FF News
Ramsbottom United goalkeeper and captain Grant Shenton made his two-hundredth startfor the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division club on Monday night. The 24-year-old reached the milestone in the 2-1 Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy reverse at Atherton Collieries in his fifth campaign with the Rams. The popular stopper, who took over the captain's armband ahead of the club's first season in the Premier Division, arrived at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium from FC United of Manchester. Shenton became the fourth player in the semi-professional era at the club to reach a double century of appearances by following in the footsteps of John Blackley, Joel Pilkington and Phil Dean. Joint-manager Anthony Johnson hailed the stalwart after the cup clash at Alder House. Johnson said: "For me, he is the best keeper in non-league football. Not many keepers at 23 years of age have played two hundred first-team games and won two promotions as well as being included in the league team of the year. "He has been an outstanding member of our squad for the last five seasons and for him to reach two hundred starts with us is testimony to just how highly he is regarded."
