Sandhurst, as I'd be surprised if they put the same eleven in the field for a cup final that could also go to extra time 24 hours later.

Think there may have been some extra comments if the game had a bearing on relegation issues?
